The blue roan mare's barrel was heavily swollen due to the weight of her first foal. She was a couple weeks overdue, and the stress of the weight was taking its toll on her weak legs. She would be glad when she was able to move around again without pain torturing her with every step. She barely made it inside the foaling quarry, labor pains adding to that from which she already suffered, before her exhausted body collapsed on the saltgrass. She cried out as the pains grew worse, calling out for her mother to help her. Of course those words were useless for her mother had been dead a long time. Tears of pain fell from her eyes as all she could do was push the foal out of her, which seemed to the new mother like an eternity. She pushed and pushed until she couldnt do anymore, and just in time as the foal slid out of her. She lay her head in the soft grass, resting for a moment before forcing herself to her feet. As she cleaned the foal, she found it to be a filly and smiled. She was lovely, a dunskin beauty. She backed away as the foal clambered to her feet and took her first shakey steps towards her dam and began to nurse. You shall be called Adrianne. The mare looked in awe at her first child, her daughter as she nursed hungrily and laid back down and fell fast asleep. Asteria lay beside the newborn and kept watch over her for the next few days, teaching her basic survival before they set out for their new home.
