I will love you till the end of time
I would wait a million years
Promise you'll remember that you're mine
Baby can you see through the tears?

The air was chilly today. It was autumn and winter was coming, though it was getting pretty cold rather early. The ground was frozen; at least it felt like it. What used to be green grass was now looking white and green with that frost covering it. The palomino mare bent her head down and her forelock fell over her eye. She sniffed the grass and when her breath hit the ground few frost flakes melted. A smile crossed the mare’s lips as she raised her head again. It had been time to come here to find a suitable stallion. She had to forget her past, she knew that she might not find a mate again but she would have to accept it. The thing she needed now was safety and protection.

Her dark brown eyes searched the place, she wanted to get this over with quickly but she didn’t want to make a wrong decision. She hoped that only one or two stallion would approach. It would make her shy and uncomfortable to have so many strangers around her. But she would have to get over her fear just this one day she was hoping to spend here. Just by looking around she could see if mares had been here for long or not. They looked sad, a little skinny seeing as there wasn’t much to eat here. Kalypso would love to go to them and brighten their day but her shyness would take over her and would end up making their day … just the same.

Kalypso kept on walking; she walked past few mares and stallions. It was early and the sun would soon rise. She could see it was close. Maybe the place was going to get more crowded once the sun rose but right now it was quite, only few horses having conversations, starting early. The palomino walked towards a small stream. It looked like it was frozen; she used her hoof to break the ice on the surface and under the ice cold water was running. She bent her head and slowly drank from the stream, the water was ice cold. Maybe a little too cold but it was okay.

When the Gypsy Vanner mare had enough of the cold water she decided to find a spot where she could wait for stallions to approach her. She had seen few mares coming and stopping on spots and soon stallions came to them. Kalypso was here for the first time and just had to copy what other mares were doing. She walked a little away from the stream; she stopped after few steps and looked around. This place looked rather nice. Now it was just waiting

The stallion was in a cheery mood lately, recently he had claimed his first mare; Sabina. She was a beauty and he was quite happy that Sabina accepted his claim upon her. Yet, he hadn’t been home in about two weeks now, the dappled buckskin stallion wasn’t sure if Sabina had gotten to Imperial Point safely, a pretty poor decision made by himself, though he assumed she was a smart mare from what he could tell in the common grounds and could navigate her way there easily, since it wasn’t so far from these grounds. Nevertheless, the stallion would still worry about her, it being his first mare, it was only in his nature to. Mairon wondered if she would have been lonely there so his only instinct was to try and get hold of another mare for himself and Sabina. Mairon was smart and knew how hormonal mares can get, the stallion having quite a bit of experience in that line, but never getting himself too involved with them to create a herd up until now.

The stallion was knew these common grounds with his eyes closed, he had been here for a while now and to be honest he had gotten quite sick of it, he never gave up though, Mairon was never the type to just give up. He was feeling pretty confident himself after his first claim, now knowing that mares would be interested in him and trust him enough to provide for them. Whilst consumed by his thoughts, he had failed to notice the sudden change in these grounds; weather wise. The ground appeared to be frosted, his instant thoughts were, winter was close by. What used to be somewhat green, the grass seemed to have a pale hue of white frosting over them, he had never spent a Winter in Kormada so the stallion was intrigued for the slightest moment.

Whilst looking at the slight changes in these grounds, his eyes briefly went over a draft looking mare, she appeared to be by herself from what the stallion could tell by a fair distance. Though he couldn’t quite tell if she was alone or not since it was the early hours of the morning, now being sleep deprived, his vision wasn’t the best being in this type of condition. Mairon was now at a stance, watching over the mare’s actions, he watched as the draft creamy mare took a few sips from the stream and then moving a few steps away to find a decent spot to stand, waiting for company of a stallion.

Standing proud and confident, he snorted and tossed his head before walking off in her direction. Folding his strong neck over his chest, he walked, flicking his black luscious tail locks every now and then. Mairon watched the draft mare wait nervously in her spot, it must be her first time in these grounds, were his first thoughts about her. The mare’s height was yet again, slightly shorter than he was, which would probably play to his advantage.

Just as he was a few steps away from the draft creamy mare, he came to halt yet again. He assumed the draft would have noticed his approach by now, clearing his throat the stallion spoke, “morning miss, name’s Mairon. You wouldn’t mind my company would you?” he spoke fluently and soft towards her, hoping this would also play in his favour, the stallion was a charmer, that was for sure. It was silent and he waited for her to reply to his question or maybe another stallion would approach.

