It was a typical cold day of winter in Tin Chapel. Snow covered the ground in a thin layer, rolling with the hills. The willow trees were bare, and the creek had frozen over in certain spots. However, spring was just beginning to show signs of its return; it was cold, but not as cold as it once had been. Prime was shining in the sky, and perhaps the sunbeams would begin the process of melting snow. This disappointed Romulus to a certain degree; though the colt was not fond of the cold weather, he had enjoyed playing in the snow with his sister, nephew, and niece.

The colt was not far from his first birthday, and it showed. He had filled out quite nicely so far, though he still had the gangly look of a yearling. He was taller than any of his other siblings at this age; it was obvious he was going to be larger. He was unique to his family; somehow, he had gotten a crimson pelt instead of the typical shade of gray. But he enjoyed standing out in the herd; he didn't want to be like everyone else. Right now he had wandered away from his father, who he spent most of his time with since his mother disappeared. His chocolate brown eyes flickered to the side when the sound of hooves crunching into snow caught his attention. He paused, and turned his starred head to look behind him.

A grin crossed his dark lips as he saw his nephew, Specter, had joined him. The colt was young, at about eight months, and his mother had seemed to have abandoned him as well. Specter stood out against the alabaster snow with his obsidian pelt. The colt looked more like a Arabian than anything else, with his dished head and slight features. But now that he was beginning to fill out, he was in the awkward stage between the balance. His eyes were dark, dark blue, almost black. His markings were just like his uncle's; all he had was a star.

"C'mon, Specs," he called to the younger male. "Let's go to the creek!" Rom's friendly smile stayed plastered on his face as the smaller colt caught up to his uncle, halting beside the older foal. "All right," said Specter, his voice a much higher tenor than his uncle's, with a soft, more gentle edge to it. And with that, the duo set off for the stream. In a few minutes they were there. Romulus headed straight for the water, lowering his dark maw to take a drink from one of the unfrozen spots. Specter lingered behind, not quite sure what to do.

ooc: yesss, my muse is coming back! :D Anyways, this is for the foals. I know I have some other topics up here, but I've been wanting to do something with the kids, and hopefully this will help bring my muse for the adults back. so post your kidlets! Also, I know Antigone hasn't quite brought home Specter, but Jasmine didn't bring Romulus home either, and I've been really wanting to play him, finally.

We have nothing to fear but human stupidity and the squirrels.
The two toned filly was nearly a year old and so she did not spend every waking moment glued to her mother. She liked to explore her vast home and find out all of its wonders. Unlike her older sister she was allowed to wander and didn't have to be constantly schooled. She did not have to live in fear of being traded off like chattel by her father. No her father was nothing like the previous villain that had owned this land. Her mother had told her very little about what had happened before. She didn't let it bother her.

She was standing beside a leafless tree looking out at the lightly snow covered land. It had been warmer than usual. Thus showing signs of the return of spring. She flares her nostrils and takes in the scents around her. Her dark eyes lingered on two smaller shapes running about. The shapes of two colts...one her brother and the other her uncle. To most this situation would seem odd but the young filly liked it this way. She got to get to know her grandfather and play with her uncle. Something most lacked it seemed. She watches her brother for a moment. Knowing her mother resented her a bit for being a girl. Her mother still had ambitions despite living in a Light leaning Neutral herd. But the blue roan mare kept them to herself. She would have to climb to the top somehow.

Mercia watches the two colts run to the frozen stream. She decides to join them. She motions her long mustang legs forward and trots towards the two colts. She halts a few feet away from them. Poor Specter looks perplexed by the frozen water. Romulus has a better grip on what to do. She nickers to them and then turns to the water. She uses a hoof to break a thin piece of ice. She lowers her head to take a quick cold drink. She shivers as the icy water flows down her throat. Raising her head she looks at the colts again. "Hi guys. What are you up to?" She smiles and waits for them to respond....hopefully.

I've not yet begun to defile myself.
C H I M Æ R Ai am the shadow on the moonlit night, filling your dreams to the brim with fright
The blue of her irises glinted in the winter light as she stood quietly, not shivering, in the rays of Prime. She was nearly a year old now, often gone from her mother's gray side. And, while she still sought out her dam's comfort, the dark bay no longer rested with her at night. The tovero filly sauntered forward, aware that she was unusual in the multitudes of gray children of her sire. She was filling out now, no longer the awkward child she had been. The yearling strode forward towards her siblings and relatives, suddenly cautious about being around them. "Hello, Mercia, Specter, Romulus." The filly was hesitant about being close with others. Her mother, Anziyan, had never exactly been the 'herd' type; she rarely settled, but the gray often told the young tovero that she had found where she belonged, and it was with the Phantom, her father. All the filly could really hope for was that she fit into this herd like her mother had seemed to.

The odd duo was not alone for very long. Only moments passed after Romulus had taken his drink when a familiar nicker caught their attention. The red colt flashed his niece a friendly grin as Specter drifted closer, taking the time to get his own drink of the icy water. "Hi guys. What are you up to?" Mercia asked. The chestnut pondered his answer briefly, for he honestly wasn't quite sure himself. "Hey Merce! Eh, nothing really," he finally responded. "Just out to explore and get away from everyone else, I guess." It was the truth; the colt was never apt to lie, and was the type that would tell the truth no matter how much it hurt. Specter, on the other hand, was almost the total opposite of that. The black colt stayed silent, not quite sure what to add, but he didn't want to seem rude.

Moments later, the only other foal that resided in Tin Chapel joined them. Rom wasn't quite sure of his sister; she seemed distant, but not in way Specter was. Nevertheless, he gave her a friendly smile. "Hello, Mercia, Specter, Romulus." Specter dipped his head politely to her, and forced himself to speak this time. "Hello, Chimaera." Romulus let his grin become wider, pleased that his friend had finally spoken up. "Hey, Chima," he greeted his sister, using the nickname he had come up with for her. He backed a little ways away so he could face all his relatives at once. "So, how's everybody doing?"
