Sniper One

December 20th 2009, East Coast of Somalia. A large scale coordinated Pirate hijacking organised by local Al-Qaeda of an empty cruise ship causes worldwide shock. The 100 or so crewmen onboard are all taken back to the mainland and the cruise ship held for ransom. The NATO Task Force in the region responds with deadly force and the cruise ship is liberated without NATO losses. However, some of the crew are killed off by Al-Qaeda cells before Special Forces can get to them. The international community decides to act. The Vienna Agreement establishes a new Somali government and constitution, with the help from the former Somali government. With a United Nations mandate passing the Security council, an African Union led force is created: the International Somali Security Force (ISSF) NATO sends a large contribution alongside Russia and several other countries. With NATO forces gathering in Djibouti and a large Joint Kenyan-Ethiopian force ready for an offensive, the Al-Qaeda cells and war lords prepare for the coming conflict.

Just over a month later, the ISFF has ground to a halt, with most of the African forces bogged down trying to keep what little order there is in the cities, while Task Force Neptune made up of NATO and other other european countries goes on search on destroy missions, taking on the enemy in their backyard. The 1st Battlegroup of Task Force Neptune, the main strike battlegroup, has set up Camp Omaha just outside Baydhabo where the small Airport used to be converting it into a large FOB with a heliport. The runway although usuable for re-supply flights is not able to be used as a constant runway and so ground attack aircraft have to come in from an aircraft carrier off the coast. They have one Air Assault company which has a flight of 4 utility helicopters, apart from that the only real fire support comes from the FSG company who have a platoon of mortars and a Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) mobile artillery piece. While they are self sufficient they struggle to keep up with the daily opeations and the fight for Somalia, seems to look like it is becoming a fight for survival.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right this is how it will work. Their shall be a Battlegroup Commander, played by me who will decide before each battle what assets you will be receiving. It may be that of some F-18 support from the aircraft carrier or more likely that the FSG company (controlled by me), will be able to provide long range support. I, as the BC, will tell each Company Commander controlled by you, what your role is for each mission or time period. These may be things as simple as patrolling the area and Badyhabo for the evening, or going on taskings, when we will have received intelligence reports that say an Al Qaeda commander is hiding in a certain area and i will send certain companies to try and take out or capture.

Combat will be like Domination and WWR, although obviously on a smaller scale. You must roll for everything you do that is tactical or involves the enemy, such as moving stealthily in the town or trying to spot where the enemy are firing from. Two main rules: No huge casualties without a proper reason and no huge enemy casualties unless there is a massive operation. Apart from that feel free to start roleplaying around the base and I will start issuing missions soon.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Map will be up soon.

Unti List:

-HQ (FSG Company): Lt. Colonel John Simpson - Path
-Nighthawk Squadron (F-18 Squadron): Major Jackson - DNA

-Alpha Company (Armoured): Major Heffen - Andcus
-Bravo Recon Platoon (Light Infantry): Major Kruger - Neil
-Charlie Company (Light Infantry): Major Hudson - Cipher
-Delta Company (Special Forces): Major Turney - Finn
-Echo Company (Air Assault Infantry): Major Rotsdam - Wiiper
-Foxtrot Company (Light Infantry): Major Stewart - Wookie

Have fun.

Major Heffen walked out of his tent, his eyes closing as a natural reaction to the strong Somali sun. Heffen smiled as he pulled out his sunglasses and was rewarded a few seconds later as they came on. He took in the sight of Alpha Company's side of the camp.

Troopers walked all around, some mildly chatting others more determined. In the middle of all the Danish tents stood Dannebrog and swayed in the air, under that the Heraldry of II Company. The Crown being clearly visible in front of two sabres. The insignia of a Danish Guard Company.

All of these men were Panser Infantry, or Pinf's for short. They were specially trained to work in close connection with armour and excelled in manoeuvre warfare and long range strike missions. Other than that, they were also Royal Guardsmen. Trained for 4 months in how to set up proper defences and handle missions in the city. The Pinf's of the Royal Guard were hard hitting SOB's. They were the heavy infantry. The ones you called in when you wanted a heavily fortified area taken, and not claimed again any time soon.

They had proven that to NATO in Afghanistan and Iraq. In Afghanistan they had been the one's who had taken the key Taliban strongholds, letting the British and remaining Danes move in through the holes they punched. In Iraq they had taken heavy hits. Heffer had been in Al-Harta. They had lost an M113 to an IED and had to fall back into the town as the insurgents rained hell down on them. For 7 hours they sat there in some small houses, being suppressed by AK and RPG fire. Finally the Danish QRF arrived with British support arrived, and they were extracted. With 1 killed and 5 heavily wounded. 2 of those would never walk again.

