The tobiano stallion walked calmly into the Battle Grounds, despite the fact that it smelled of gore and violence. His ears were pricked forward like normal, bright blue eyes watching in case Corr arrived behind him. The stallion had never battled before and had given up his claim on Cleric's Realm a few seasons before. Not wanting to live off of his uncle in the South Codex, Maleficarum had decided to challenge for what he thought to be the former land of his grandsire Virote. His dam, Viern, had mentioned the land once or twice in his youth; it might have just been stories though. Coming to what seemed like a large field, the minimally marked black tobiano waited for the blood-red stallion with careful eyes. |

He was here again. How many times had it been now? This was the third, but this time he was on the other end of the battle. Maybe his fortunes would change? The blood colored stallion walked into the battle grounds with a kind of pride that he had not possessed in his previous battles. Yes he had pride then, but it had been more bravado than anything. Now his pride felt more real. The seven year old walked forward past the splashes of blood toward the scent of the stallion who had challenged him. Part of him wished to work a deal with the horse, but there was another, larger part of him that would not allow him to work with another male. That ability had been forced out of him at a young age. Corr came upon a tobiano stallion and turned to survey him with his left eye. The right was scarred and damaged. He wanted to look at his opponent through his good eye. "I am Corr and I suppose you are my challenger." The stallion paused, warring quietly within his mind. He cleared his throat. "Shall we make a deal or shall we get to it?" |

The tobiano male watched as the red stallion approached, nerves slightly fluttering up in his barrel. Did he really want to do this? If he took no land now, chances were that he would become a Rogue or simply Beta for someone for the rest of his life. His blue optics steeled over: the time was now. The male lowered his head as Corr supposed him to be his challenger aloud. A deal. In his mind, Mal did not allow it. A deal was what got him co-ownership of Cleric's Realm. "I don't believe I'm interested in making deals. So, in regard to your mares, I will not force a claim upon them should they not want to stay. If they wish to leave, so be it. I have no mares and no children if you are the type to involve them. I would not risk them should I have had them." He allowed a breath to pass before he spoke again. "If you and your mares would quit the land now, we won't have to battle. I can advise you to go to the Stills. My uncle, a stallion called Zythric, lives there, and I have heard he may quit the land soon." The stallion raised his head slightly, sending a silent prayer to the powers that be to allow him to win this battle should Corr refuse his offer. He had already spoken to the slate grullo about maybe harboring a few horses, that was when the other stallion had revealed he was not happy with the territory any longer. Maleficarum watched the red stallion warily, preparing himself for a surprise first attacks. |

Corr regarded the other stallion silently and listened to his words carefully. The red stallion had waited too long to settle and it had taken him too long to find a place for himself and Valora. "I have no claimed mares so it is simply the land we will fight over." The stallion thought of Valora again. She was yet to say anything, but he knew the day was coming for them. The stallion refocused his thoughts on the challenger before him. "Why should I leave a land I'm happy with. Why don't you go speak to your uncle." There was a bite behind his words and Corr could feel himself loosing his temper. His dislike for stallions grew every time he saw one. Why could they not leave him in peace? The stallion waited for the other to make a move. If no move was made he would fabricate his. There were already ideas floating through his mind. (ooc: You may attack first if you like) |

With a sigh at the other stallion's words, Maleficarum thought as to what he should do. He had no desire to fight, but he felt a calling for him to be settled at Eagle's Nest. Zythric would be leaving the Stills, making it available, but the tobiano had no desire to be a resident, much less the claimer, of the tundra-like territory. "I do not wish to fight, but I'm afraid that, if you do not accept my offer of a free land, that we shall have to continue on to do so." There was no part of the black stallion that wished to continue on with barbaric rituals on a stallion's world. He wanted to do things peacefully, but not everything would go that way all the time. Perhaps this was one of those times. |

The stallion snorted out a laugh. "It took me too long to find a place to call home. I will not give it up so easily for a land that could be inhospitable." Corr had waited too long to settle down and start a real life. He wasn't about to have it stripped away. He wasn't looking forward to another scar to add to his list, but he was happy in Eagle's Nest. "Why don't you go to the Stills? If you aren't willing to live in a place then why should I be persuaded to move my herd there?" He was beginning to think that the younger stallion was playing with him and he laughed again. He sobered and cleared his throat. "Why don't you move first boy? Neither of us want to be here. We might as well get it over with. Or better yet you could just leave." His voice only got colder the longer he spoke. He needed his luck to change and he would not be the one to make the first move. That had cost he dearly. |

