Finally the time had come. No more waiting, second guessing, or allowing doubts to fester. Within just a few hours, Viral felt confident that he would once again hold the Province as his own again without any further taint from his greatest opponent or his worthless brood. His mares would once again have a safe home to come back to, to raise his children in without fear that the overlord would take a fancy to chasing them away. The handsome figure of Viral, in his prime at eight years old, moves with a purpose through the battlegrounds. It is evident, even in this short trek, that he is a descendant of Chronic, possessing the same fluid feline grace that had become synonymous with the great pinto’s name. Even his sire’s solid muscling was recognizable on the slightly more elegant planes courtesy of his mother’s influence. Gone was the lankiness of his youth, the awkward proportions; in their stead was a magnificent piece of horseflesh made ever more noticeable by the white markings that stood out vividly against the dry land that was the Battlegrounds in Winter. When the chestnut stallion found the place that he had lost to Friction, faint remnants of their scuffle still visible, he finally halts and whistles for Orion. No more hiding. No more avoiding this battle. Young and abandoned or not, it was time for the show to get on the road. When the time seemed right, Viral listed his terms, keeping them fairly simple considering Orion had not been the mastermind behind this; to this point his behavior all pointed to a young colt given too much responsibility too fast. “Orion, I’m going to give you a choice. Since your father has handed you this responsibility, you have done nothing but hide; you and I both know you are not ready for this and it was unfair of him to foist it upon you.” While he talks, the chestnut’s mismatched eyes are roving for any sight of the younger male. “So, your choice. Forfeit the fight today, return the Province and it’s inhabitants to my care, and when you are ready, you may come back to the Southern Mainland and I will guarantee you a territory of your own and an alliance with myself and Rowan. You can even maintain an alliance with your sire, if it suits you.” Viral’s pale lips press together in an expression that is not quite a frown, although the prospect of being an ally to a stallion that is partners with his greatest enemy is not appealing. “If you prefer to battle, my terms are that you will remove yourself from Serpent’s Province, and off of the Southern Mainland. My mares, and your father’s mare, your mother, handed down to you with the territory, will become mine.” In all honesty, Viral would very much like Katina to become his one way or another, but he sorely doubted that Orion would be willing to make a deal that willingly traded his mother to another stallion. Sacrifices had to be made, and as long as Viral was able to rescue his child from Katina's care after it was born, all would be well. After a long pause, the chestnut finally concludes his terms with a grimace spreading across his face. “The choice should be a fairly simple one to make, Orion.” ooc: I can't wait any longer kayleigh <3 and if the terms don't suit you but you want to avoid a battle, you could always fight the terms next time or just not take him up on the offer |

WELL SWEET MOTHER TERESA ON THE HOOD OF A MERCEDES BENZ
|
He had dreaded this day, but it was inescapable. It had only been a matter of time before Viral’s wounds healed and he challenged again. So the bay’s heart was heavy as he slunk into the battle grounds to meet his chestnut opposition. The finely contoured lines of his five year old body were visible under his thick winter coat, although so were the scars on his hind half where Caius had struck him all those seasons ago. His ear too, still attached to his head, flopped uselessly, the new skin sooty in hue where it had repaired itself in the past year. It’s movements were limited, as was it’s reception. It was a handicap, and one that Orion was painfully aware of. He had reached a point in his life where he wasn’t entirely sure what he was doing anymore. The task of restoring the Faults back to Ares had been completed. Thane had disappeared, so he was in essence dealt with too. The bay had nothing against the older horse, after all he was his own grandsire; it was more the threat that their line could be usurped whenever the grey was around, by installing one of his other numerous heirs. And for a while it seemed like his parent’s dream of conquering Viral and the Province had been realised too. But all this political business almost bored Orion. Ares was definitely more politically minded out of the too, Orion preferred to throw his weight around in a battle and let things settle that way. This was Viral though, notorious for winning. His own sire had only done it once, and like every son, Orion felt a bias towards Friction’s talents. So it was with a pensieve outlook he stalked towards the older stallion, halting the usual distance away from Viral and fixed him with his dark eyes. Like Katina, he was powerfully built, but this didn’t mean the bay fancied his chances any more against Viral. His ears, the deformed one pricking forwards as much as it can, he