WELL SWEET MOTHER TERESA ON THE HOOD OF A MERCEDES BENZ

what happens when you become the main source of the pain
Hecate made her way to the foaling quarry in no rush, but she was beginning to worry. Her contractions had begun as she had swam over to the common grounds and she could feel the foal moving inside her at a rapid rate. She was sure Thresh had not been this active in the foaling process, not until the very end at least. Swallowing with difficulty, as her mouth had gone dry, she tried to trot, but had to stumble back to a walk as her barrel was too heavy. The silvery appaloosa made into the quarry, her tail lashing round her sides in a vicious effort to try and slow the process down, but it had no avail. The foal was coming quickly and Hecate needed to find a safe area to foal her new child. Currently, she didn’t fancy giving birth on the borderline of the quarry.

She had left Thresh back in Cardamom. Her lovely son was now a two year old and very capable of being on his own for a few days or so until Hecate returned home. She was sure the other herd mares could keep an eye out for her on him, and there was always Corvo there if Thresh needed anything. Her son had turned into a lovely red dun colour, but had retained his appaloosa markings. She loved him very much, but knew her time with him was limited. Quiet, resourceful and shrewd, she knew Thresh would use these qualities he possessed to find his own place in the world as soon as possible. Still, she would have the new foal to take care of, so seeing her first child leave would not be so painful.

The foal was rapidly on it’s way now, and Hecate had no time to lose. She made her way to a small clump of trees which was only a few feet away. The appaloosa mare wasn’t happy about foaling so near the edge of the quarry, but she had no choice. Getting into the thick of the copse merely for privacy reasons, she lay down, hitting the ground a little harder than intended and wincing at the impact. The foal was nearly in the world now, and it didn’t take much pushing for it to be freed of Hecate’s body. The adrenaline hit the appaloosa straight after, reeling a little as she gazed over at her filly. A girl! Now she and Corvo had one of each. Staggering to her feet, still a little dazed, she began to groom the foal, admiring her seal bay coat and the way her rump was covered in alabaster. However, she lacked spots, unlike Thresh and herself.

Once the filly was warm and clean, the mare urged her foal to stand. She was reluctant at first, and kept falling, but with Hecate’s help, she shakily stood. The silvery spotted mare moved so the filly could nurse, and Hecate thought of names. She had always liked Castanet for a girl, and it seemed to suit her. Smiling at her new name, she nudged her filly nuzzling her small head as she sighed in relief.