Anwyl
take it or leave it, i'll show you the ropes
Off on the quiet edges of the Homeless Grounds, Anwyl was waking up ever so slowly. He blinked sleepily at the world around him, the other still sleeping horses dark blurs as his eyes adjusted. He shook his head, struggling to wake himself up. He had plans for the day, and wanted to make the best of them. The gray stallion had come down from Arctic Shrine and had slept overnight in the Homeless Grounds in order to get the earliest start he could. He wanted to find another mare for his tiny herd, and didn't want to go home empty handed. His body, though, was refusing to cooperate this early in the morning. He just couldn't work up the energy he needed to make his way to the more crowded areas. He sighed, knowing he'd be more awake once the sun came up, but he wanted to get going now. So, after a quick stretch and a deep breath, he started to trot towards the small crowds of mares and stallions. He was clumsy in his movements, his legs tingling uncomfortably as the blood began to flow back into them. His mind was still dogged by sleep, and it was blatantly obvious as he made his way over. He stumbled over clumps of dirt and nearly crashed into other half asleep horses several times. He was waking up, though, and by the time he'd reached the other horses, he was almost fully awake. He came to a halt on the edges of one of the quieter crowds and took a look at the mares around him. None of them really stood out to him, and most looked like they were going to fall asleep where they stood if the surrounding stallions gave them half a chance.
He dropped his head to the ground, half smiling. They'd wake up in time, just like him, but until then, he was happy with getting some grass into his stomach. He began to graze quietly on the cold grass, ears swiveling as he listened to the conversations around him. He glanced up from time to time to make sure he didn't miss any new arrivals that came in, despite the fact that he couldn't see any of them too clearly. The sun hadn't risen yet and the early morning gloom only allowed him to see the general shape of the mares and the colors of their coats. Most of them were plain, anyway, everyday chestnuts and bays. After a few minutes of grazing, though, one newcomer stood out enough in the murky light to incite Anwyl to lift his head from his meal. He watched as the pretty palomino mare passed by, chewing slowly on one last mouthful. The drafty mare had walked by him and the other stallions without a single word to any of them, and none of the others had seen her pass, being distracted or too sleepy to notice. Anwyl, though, had seen her, and was interested to see where she was going. He watched quietly as she went up to the stream that ran through the Homeless Grounds and began to crack the ice. He could hear the clear crack as the ice broke and smiled. Usually the mares simply asked one of the many stallions to break the ice for them, claiming to be too weak or fragile to do it themselves. This mare was clearly different, and definitely one he wanted to speak to.
He swallowed his last mouthful of grass, then began to trot over to the mare. As he approached, though, he caught sight of another stallion that seemed to have the exact same idea. Further ahead of him, a buckskin stallion was walking up to the pretty mare. He was just out of earshot, but could see the stallion's mouth moving as he talked to the mare. The Lipizzan had been hoping to be the first to approach the drafty mare, but now it wasn't to be. Second would work, though. He still had a shot at claiming her. Arctic Shrine was a cold, snowy land, and he didn't want to bring any fragile mares home with him. This mare looked stronger than other mares he'd seen today, and he was confident that snow wasn't a problem for her. As he came up beside the other stallion, he dipped his head to her politely, then gave a quick nod to the stallion beside him. “Good morning. Sorry if I've interrupted anything, I was just hoping to talk to someone that was actually awake.” he said, smiling at the mare. Then he flicked his tail backwards, gesturing the sleepy crowds of horses behind them. “Not many mares or stallions to talk to back there. Apparently no one wakes up before the sun rises except for us. My name is Anwyl, and yours?”

And god only knows all the places I've been
But i love this life that i'm living in
I wont look back to regret yesterday
Were not handed tomorrow so i'll live for today.

It was early, Kayden had slipped away from his sleepy piece of heaven in which he called home early enough to ensure that he would be home for his delightful family by night fall. With winter coming they were busy back in Soft Outcrop. He had found sufficient shelter for them for the coming storms one would experience in their mountainous home. The same terrain that brought upon them a more intense winter also brought to them shelter within caverns and cliffs. He had grown quite fond of his high altitude home, though with a growing herd, and two little ones on the way, he knew a larger domain was in demand.