listened to what the other male had to say. He pursed his charcoal lips, his tail switching round his hindquarters in what is obvious irritation. If at all possible, he didn’t want to fight Viral. Having been beaten by his son the last time, it would only add to his embarrassment. Plus, it would be quite a cosy little number, being given not only a territory, but an alliance with the chestnut too, with the prospect of being able to keep his old allies going. Being almost a double agent was very appealing, even if he was to work with a horse he had been told was his enemy his entire life. His father wouldn’t be too pleased if he ever did return, but then again, he wouldn’t have to know. Some elaborate alibi should keep his mouth shut, and he could always challenge for the Province again. The only problem was his dam. He knew Katina was heavily pregnant with Viral’s child, it made sense for her to stay in the Province, at least until the foal was weaned. After all, now that his father had gone, she was free property, and one that many a stallion would like to own. Plus many a Dark, or a true Dark anyway, would happily dispose of a foal that wasn’t theirs, especially if it was one with Viral as it’s sire. As much as he disliked the idea of his own mother being handed to a stallion she loathed, particularly if it was her own son doing it, she had left him with very limited options. He himself had no land, she would refuse to go back to the Faults, or cast her and her child out into the homeless where any old body could get her. After a heavy pause, the bay spoke. “Your offer is a decent one Viral. Of course, I cannot promise how Friction will react when he returns, nor can I guarantee that my mother will not cause some kind of stir when she finds out, but she will pay the price. I accept your offer, I will await confirmation of which land will be mine, and the Province and everything that is in it is yours.” Feeling momentarily smug with his speech, he waits for an answer. |

Conquering an enemy took more than a single battle. The war was not won until the opposition had completely fallen and had no ability to strike back. The only dark stallions that could be called conquered, even for the moment, were Thane and Chronic and Morte; and it wasn’t as though any particular stallion had done the honors for the gray or bay. Nature and the sands of time had done the dark race those favors and threatened to do the same with other lax stallions, such as Friction. And Chronic? Well. We all know who took care of Chronic, even if the reasons were not usually known to the general populace. Viral had long ago decided that he would never allow himself to be conquered, and to this decision he had always been true. Not even his loss to Friction, the greatest blow to his confidence, had shaken his innate desire to create a legacy that was far greater than any existing on Kormada to date. But these thoughts are not forefront in his mind as the younger bay settled himself in front of Viral, blank faced but tail twitching in irritation. Rather, he is curious to see what Orion will demand, if anything, and how he will react to his father’s enemy laying such a sweet deal down in front of him. If he were to be honest, Viral would acknowledge that he was all but lying through his teeth; a son of Friction could be a valuable ally, but it also could be a huge mistake and a waste of his time. It would be easy for a male, if he stayed close to his sire, to play a double agent. Still, Viral mused as he watched the colt from cold eyes, it was likely he and Rowan would be able to catch him before much damage had been done. After all, he would be shacking up on the Southern Mainland, close to where the Province was to begin with. Caius wouldn’t necessarily like the change - with Orion going from enemy to friend - but he would simply have to live with it. When the bay begins speaking, Viral is fairly certain that he will accept the offer. His tone is not that of a stallion that will continue the challenge, and so he settles back slightly to listen to the counter-terms that Orion decided to throw his way, after the warnings of Friction’s coming reacion. Did Orion really think Viral was expecting him to be happy upon return? To find out his son had handed the territory back, become allies with Viral, and see his mare if not pregnant, than raising Viral’s child. However, instead of demanding something, anything, really, the bay simply takes the terms that Viral has offered and also throws his mother into the package deal. Everything in the Province was now his? Yeah. That meant Katina too. A grin twitched on the very corners of his lips before he spoke again, having prepared for this outcome despite the last minute preparations. “Wise choice. Your sire’s old land of Canary Carnage or the Celestial Docks, your pick.” The bachelors in the Docks would have to move, but that wouldn’t be much of a problem. They were pretty loose to begin with, if they hadn’t disbanded already. Viral is also amused by the thought of Orion being given his father’s old home, although he doesn’t let this show in his face. Imagine that. A few pretty words and the world was not only right side up again, but right side up with Viral at the helm. |
