The perlino mustang mare shook the water off of her coat, leaving it glistening in the winter sun. Paige had swum long and hard to get to the homeless lands, though the way she walked one would not know she had a long tiring journey. Her blue orbs looked across the land for any signs of life such as herself. Seeing none she shook the remaining water from her coat, mane, and tail to keep from getting cold. She seemed normal except for the light scar on her throat from an accident with a rambunctious older brother, leaving her mute since she was very young. Though only being 5 years of age she seemed to be wise beyond her years as she glanced around the lands and twitching her ears to alert her of anyone coming. She kept her eyes up and pawed the earth slightly, feeling if it was any good to draw pictures that would help others figure her name out and why she was here. The earth here was alright she figured as she waited for anyone to come. |

sweet dreams && flying machines in pieces on the ground.

The liver chestnut brindle stallion hadn't been to the homeless grounds in quite some time, and he had to admit he hadn't missed it all that much. The last time he'd been through this place had been the previous winter when he'd come across Zaltana huddled against a massive tree for warmth against the blizzard which had been brewing at the time. He had been more than relieved to find her there, especially since it was likely that neither of them would have survived through it without the other's body heat. This homeless, though, was a whole other ball field. It was dotted with vegetation, the heavily trodden territory trying valiantly to bloom like the rest of the planet was at this time of the year, sprigs of new greenery shooting up all over the place and the trees already suitable for shade. He'd been here for a little while having made the trek late the day previous and spent the evening in the wooded areas nearby. The ocean's salty tang had only served to compliment his stunning liver colored coat, its every inch bright with health and a cleanliness that only a solid dunk in the drink could achieve. His stripes streak down his coat as if he'd been drizzled upon and had simply never dried, but it only does to improve his already handsome features. All four white stockings are as bright as freshly fallen snow to match the perfect blaze which ran down his face, musculature in top condition for anything life could throw his way. He is a looker, but he is hardly at a point in his life anymore where he wants to flaunt it. Muscles flex easily beneath his Friesian Sport Horse build, powering him across the terrain with ease and no hesitation to be seen. Half length mane and full tail sway gently with the bit of warm breeze which whisks its way through the place, but it is not the scenery which catches his attention; it is, instead, a most stunning mare emerging from the drink not terribly far from him. She is still slick with the moisture of it despite Prime's best effort to begin drying her coat with his steadily strengthening tendrils of light, eyes of the palest blue and stocky figure powerful as she strikes at the ground. Perhaps she is an excitable one, but he doesn't let this possibility stop him. He moves forward, steadily drawing closer but at a moderate pace so as not to alarm her. He smiles as he nears, mahogany eyes bright with interest in the stunning maiden before halting at a respectable distance away. He stretches his naturally arched neck forward and flares his nostrils, hoping to exchange breaths should she feel so inclined to do so. "I was passing by and couldn't help but notice you emerge from the sea." he says warmly, his voice deep and sincere as he speaks. "I am Raoden, a Neutral, from Escadus in the Loftlands. Might I trouble you for your name?" he asks politely, still caught off guard by her beauty even though it doesn't show on his face. He is good at that, hiding his true feelings behind an outgoing and charming facade. ooc: sorreh, i got a little rambleh xDDD Edited by Rival, Jun 27 2012, 06:11 PM.

Hearing the soft crunch of grass and the sound of the stallion's voice, the mare turned to face him. Her blue orbs trailed up and down him, studying him closely. Her ears were pricked forward in anticipation and eagerness to see if he would be able to accept her and her condition. She nodded at his question and slowly mouthed the words, "Paige." She knew she needed to show him her scar before he got the wrong impression and hoped that he did not just run off because of her being mute. She hated it when others looked at her and spoke, only to have no reply. The other horses usually scoffed at her and left calling her stupid. She was far from it however. Paige did like what she saw in the stallion and gave him a friendly smile. She could only hope that he would understand. She was willing to show him via pictures scratched into the earth what had happened to her to cause this strange predicament. But for now she waited to see if he would ask. Ooc: Holy... and yes you did get rambly lol. Great post though. |

The mare perks up and is at full attention, her demeanor a pleasant and obviously friendly one. He relaxes a bit, glad to know she isn't some crazy thing out to attack him for saying the wrong words. When he asks her name, though, she does the oddest thing he's ever seen. She moves her mouth, but nothing happens. She grins at him, but he can only look confused. He shakes his head as if to clear something from his ears and then looks quizzically back at her. Had she lost her voice or something? He could understand, the salt water could really do a number on one's throat in the swim abroad. She'd simply not had enough time to recover. Heck, from what he'd seen, he hadn't even given her a moment to get fresh water if she needed it! Thinking this was surely the reason she hadn't spoken aloud, he shakes his head at himself. "I'm sorry, I didn't even give you a moment to recover!" he says, truly apologetic. In good humor he gestures towards the lake. "Did you want to get a drink and maybe your voice will come back soon enough? I know the salt in the drink really tends to take it out of me sometimes. Especially when it gets up the nostrils you know!" he says with a good natured laugh, the gleam in his eye showing that he really had first had knowledge of this and was amused by it. It wouldn't have occurred to him that she couldn't speak at all. |