This didn't stop the steel grey from entering the homeless lands. With the season turning he didn't want to imagine anyone being left in such an open, barren territory to fend for themselves throughout the nasty weather; he had enough to offer to a few more. As he waltzed deeper into the frosted common grounds his eyes began to wander. It wasn't long before his eyes fell upon the honey colored mare, who contrasted quite lovely against the fall surroundings. She was not alone, there was a buckskin and a light grey present, both appearing to be stallions.

His drafty form approached, picking where his positioned landed wisely as to not appear intrusive to anyone. He waited for silence to fall upon them, he was the last to approach so rightfully he would be the last to speak. Mairon and Anwyl were the others, it was nice to know he didn't miss the mare's name. He would hate to ask her to repeat herself. Solid neck contorted to allow a nod to be offered to those in company.

"Excuse me miss, my name is Kayden. I don't mean to be overbearing, three is company, though four might be a crowd." The mares back home were all social butterflies, he was hoping he could pick one out of a crowd by now. He had a feeling she wouldn't mind his company, but if she did he would be quick to leave. He didn't like to step on toes, he's never been comfortable upsetting the peace. Soon silence fell upon them again, he was curious to see if he would be the last to approach, anxious for the honey kissed mare to speak.

It felt so nice to be alone here in the mornings, there was so much silence in the air. The mare tried to relax though it was a little hard, she was nervous. Kalypso sometimes had flashbacks from the past and few moments she couldn’t get out of her head. It would be weird to join a herd again but this was just a step she had to take. The palomino mare looked around and noticed a stallion coming towards her. She wasn’t sure if she was happy, afraid, nervous or excited. All those feelings mixed together in one.

The stallion stopped in front of the mare and began to speak, Kalypso was afraid she would get so shy that she couldn’t speak so she tried to relax herself while the stallion was talking. He told her that his name was Marion and then asked her a question. The mare looked at the stallion and smiled. ”Honestly I would like to be alone” the mare thought but she couldn’t say that, she had to find herself a herd, without a home in the winter could kill her. “I would be glad to have your company” she said politely. She couldn’t really tell the buckskin stallion to back off could she? Kalypso was about to tell Marion her name when another stallion came up to them. He started with a simple “Good morning”, he continued and smiled. Kalypso smiled shyly to the stallion. After he talks a little the stallion introduces himself as Anwyl and he asks Kalypso for her name.

The mare looks around to check if anyone else is joining them before she continues when she hears another’s stallion’s voice. He speaks and introduces himself as Kayden. When the stallion stops speaking Kalypso decides there won’t be any more stallions approaching her, it was hard to speak to one stranger but to be speaking to three was a little bit more than she was expecting. “My name is Kalypso “ she said nicely with a calm voice, or at least as calm as it could get now. “ I guess I should maybe start telling you all a little bit about myself and then you could tell me about you and your herd” she said to the stallions and smiled.

Like I said earlier, my name is Kalypso, I am of the light alliance, I am four years old and I have no home” she said and looked down at her hoofs when she finished. Soon she raised her head and looked towards Marion, she wanted to be polite, he came first so she though he should be the one to speak first.

Everything was silent around the pair, he was starting to wonder if the mare did mind his company and he’d have to leave, but if that was the case, why would she be in the common grounds? He grew curious as to why she had silent for a moment, maybe she was a mute? Nevertheless, nothing could put him in a bad mood, he was generally happy to have Sabina, his first mare at home which was all he needed. To keep his mind busy, he looked around the rather filled land, looking at its features and its subtle changes. The trees were leaving their vibrant leaves, grass had a hue of paleness over it and the breeze was cooler than usual, he wondered what winter would be like in Imperial Point, sure it was a safe home, not that he had been there long, generally hoping it was safe enough to have a herd residing in it. When Mairon was last there, it seemed to have no recent damage done, though a few old scents remained, probably from the last herd that was there.

Distracting his musings, Mairon had failed to notice that another stallion; a grey, had arrived, joining the pair. This didn’t bother Mairon, he preffered other stallions companying him when offering a mare his claim, no reason at all. The buckskin stallion gazed over towards the grey stallion, looking over the stallion’s strong features, the grey stallion was shorter than Mairon but his body frame seemed to play a favour in it all. The grey stallion offered a polite nod towards Mairon, a smile increased on his murky lips and in return, nodded back before looking towards the sturdy mare. After Anwyl had introduced himself, before anyone could say another word, a stallion had approached the group now.

