The black mare was pacing, waiting for Blaine to catch up. She had been able to cross the strait to the Quarry, granted it was with mild difficulty, but Blaine was taking a little longer. Her mismatched eyes frantically scanned the water; where was he? Her snip-covered maw parted enough for Wrayth to send out a whinny. A contraction came; it took the breath from her, squeezing her lungs until she thought she'd burst. Instinct told her to move and find a safe place, but her heart and mind told her to stay and wait for the pale stallion.

He'd tried to keep up with his....he stumbles over the word--but only because it was so new and unexpected in the young stallion's mind--mate, but somehow her pregnancy had not prevented Wrayth from outpacing him. Perhaps it was that he faintly remembered his own short while spent in the Quarry as a newborn, years ago. Blaine does manage to reach the edge of the water just as he hears her calling out for him, and he answers promptly, not wanting her to be any more agitated than she might already be, especially in her near-birth condition. Once he reaches the other side, he hurries to the mare as quickly as he can get his hooves to go, nuzzling her as gently as he can when he notices her labor pangs. "I'm here, Wrayth. "

The black nuzzled her mate and smiled, supremely glad that he was here with her for the birth of their first child. She definitely did not want to go through this alone. Her mismatched eyes did a once over of the pale equine, and she spoke. "Come on." And so, she picked the pace up to a slow trot, enlarged barrel causing mild discomfort. The black mare soon found a small grove. It was pleasant enough, scattered with small shrubs and various types of saplings. Wrayth proceeded to lay down, carefully and slowly. But, sooner or later, she made it with enough time for the contractions to start coming together. The mare winces, lying her head down so that she could be somewhat comfortable. Within a few minutes, the mare was dripping sweat, her eyes slightly rimmed in white. On the verge of panic, Wrayth looked for Blaine for support.

He follows along at the black mare's heels, hoping she has more of an idea of where specifically to go than he does. The dim newborn memories he had managed to call up were such that there was no familiar landscape for Blaine here. And it seems he is right, Wrayth does know where she's going somehow, despite this being her firstborn as well, for she doesn't take long to locate a private little glade for the business at hand. He watches as she lies down, feeling a touch of guilt in his heart as he sees firsthand what his mate has to endure now. At least he could make it a little easier for her by being at her side during the labor. The stallion's eyes meet hers just as she looks up, panic-stricken. He quickly lowers his muzzle to brush it against her dark cheek, whickering softly to her. "You're doing just fine, my love. You can do this. "

The feeling of her mate's muzzle at her cheek calms the black, not completely, but enough for her to proceed in a better fashion. The labor continues, and Wrayth can feel the foal finishing shifting in her barrel. New pain begins as it starts its journey into the world. The young mare groans and makes the typical cries of pain. Eventually, some long while later, she feels something slip from her. And she inhales suddenly, quickly, like a gasp of sorts, relief at last. "Blaine?" Her voice is weak, weary with the labor. Black ears flick forward lazily, and the mare breathes heavily. Her dark nostrils flare again, searching for some indicator of their foal's gender.

Minutes become hours as he watches and waits, the time passing by impossibly slow. Yet somehow also rapidly, for when he occasionally looks up at the sky, Blaine notes that the sun has progressed far more each time than he expected to see it have moved. He continues to do his best to support Wrayth in her labor, making sure she was always able to see him at her side, murmuring encouragement to the mare. And then at last, their child makes its way fully into the world! The golden stallion can't help but let out a neigh of excitement to see his firstborn, it seemed to be such a miracle to see the foal begin to stir. The stallion carefully ventures the short distance to make sure the foal was breathing easily, relieved to see that there is no sign of problems about the tiny body. It was a daughter, a precious little girl. As gently as he can manage, Blaine nudges the foal in welcome. He hears his mate whisper his name, and his eyes drift from the silvery newborn back to Wrayth's face. "We have a daughter, Wrayth. She's so beautiful...do you have the strength to lift your head to see her? " Returning to the mare's head, he waits to see if she needs his assistance.

The mare let her breathing slow, feeling the sensations of the child stir at her hooves. The filly, still trying to make sense of the new, blurry world before her, lets out a small squeal of surprise. But the form before her nudged her gently, and the filly had no reaction at first. Then, the silver girl reached her velvet muzzle to the form and nudged it back. The sensation caused a giggle to unleash from the newborn. Wrayth smiled at the sound and raised her head slowly. "I think I can manage, dear." The black's mismatched eyes fell on their silver baby, and, immediately, she felt complete. Surely this child and Blaine were her answers as to why she was here. Rather quietly, the black spoke, voice wavering in soft, tearful joy. "She's beautiful."

The sound of his little girl's laughter brings a louder echo from Blaine, for it was the most beautiful noise he'd ever heard, and he can feel his heart swelling with pride. He stands back as his mate finally manages to get her first glimpse of their child, and glimpses the same emotions in Wrayth's expression. The softness of her voice stirs a touch of worry in the stallion, however. "You're alright, aren't you? You're simply tired? " Blaine pauses, then asks yet more questions, curious as a feline. "What should we name her? When you are able to travel, do you want to go to Border Springs, or is there another place you'd prefer to travel to instead?" Another land might be better, if she had welcoming relations elsewhere. Border Springs was a cold place to bring a newborn to, even temporarily. Plus, three stallions tripping over one another.....it was bound to draw eventual ire from Oskar, brothers or no.

The black mare nuzzled the silver filly and began cleaning her. Her warm tongue running over the newborn's coat, massaging her newly useful muscles. The silver girl laughed and wriggled. Wrayth smiled, "Yes, dear, I'm fine. We can go to Border Springs. I'm afraid I don't know where my mother is right now..." Wrayth hadn't seen Kailonee in some long time. The blnketed mare would be surprised at the turn of events for the black mare. "I like the name Janvier." She didn't know where the name had come from. It simply came to her mouth.
