The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight

The sun was just starting to crawl up to the sky. The sky was light pink and orange and with a hint of blue. The dark brown colored stallion walked to the battle grounds, his hoofs landing smoothly on the soft surface. It was time. He had seen a mare not so long ago, a beautiful mare but sadly she was already claimed by another stallion. But that was all about to change. Her claimer was Calex but hopefully Frodo would be able to defeat him and bring Ifrit to Council Cove. This was the last day of spring and summer was just around the corner. The sixteen hand hybrid waited for Calex to come. Frodo would wait for three days; if the stallion would not come he would get the mare. He walked around making sure not to stay still if the other stallion would maybe come behind him. While he waited he thought of ways to attack, it could come in handy to plan his strategy before the battle would start. He snorted and it was like smoke came out of his nose in the chilly morning air.

Calex galloped into the battle grounds eyes flashing with anger muscles bulging and flexing with what seemed like unlimited strength. The grulla stallions brown eyes were cold with his anger not just at the fool for challenging for the mother of his beautiful twin daughters Israe & Isai but with the anger at Ifrit for having a lack of faith in him. Calex let a fierce bugle rip up his throat as he approached a stallion who was approximately the same height as himself. Calex knew he had not been around but he had been about to call a herd meeting when he was informed of a challenge for one of his mares. This put him in a foul mood, as one might imagine. Calex entered the clearing nares flaring using all of his senses to get a feel for his opponent. The sun was just creeping into the horizon but Calex was paying no mind to that, he was solely focused on the challenge ahead of him so he could go home and have a serious word with Ifrit. Calex just studied the horse opposite him with his cold darkness that filled him. For a long while he did not speak just observing his opponent who dared challenge for one of his mares. "So your the fool who is trying to claim my mare." Calex sneered at the stallion. "To make this quick, If I win you will never challenge me again for Ifrit's claim and you owe me a favor, in the slight chance I loose you can have Ifrit but I keep my twin daughters." Calex would not be negotiating these terms if the other stallion had something to add he better do it quickly because Calex wanted to get home.

After waiting for one day the stallion finally showed up. It was about time, the sun was starting to go down. It was not completely dark but if he had to wait any longer it would have been. Frodo had his eyes stuck on the stallion that was coming closer, if he tried to make a move he would be ready to defend himself. When Calex spoke of him as a fool Frodo didn’t show any expression in his face, it wasn’t something he wanted to be called but showing any kind of anger might please Calex and that was not on his to do list. Frodo listened to what Calex had to say and to be honest he found it a bit unfair. If he would lose he would not be allowed to challenge for her claim again and own him a favor as well, there was nobody that could stop Frodo from trying to steal her again. If Frodo would win he would keep Ifrit but the twins would have to stay, it was a bit harsh of him to separate them from their mother. “I am not a father myself but as you are I would think you had the sense not to separate a mother from her children. The decision is yours to make, Ifrit keeps one of the twins if I win and I will leave you alone” Frodo said but he was not done talking. “If you choose to take both twins you can bet I will come at you again”. Frodo had most of his thoughts on the sicker foal. That one needed her mother and it would only kill her if she was taken away. Frodo stared at Calex wanting to know what he thought.

The grulla stallion watched the other stallion as he tried to negotiate with him. Calex let out a sharp bark of laughter at the other males words. "From a fathers stand point I would have neither of the twins go with out a mother but since Your the one taking Ifrit away the fault is yours not mine." Calex looked upon the other stallion with cold eyes. "If you have nothing more to be foolish about then we will continue." The gulla stallion waited patiently for to see if the other male had anything more to say. Calex was tiring of discussing Ifrit's betrayal and accusations that were completely false.

For a moment Frodo got a little angry at his comment. He didn’t let it show on the outside though. The stallion as right of course, Frodo was challenging for her. But the decision was not theirs to make, the mother should be able to take care of that. Then the fillies should also be able to decide where to go. The stallion snorted. “We should not be choosing if the foals go with the mother or not, they should decide it when time comes. I won’t change my mind on that so no reason to keep on talking”. The dark brown stallion would not even let the other stallion answer; his confident and his voice were starting to annoy him. It was also time to begin the battle.

Attack one

Frodo was neither taller nor smaller than the other stallion. This would be a fair battle, but as Frodo carried Clydesdale blood he was rather strong. He pawed at the ground and snorted. It was like a smoke coming out of his nostrils in the cold evening air. His eyes focused on Calex, he wondered what would be the best way to cause as much damage in the beginning of the battle. Then it would be easier to take him down in the end.

All his muscles were flexed under his scruffy coat, the outline of the muscles were hard to see under the layer of brown coat. Frodo was standing few steps away, he would not be able to run at him as he would not get a proper speed unless he would take few steps back but it would put him in danger. The stallion shook his head, reared up on his hind legs and launched. He pushed himself forth with his hind legs. He could feel all his weight shoot forward towards the stallion he was attacking. Frodo hoped that he would cause some damage to his ribs or his legs.

Frodo felt his body land on the ground; he hoped that he had hit the stallion before landing on the ground, he believed he did but there was only one way to tell. The stallion hurried to his feet, his coat covered in dirt and grass. There was no time to wait; Calex could come back at him at any second. His head moved towards the stallion and he opened his eyes, he searched on the stallion’s body to see if any damage had been done. He pawed at the ground again and waited for Calex.