It was another grey, though this one was more of a steel grey and his features seemed to be more refined than Mairon and Anwyl’s frames. Before the grey stallion spoke, he offered a nod towards the others, Mairon did the same in return again, waiting to hear his introduction. Ears swiveled at his voice, naming himself as Kayden. So now there was three stallions, the mare had quite a variety to choose from now, it wouldn’t be easy for her Mairon assumed.

Mairon watches the palomino mare look around before she had decided to speak, probably to see if there were any other stallions coming her way. Finally she spoke, introducing herself to all three stallions as Kalypso, a small smile still remained on his lips. His attention was fully towards Kalypso, assuming she would speak some more and she did. A four year old, light alliance and homeless mare, he couldn’t help himself but chuckle to himself briefly as she said homeless, Mairon wasn’t making fun of her but of course she would be if she were here.

Kalypso looked directly at Mairon, assuming it was now his turn to speak and tell her a bit about himself now. Clearing his throat, “Well, I’m Mairon and I have recently claimed Imperial Point; just near the centre of The Offland which isn’’t far from here. Imperial Point is a decent sized land with a mountain peak overlooking the majority of it, it offers shelter, food and water. I offer many things including protection and a home.” Pausing before he decided to continuing, “I also have claimed a few mares who I hope are back there.” The buckskin stallion paused again and stopped speaking, he held a stern gaze on Kalypso awaiting her reaction to his little speech before he looked towards Anwyl assuming it was his turn to speak now.

A second after the Lipizzan had finished his introduction to the mare, another stallion had stepped up and made his way to the group. Anwyl glanced over at the other male, looking him over. He seemed polite enough, giving a nod to the other two stallions, to which Anwyl responded in kind. The new stallion was a gray, like Anwyl, and about the same height, but the similarities ended there. The stallion was more of a steel gray in color with a more refined build. As the stallion, now introducing himself as Kayden, began to speak, Anwyl was jolted out of his thoughts. His attention turned to Kayden's introduction to the palomino mare before them, standing by quietly as he awaited his own turn to speak again.

He listened patiently to the pretty mare's introduction, his tail flicking around his haunches absently as he stored the information away in the back of his mind. Then, as Mairon's turn to speak began, his ears and his attention honed in on the buckskin. Learning more about the other stallions' lands could be useful one day, especially if he ever felt a need to challenge for the land. His territory, though he did love it for the beauty the mountains provided, resources were difficult to find in the deep snow. Mairon's land, by the sound of it, seemed to be better than his own. But then again, Anwyl had never ventured into The Offland. He hadn't had to travel in search of a land for long, coming across Arctic Shrine rather quickly, and he was rather content to stay there. He still stood a chance, though, if the mare was going to base off who she was going to decide on by territories. Who knew, maybe Kayden had a land much worse than his.

Anwyl felt Mairon's gaze on him as the buckskin finished speaking. The gray gladly started his turn to convince the mare to choose him. He liked the mare he had now, though he didn't know her as well as he wished he did. This mare would make a welcome addition to his tiny herd. The only obstacle was getting her to join him. “I've come from Arctic Shrine in The Loftland. I can't honestly say that I can offer as much luxury as Mairon or Kayden might. My land's small and snowy, as many of the territories in the mountainside are. There are hotsprings in the temple in Arctic Shrine, where it's always warm, no matter what the weather outside.” He paused for a moment, trying to think of anything else to say. “I only have one mare, and I can promise you the protection I've given her.” He glanced over at Kayden, unconsciously mimicking Mairon as he waited for the other gray to speak.

The steely grey looked upon the palomino with kind eyes, admiring her solid build. Lighter built horses possessed agility and more dancer like features yes, but it was becoming apparent to Kayden that much like himself, he had a type. Without having to wait too long the honey mare introduced herself as Kalypso, she shared that she was part of the light alliance. While this drafty spanish horse hybrid was a neutral he was raised by light parents, and simply felt at peace in the company of lights. Kayden grinned and although excited to talk more to this mare he would wait his turn. Attention was pulled away from Kalypso, as hard as it was for him to do, to look towards the buckskin male. He was the first to approach, it would be his turn to speak first.