Visibly seeing the stallion relax, Paige relaxed even more. She watched him become confused and fear shot through her for a few seconds before his warm voice brought her back to reality. She nodded her head at his first realization. He did not really give her a chance to even dry off but that did not bother her a bit. It was nice to be welcomed to the lands, even to this homeless land. The stallion gestured toward a pristine blue lake that sparkled in the sunlight. No she had not noticed that because it looked like the sea, so she thought it was part of the ocean. Looking back to the stallion, she listened to his next exclamation and she nodded vigorously. She watched him curiously and wondered if he had really accepted the fact she could not speak but there was something in his eyes that said he did not understand. She waited for him to lead her to the water with a slight dip of her head, her mane falling in her eyes. Shaking her head to remove her forelock, her scar was a little more visible gleaming slightly in the light of the sun. |

The mare nods happily in regards to getting a drink of water, so Raoden turns immediately towards the nearby fresh water lake. She falls in step alongside and immediately he can tell he likes her. Her demeanor is simply so calm and refreshing, he wonders what her voice will sound like once her throat has been soothed. When she tosses her forelock from her face, he notices a glint of something just at her throat and, even though he takes a mental note of it, he does not connect it with her lack of ability to speak. He'd never met a mute mare before, so naturally his mind simply didn't take that route. Not yet anyway. They near the banks and Raoden has to admit he's feeling a bit thirsty himself, so with a sideways smile at the mare he walks right into the mellow waters. They haven't been churned by anyone else just yet on this day, so he goes in about up to his barrel before stopping and sinking his muzzle right in. He drinks deeply and relishes the slight chill of the water against his legs and barrel. He flings his nose up playfully and water is slung every which way, so he turns back to face the speechless mare to see if she approves of his silly antics. He grins and flings water again, this time more in her direction. He doesn't aim to hit her with the water, especially if she doesn't want to be any more damp than she already is, but fresh did tend to feel better on the skin than salt. At least when the salt's dried that is. He drinks deeply again and then starts to make his way back towards the bank. She might not want to converse with him while he's belly deep in the lake. |

Coming up to the waters edge, she dipped her ivory head down and took a long drought of water. The water was cool and crisp. Relishing the drink, out of the corner of her eye she noticed the stallion walk into the water. Raising her head, she watched him with amusement. As the stallion was drinking, he flung water all over the place. Her head shot up and she watched him closely with amusement in her eyes. She liked his humor. When he tossed water in her direction, she smiled and dipped her muzzle into the water and threw some back at him. Not enough to even get him wet. She smiled at him and waited until he was out of the water. |

He laughs, glad that she sees humor and positive simplicity in his water flinging rather than immaturity. He felt it was important to keep his fun loving attitude, regardless of how old he got. Not that he was that old or anything. He squeals, snorting and prancing as best he can out of the water when she flings it back at him. Admittedly he is showing off a little, arching his handsome warmblood neck and moving prettily to send water spraying about him as he clamors upon the bank once more. He shakes vigorously some distance away from her so as not to rudely flick water on her by accident and then moves back towards her finally. "That's a little better, yes?" he asks her earnestly, grinning at her, feeling spunky now that the breeze has managed to delightfully chill the drenched places on his body. "So, what did you say your name was? I deduced that it starts with a P I believe, but hopefully you can help me out now that you've had a bit of sustenance." he says thoughtfully, more eager now to get her name than before. He could tell she was a good natured mare and already was taking a liking to her personality. Now, just to hear her name. He is still utterly clueless that she cannot speak at any time; leave it to a boy not to figure things out that quickly. |

Paige would have laughed had she had her voice but instead she smiled even bigger at the stallion's playfulness. She watched him prance about in the water and show off. This did not bug her at all. Watching him climb out of the crystal water, now turning muddy from his intrusion, he shook his coat free of the water. As he came to her, she wondered still if he was going to run when he realized she could not speak. Now was the moment of truth. She mouthed slowly, "I'm Paige and I'm sorry.. I can not speak.." She knew though that he would not understand right away as to what she was mouthing, so she lifted her head up and allowed the suns rays glint off of her scar on her throat, where her vocal cords were severed from the hoof of her brother. An accident but a severe one none the less. Lowering her head, she stared at the ground, flicking her ears to catch any sound that may come from him. She was also prepared to try and scratch pictures into the earth but unsure of what the stallion might do, she waited for his response.

