The Queen of Snark (and Procrastination)
|
N E W M O O N && T W I L A ;; The ebony draft mare knew something was wrong. She could sense it in her bones. This was her punishment for betraying her beloved Salador. But she had wanted another child, and her love had not been around. She hadn't seen him in years. The ache in her chest plagued her, and finally she could not handle being alone anymore. So here she was, heavily pregnant, old in age, and she had a sense of foreboding that this would not end well. Her last pregnancy had been fine, but the birth had nearly killed her and her son, who was now an adult. Something told her she would not make out of this one alive. It was her punishment, after all. New Moon sighed, and set off as the first contraction hit her, and searched for a spot to give birth to her child, very aware that these were probably her last few moments alive. She lurched down onto the downy grass, and waited for the contractions to speed up, which meant it was time to push. She wanted about half an hour, and then it was time. Just like last time, the pain was unbearable. She spent hours pushes, but her child would just not come out. She was drenched with sweat, and so tired. She knew she was dying. The life was draining out of her. But she could not let her child die. Her foal had to survive! With a loud, anguished scream, she gave one final push, and the foal slid clean from her body. She lay there, panting, drained of all energy. It was only a matter of time before she died. ooc: Sen has permission to post Treagan here! |

The pair had been in the Quarry since the white filly's birth weeks ago. Treagan had felt, for some reason, that she had to stay here. The screams and groans of mares in labor was not uncommon in the land because that's what it was for. But this mare's labor was different. The black-patched Vanner mare approached the lying mare, turning her head to the white filly at her side to stay. The mare was finicky about leaving the special child, but this mare needed help. With her head lowered, the Vanner approached. "Miss, my name is Treagan. Are you alright?" The white filly took a few hesitant steps forward, and, while Treagan wished for her filly to be close, she couldn't let her near quite yet. The mother whickered to her daughter, gazing pleading. And the white foal planted her hooves. Treagan nudged the mare reassuringly. "You will alright, my friend. You have a beautiful daughter." |

N E W M O O N && T W I L A ;; Moon didn't even have the energy to flinch as hoof beats sounded, announcing the approach of a equine. Her mismatched eyes flickered up, just barely, to see a black and white Vanner mare. "Miss, my name is Treagan. Are you alright?" The draft mare couldn't respond, not yet anyways. She was slowly fading, her whole body wracked with pain. Suddenly, the mare whickered, turning her head to gaze pleadingly at someone Moon could not see. Then the mare, Treagan, nudged her reassuringly. "You will be alright, my friend. You have a beautiful daughter." Somehow, she was able to smile, though it was a tired, pained one. She had a daughter! The said filly began to stir, but the foal had been worn out for the birth, and she could not stand. Moon longed to see her daughter, but she knew her time was waning. "No... It... is... my time..." Her voice faded out once, but she forced herself to hang on. "I'm... New Moon... Please take... care of my daughter..." She barely spat out her last words. "Her name is... Twila... Her sire is... Alaric..." And then she had spent her last bit of energy. Her breathing slowed, and then she was no more. The buckskin tobiano filly let out a weak cry as she tried to stagger to her feet. |

The black-splashed mare's auds flicked back slightly, sensing the direness of the comrade's situation. The filly she had just spoken of stirred, trying to stand the mare guessed. Her dark eyes flickered back to the mare, who should have been trying to take care of her filly by now. The mare spoke, and Treagan felt sorry for the mare. Wait, what would happen to the foal? The mare spoke again, breathing her last. Treagan nodded solemnly at the mare's request; she would take care of the foal. The Vanner mare engraved the mare's name to memory, shedding a small tear as the mare died. The Vanner mare nuzzled the small newborn, setting to clean her as her mother's instincts took over. Twila...I wonder if it's short for something." Treagan looked over at her white colored daughter, whose eyes were glued to the dead mare. Treagan nickered for her to come close. "Don't think about it, my dear. You have a half-sister. Her name is Twila." Briar watched the filly silently with her dark eyes. Treagan nudged the newborn gently so that she could nurse. |

T W I L A ;; The filly relaxed as the strange mare began to clean her. She was tired, confused, and very hungry. The mare nudged her, and she started to stand. It took her a couple of tries, and once she stood, she wobbled, almost stumbling. She fumbled toward Treagan, searching for where to nurse. Finally, she found the spot, and suckled greedily. Then, exhausted, she collapsed at Treagan's feet. Her pale blue eyes drooped, and she started to doze off, completely unaware that her mother had died bringing her to life. ooc: so what now? |

Treagan sighed at the feeling of a nursing foal. The fillies would have to learn to share in the process of her caring for them. The mare started as Twila stumbled slightly, but the filly soon collapsed at her hooves, dozing off. Treagan's dark optics swooped pitifully over the newborn. The poor thing. Briar continued to stare at the new foal. Would she still have her mother's attention now? Treagan stepped back slightly to nuzzle her daughter, but the white filly flinched away, taking a few paces away to lay down facing in the opposite direction. The filly's actions stung the Vanner in a new way. Surely Briar would understand one day. |