He introduced himself as Mairon, and this is when it sparked to Kayden he had encountered the stallion once before in the homeless grounds. He seemed to always be the first to approach, and he found himself wondering if this male ever bothered to go home? Mairon described his home, and how he had claimed a few other mares, and expressed his uncertainty as to whether they were home. This confused Kayden, he took the time to accompany each and every mare he was fortunate enough to gain their trust back to Soft Outcrop himself, he wasn't aware others did it in any other way. Perhaps he was always aware he was old fashioned, but he didn't know genuine courtesy and care went out of style.

Soon the second male spoke, introducing himself as Anwyl. He was an unfamiliar face, Kayden didn't recall bumping into him before. As he began describing his home he mentioned his name. This directed the grey's sienna eyes towards him, where he began really paying attention to what he was saying. He could relate, though he was absolutely fond of his homeland and it provided all he would need for him and a couple mares it wasn't large enough to support his growing family, which was why he had to do what was unconventional for someone of his personality and challenge for a land. The stallion never showed, and Kayden was somewhat relieved, he didn't want bad blood. None the less, he was pleased that he would have somewhere to move his herd after winter that was large enough to support his mare and their offspring. There was nothing Kayden cared about more.

Once silence fell upon them once more he realized it was his turn to share a bit about himself. Clearing his throat, he turned his eyes back to Kalypso, his friendly smile returning to his face once more. "I currently reside in Soft Outcrop, which I will through the worst of the winter before I move my herd to Granite Twins. It isn't that I don't fancy my current home, it will be quite hard to depart from there. I only wish to provide more for my growing family, which is all any stallion should strive for." The vision of Granite Twins returned to the male's mind, he spent a good portion of his foal hood there after his home land, Nomad's Baron, was deemed unlivable during the floods. He was excited to live in a land both he and his parents had memories of, he also hoped maybe his mother would return for a visit. Noticing his mind was wandering off track he turned his attention back to the conversation at hand, eyes looking softly upon the sweet mare."Like Mairon and Anwyl, I am here with the intentions of giving you a home, and a promise to provide for you the best I can. I am of the Neutral alliance, though I was raised by lights. I do say, it is very nice to meet you Kalypso, and if you require any further information feel free to ask away." Feeling that he had spoken a fair share it would be wise to let the lady have a turn. He wasn't usually so chatty, but he was so happy about his life he found it hard to stop talking about it.

Baby can you see through the tears?

The palomino mare waited to see the stallions’ next action. She was hoping they would all share a little information about themselves that could help her make a decision that would change her life. A chuckle reaches her ears and her ears rotate towards the chuckle. Her eyes are now focused on Marion, she didn’t like to be laughed at. Kalypso’s confident wasn’t at the highest right now and having someone chuckle over the things she said didn’t help. Shortly after the buckskin began to speak, he began to tell her where he had claimed a land and its location. Then the stallion started telling her about some things in the territory and lastly he said he had few mares that he hoped were back home. It would make Kalypso very uncomfortable to wander alone into a land she didn’t know where it was.

Next in line was Anwyl, he looks like a stallion she could really connect with. The gray looked nice and caring. He started talking, telling her where he lived and how it was there. Kalypso like the description of the land, snow wouldn’t bother her that much nor the hot springs. A smile crosses her lips when he speaks. She is slowly starting realize who she wants to go with but there is one stallion left to talk and she had no idea if that would change her mind or not. Her eyes turn towards Kayden who has started speaking.

Like the other two the steel gray begins with telling her where his territory is. However he tells her that he will soon move his herd to a place called Granite Twins. When Kayden told her the reason for leaving he caught her attention. This stallion really looked like one who would care for his herd. He told her that he was a neutral but he was raised by lights. This pleased the palomino mare. It was like she had found a perfect stallion. The mare had made a decision who to go with.

She cleared her throat, a little nervous to announce to the other stallions that she would choose. She hated to send them away. The sun was starting to creep onto the sky and horses began to wake up. A smile crosses her lips as she speaks. “I have chosen to go with Kayden” she says as she looks at the steel gray stallion. A glimpse of happiness is in her eyes. She quickly looks back at Anwyl “I’m sorry, I wish you all the best to find a new herd mate” she says and smiles and looks towards Marion. “It was nice talking to you” she says still a little disappointed by his laughter. Though that laughter wasn’t what ruined his chance, Kayden had just proven himself that he was the right one for Kalypso. She looks at the steel gray and waits for his action, though his next action would hopefully be him escorting her home.