Roaden watches her with eager eyes, waiting quite expectantly for her to speak this time. It was terribly unusual for a horse to lose their voice so completely, but he feels confident that the water will have helped to some extent. Instead, she starts mouthing as she had before. Unaccustomed to this as he was, he immediately assumes that she needs more time to rest and focuses on her lips as it was obvious she was wanting him to do. He catches that her name is Paige, a pretty name, but the rest that she says is a little confusing for him. He was thinking that she'd said She wouldn't peek, but that made no sense at all. He looks at her a little confused, handsome face a tad comical as he tries to sort out what she may have really said. Then, she places her head at an odd angle and an unusual flash shows from her neck. He looks with interest and then, when her gaze is redirected to the ground, he is standing in silence deciphering the puzzle she's placed before him. She looks ashamed, he thinks, and a little bit at a time it makes sense as to why. She wasn't telling him that she wouldn't peek.... She was saying that she couldn't speak! He could obviously tell that she couldn't speak, but the fact that she'd shown him her scarred neck and then turned away told him all that he needed to know. She meant she couldn't speak at all. He was immediately taken aback and his brow furrowed with thought as he pondered it. Well that really sucked. He wondered what he would do if he couldn't properly tell off horses who were driving him bonkers. Even more, how could she communicate with the ones she loved clearly? This is intimidating and for a few awkward moments he is unsure of what to say. He remembers, though, that just a few moments ago he'd been treating her like any other mare he might have met and she had enjoyed it; why should he do anything differently? He would just have to pay attention through the rest of this conversation. "I'm... sorry." he says somewhat awkwardly, immediately sighing and feeling stupid for saying it. Obviously apologizing for her handicap wouldn't make it any less than the issue it was. Nor would it make her feel any better. "Well, it's nice to meet you Paige!" he says proudly, grinning ear to ear now that he's recovered from acting like an awkward fool. He has to admit that it's a bit intimidating, but he wasn't about to walk away from her just because she couldn't speak. Obviously she could communicate and had an excellent personality; this was more than enough reason not to walk away. His beaming smile gives way to pleasant curiosity and he ponders asking her how this happened, but he can't help but realize this would be painfully rude. So, obviously, he keeps his wondering to himself. "Tell me, what are you looking for? Aside from just a home that is." he asks her, obviously moving to a much more serious note rather quickly. Obviously she is here looking for a home, and obviously she wants to start a life with a stallion. He wanted to know, though, what her expectations were; he wanted to get to know her more. He pays close attention to her face now, her lips in particular. This was going to take some practice. |

The awkwardness that surrounded the stallion was a little much. She had run into a few horses that did not know what to do with her. They usually left, completely confused as to what to do with her or how to communicate. Hearing his apology, she would have laughed if she had a voice, but never the less gave her full attention to the stallion as he finally said her name. Her head and ears perked as she had not heard her name spoken by really anyone else except her family. Happiness and excitement filled her eyes despite the fact that he was smiling and a little awkward. She wondered if he wanted to know what exactly happened but when he did not ask, she did not show him. She would wait to show him then, for it was just a bad accident, where she was in the wrong place and time when her brother was bucking around. Her brother did not do it on purpose but was so excited about a mare telling him he was handsome that in his excitement he accidentally kicked his younger sister. Hearing his questions, she nodded. She did want a home and place to stay. Mouthing slowly, she answered, "A fun loving stallion such as yourself." Upon mouthing this she blushed. Paige had not really had this much fun in a while. |

Raoden is glad to see the grin on Paige's face and smiles reflexively in return, admiring her beauty for what it really was: both outside and in. The directness of her mouthed answer catches him off guard, but flatters him very much. He didn't quite catch it word for word, but she'd lipped it slowly enough that he'd gotten the gist of it. He would really have to practice watching lips and body language more in a mare that couldn't speak. "Well if you'll have me, I think I could handle that sort of request." he says playfully, the striped liver chestnut sending her a wink at his joke. "You would really enjoy my home I think. I have three other mares, all of which are absolutely wonderful to be around. I think you'd like them." he says, thinking of his mares and the unending sort of understanding they had for just about everyone. Even Akanti, the pregnant mare he'd brought home until she found someplace more permanent had been readily accepted by the other mares. They simply trusted him, and he trusted them as well. |

Paige tossed her head, her white mane flowing in the slight wind. Getting some of her mane stuck in her face, she blew it out of the way. Her ears pricked forward listening to Raoden talk about the mares he had and blushed slightly when he winked at her. She was a little nervous of others because of her disability but if Raoden trusted them, then she could to. She couldn't wait to see where Raoden would take her and dipped her head to him to let him know that he would have to lead the way and that she was ready to follow him where ever he led her. Her blue eyes admired the stallion for sticking it this far with her. |