At the words of the other stallion, Maleficarum bristles. Acting on instinct, Mal rushes forward, beginning the battle. Attack One: The tobiano male charges the red stallion, but he did not get to go very quickly because of their close proximity to each other. As he gets dangerously close to the other stallion, Mal slides to a half-stop, swinging his hindquarters against the other male's shoulder, kicking out as he did so. In his opinion, the tobiano had hit his opponent's shoulder rather hard, but he cannot tell if Corr's shoulder has given way or if his hoof had even hit anything in the process. Time would tell. In an instant, Mal retreats a few strides, turning to face his blood-colored opponent, not wanting to be surprised from behind. His teeth bare menacingly at the other stallion, ready to bite and rip should he charge as well. |

Defense One: Corr saw the stallion move forward and swing his rump around. He knew what was coming next and in an effort to dodge maximum damage the stallion attempted to spin away using his hind legs to anchor him to the ground. He was able to move his shoulder away from the stallion's hooves, but he still felt the impact of one of them hitting his shoulder and the other grazing off the side of his chest. As the other stallion moved a few paces away Corr felt the pain caused by the blows. He didn't dare look down at the wounds, but at least one was bleeding. His shoulder felt wet and hot, almost burning. Attack One: The red stallion had kept his eyes on his opponent, watching his movements. He wasn't very far away. Corr leapt forward with his uninjured leg hitting the ground first. Corr's mouth was open, teeth bared and ready to bite when he got within range. He angled his head so that his teeth could possibly latch onto the stallion's throat latch. In the moment he wasn't sure if he missed or if his aim was true. If he made contact he knew one thing; he wasn't going to let go until he was forced to. He tasted blood, but he was unsure if he had bitten the challenger or only accidentally taken his own tongue between his teeth. |

Defense One: When the red stallion darted forward, Mal tried to angle his head downward so that the stallion couldn't bite into his neck. Instead of blocking his neck as he had hoped, the tobiano had moved too late: Corr had a hold on his neck. It wasn't on his throatlatch, but Corr had enough pressure to make Mal panic. He could feel trickles of blood begin to stream down his black neck; Mal had never been in a battle like this, but he knew that if he didn't get Corr off of him, he could very well suffer muscle damage in his neck or die in the worst case scenario. Attack Two: When Corr did not release his hold, the black tobiano tried to rear upward, dragging the red male upwards with him, but hopefully not giving the other stallion a deeper hold. As he reared, Mal tried to paw hard forward, trying to bruise or possibly break his opponent's shoulder or chest. The stallion couldn't tell if he had made impact with Corr's body, but he was almost sure that something had given way, maybe his shoulder, leg, or withers. But, in the heat of battle, one could never be sure of what had happened. |

Defense Two: When Mal reared up Corr was forced to follow him, rearing up as well. The only problem was from his angle he couldn't see the other stallion's legs. When the first blow hit Corr let go of Mal's neck in an effort to preserve himself. Another blow was mde, hitting his shoulder and forcing Corr to back up to balance himself and not flip over onto his back. Corr's shoulder was searing with hot pain. He didn't want to put any weight on it for fear that it would be useless. It was definitly dislocated, if not worse. He couldn't tell if there was any blood, but he assumed he was bleeding. The pain was distracting him from any wetness that could have been detected. Attack Two: Corr was still balanced in a rear, but he knew he had to land at some point or be knocked over and have his belly exposed to the other stallion. The pain in his shoulder told him that kicking at the stallion was out of the question. His best option was to try to bite the stallion again. Corr let the front of his body move back toward the ground, but as he did he lashed out at the stallion's leg and elbow, wishing to take it in his teeth and shake it if his aim was true. The stallion tried his best to keep more weight on his good shoulder when his hooves touched the ground again. He was in a great deal of pain and never figured out if he hit his mark or not. |