But the difference from Somalia and Iraq/Afghanistan was that they were better equipped this time. In Iraq/Afghanistan they had had the M113. A nasty old lady, but prone to malfunctions and vulnerable to IED's. And its armament hadn't been enough. A 50. Calibre in a turret wasn't saving anyone. And for once the Army Operational Command had surprised Heffer. They had listened to the troops.

The Major arrived at the vehicle pit and he saw them immediately.
The CV9035 was a heavy upgrade from the M113's they had been used to work with. A fast and powerful vehicle. The 35mm bushmaster autocannon could mess anything up. And for any light infantry targets they used the 7.62 Browning.
The floor was specially designed to bend under pressure, deflecting the majority of the impact from an IED, the 7 troops inside sat with their feet up under the seats in front of them to avoid spraining an ankle during the explosion.
The CV90 was also heavily armoured on the sides, able to take several RPG hits, and Heffer liked this the most; it had special built armour on the top, deflecting RPG rounds from above. It was a real Urban warfare machine.

The crew of 3 each had thermal and NVG scopes, and the commander had a command and control pad, linking him up with the other vehicles and infantry squads on platoon and company level. The gunner was in command of a munitions detector, an automatic computer that could compensate for heavy terrain making the vehicle shake, thereby making the CV90 able to hit a target 2000 metres away, meanwhile driving at top speed of 70 kilometres an hour.
The gunner and commander could also access a short range radar, which could feed them information about the airspace above them, making the 35mm cannon able to engage helicopters and low flying aircraft.

The troops inside could carry their entire kit, including tent and supplies, with them on missions, giving the entire company a strike range of 350 kilometres. Missions with the CV90 could last half a week before they would have to be resupplied.

Heffer arrived at his own IFV.
Painted on the desert camo side, was the line: "A furore Normannorum libera nos, Domine"

It was allegedly an old prayer used by people in Britain, France and Portugal.
His SIC, Lieutenant Hyldig had grinned when it had been painted on back in Djibouti. "Very fitting Major, very fitting"

From the fury of the Northmen deliver us, O Lord

Captain Gordon Kruger
USMC 1st Recon
Checkpoint Zulu
18:00
------------------------------------------

"Sir" Sgt. Blackbird (Bird) saluted and then held up his Vector 21 bino's " We need batteries for these and our NVG's

"Your a Marine, You want logistics join the army Marines make do." he passed over a small box to the Sgt "I'll get onto HQ about getting more for us."

The sun was setting and casting an orange glow over the dust as it blew lightly across the road,

A sniper round hit the road sign just meters from the Captains head, This was quickly followed by the sound of Lcpl. Rodney (Sharp) firing his M24 the shot echo'ed in the empty air.

"Hit yeah he's not got any head anymore whooo!" his spotter shouted scanning for more targets. At 6ft 7 Kruger was an easy target for a sniper that could actually shoot.

"You using me for bait Corpral?" Kruger grabbed him by the shirt and hauled the Lcpl to his feet "Youre lucky Sammies cant shoot for shit, but good shot warn me next time please" He let him go as Kruger walked back over to his HMMWV "Switch Raven onto the road these guys need some sleep"

Lt. Colonel Simpson
1st Battlegroup, Task Force Neptune
Camp Omaha, Somalia

"Welcome to another day in paradise gentlemen," Simpson exclaimed as he strode into the Ops Room. He had that beaming smile that he seemed to have permanently stretched across his face, his happy aura managed to land him the affectionate knickname of Smiley Simpson from his support staff in HQ company.

The Battlegroup had been there for just over a month by now and they had settled into a good working structure, with everyone knowing there roles, superiors and operating procedures. Luckily there had only been a few casualties since the invasion and only 2 of those had been KIA. Two young troopers in the infantry that had got caught in a nasty ambush in the city. Simpson had responded to that with his typical calm attitude to war. He carried on doing what he had been. If he had gone more agressive it would have simply resulted in the locals being even more anti-ISSF and if he had stopped patrolling the city it would have allowed the militia to dominate the area. It was a typical Simpson tactic, not to allow the enemy to provoke him into change. He'd known some other commanders in Afghanistan like an American by the name of Asher who responded with supreme agression to any casualties to his company, but in Simpson's opinion. That wasn't the british way to do it. He enjoyed having the british company from the Special Forces and the FSG company, which was made up of a mortar platoon from the grenadier guards and a GMLRS battery from the Royal Artillery.

Simpson sat down at his desk and prepared himself for another long day in Somalia.

If there ever was a short day in Somalia...
