We have nothing to fear but human stupidity and the squirrels.

The blue roan Nokota walked towards the Quarry. This being her second journey here she was a little more prepared for waht lie ahead. Her swollen barrel ached for she was late. She had lingered in Tin Chapel far to long. She was liking being there in peace. She liked almost loved the stallion whose foal she was carrying. For now on life would be good. Almost perfect. Perfect would be if Valora were here. She wished her daughter had waited one more day and then the need to runaway would have been moot. She prayed that Valora never saw her father. She did not know what that brute would do to the filly. Sighing she continues through the grounds. Mares could be heard in the throes of labor through out. She wanted to find a better place than where Valora was born. A contraction brings her out of her deep thoughts. She had to go quick. This foal was late as it was and now it couldn't wait to get out. She hoped that this was a colt she was carrying. Though Shadow did not seem like the kind of stallion that cared either way. But still she wanted to show up with a colt and really impress him. Though Phantom had mentioned that his line was prone to fillies. Another contraction and she begins to look for a place in earnest. Finding a spot a ways off under a great willow tree whose feathery branches provided privacy. She walks quickly toward it hoping it wasn't taken. Poking her nose in she see no one but a family of rabbits. A harsh whinny sends them on their way. She smiles and settles on the soft grass. For a while she lies on her side letting the contractions ravage her small body. She doesn't cry out this time. The last time it had been difficult for Valora was a large foal. She rolls upright and raises to her feet. Pacing for a while contractions come quicker and quicker. She lies down again and begins to push. It doesn't not last that long before the last part of the foal slides from her body. She lies panting for a moment before rising to her feet again. She begins to clean her newest foal...realizing ot her disappointment that this was a filly. Oh well. Shadow will like her. Her coloring was very unusual however she was black and white and looked nothing like her parents. Oh dear. Shadow isn't going to believe this is his child. This was her punishment. She turns to walk away. The filly starts rising to her spindly legs. She bleets as her mother walks away. Indigo stares out of the willow branches and sighs. Turning back to the filly who was already on her feet swaying unsure. The filly takes a step towards her and Indigo allows the filly to nurse. She knew in her heart that this was indeed Shadow's daughter. She was in control of how this filly came out. The two linger under the willow for a few days before she decides to return home. Looking at the filly. "Come now Mercia. It is time to return home." And with that they return home. |