Defense Two: The tobiano sent up a silent 'thanks' to the powers that be when Corr loosed his hold from his own neck. The two stallion were still upright in the air, but, instead of pawing at the red male again and being dangerously close to his bared teeth. Mal simply raised his hooves and legs in an effort to dodge the stallion's mouth. He accomplished not being bitten as Corr rested his full weight back on his four legs again, and the tobiano's front hooves came to the ground with a slight 'thud'. "Well met, Corr. We'll see who won." |

this battling form rather purposefully stolen from Magnanimous. THANKS MAGZ first attacks: Sen + Maleficarum comments: Interesting idea you have here, I like the idea of it. However, it is extremely unlikely that a horse would be able to swing his hindquarters around like so and hope to obtain a tremendous amount of force. When a horse swings towards a person it will understandably know them over, but a horse has to come to almost a complete stop in order to swing its hindquarters like so. So, I like the idea, but the possibility that the swing would do any real damage is unlikely. Also, the swing plus a kick is quite possibly a bit of a double attack, but given the likelihood of the swing doing nothing, I would consider it as him simply pivoting so quickly as to set the other stallion off guard in hopes of landing a good swift kick. originality: 5/5 damage done: 2/5 realism: 1/5 total: 8/15 MC + Corr comments: A very normal place for a stallion to shoot, but painfully lacking in detail. Tell me where his legs are, the way his muscles ripple when he tenses to launch himself forward. Where is he positioned by the time he’s at Maleficarum’s neck and where is he by the time his hooves stop moving? Realistic but again, very lacking in detail. I get no idea of the force behind him or the intensity with which he attacks. Work on really making it detailed, that’s where the hardcore points are in battle! originality: 1/5 damage done: 1/5 realism: 4/5 total: 6/15 ________________________________________________________________________ first defenses Sen + Maleficarum comments: Sort of interesting, I got a definitely mental picture of him rearing up, but you kind of left it open for MC/Corr to decide the damage done. When you say “...but he knew that if he didn't get Corr off of him, he could very well suffer muscle damage in his neck or die in the worst case scenario.” you pretty much leave it wide open for interpretation. When you do defenses/take damage, you tell us the effects of the attack. There is no clear outline as to the damage that was taken aside from bleeding at the neck, thus, the low score on ‘damage done’ here. originality: 3/5 damage done: 1/5 realism: 5/5 total: 9/15 MC + Corr comments: A very realistic/typical avoidance of Maleficarum’s first attack. You took reasonable damage as well, rather an extensive amount of flesh wounds which would be very realistic given the situation, so for that kudos! I like the detail as well, keep it really descriptive I love it! originality: 2/5 damage done: 5/5 realism: 5/5 total: 12/15 ________________________________________________________________________ second attacks Sen + Maleficarum comments: Excellent reaction attack for the way Corr attacked him. Makes good sense and I can really picture this happening. Good detail, but I would have liked to know where he ended up when he was done and what happened with his neck and all. originality: 4/5 damage done: 4/5 realism: 5/5 total: 13/15 MC + Corr comments: A well placed, nasty attack. However, I have to emphasize the need for more detail. I like that he’s showing his favoring his injury in this post, but I’ve no clue really which leg is hurt or which of Mal’s legs he’s going for or what precisely he was hoping to do. Detail, detail. I could picture it, though, so definitely a better described attack than last time. originality: 5/5 damage done: 3/5 realism: 3/5 total: 11/15 ________________________________________________________________________ second defenses Sen + Maleficarum comments: This is definitely a realistic defense and one I could totally see happening. I don’t like that there was absolutely no damage done whatsoever, but it makes sense as well. Don’t forget detail! originality: 3/5 damage done: 0/5 realism: 5/5 total: 8/15 MC + Corr comments: Pretty sure my shoulder hurts along with Corr’s LOL! Excellent damage taken, a realistic way to avoid too much damage. However, I’d have liked to know how this leg/shoulder injury affected the already injured leg. Is it the same leg? The opposite? Remember the detail! Detail is always what will win or lose a battle. originality: 3/5 damage done: 5/5 realism: 3/5 total: 11/15 ________________________________________________________________________ results Sen + Maleficarum comments: Overall, good going with Mal. MC & you could definitely use practice with being super detailed in battles (that’s why they’re some of the biggest muse suckers because detail always makes the difference). The first attack was sort of oddly done, but I liked the originality of it. The second attack was much more realistic. grammar / punctuation / spelling: 5/5 total: 38/65 MC + Corr comments: Excellent taking damage in this round MC. However, it was painfully lacking in detail from you. Sen & you could definitely use practice with being super detailed in battles (that’s why they’re some of the biggest muse suckers because detail always makes the difference). Your attacks were more disappointing due to the detail thing, but your defenses made up for it. grammar / punctuation / spelling: 5/5 total: 40/65 the victor is: MC + CORR! Good job guys! A really excellent battle overall, very close in scoring!!!! |
