Major Vaughn, 22nd SAS
Still sweating it out with the Commander

"Well sir. right away. I suppose if you give us 24 hours respite we can be ready straight after. It means the men off ill will have a chance to recover." grinned Vaughn.

Whilst they were talking, millions of thoughts rushed through Vaughns mind.

Why so soon? Why are we needed again? What are the exosets going to do?

Nothing really prepared him for the eventual use of the exosets.

General Asher
Prince of Wales
Scheming in the Ops Room

"Well let's put it this way... If said missiles were not on the Falklands and were actually on Argentine mainland... It would be to our advantage if they were destroyed in some kind of horrific accident... Of course our government could never officialy recognise such an invasion of their homeland as it would cause reprisals from South America... I mean this is totally hypothetical as they may be on the Falklands which would be well within our RoE... However, if said accident were needed... I think your men would be needed... Hypothetically you understand," Asher smiled cunningly.

"Do you see what I am saying?"

Major Vaughn, 22nd SAS
Really sweating in the Command centre

"So basically in a not so hypothetical tone. You want us to infiltrate Argentina and blow up all the exosets which have a high probability that they have been moved to the Falklands." said Vaughn bluntly.

The Commander visibly winced at Vaughn's blunt words.

"Well. I'm sure i can do something for you sir." grinned Vaughn.

This is so Winter's job.

General Asher

Worried in the Ops Room

"Well yes, something along those lines. I know this isn't what you like doing Major. Your file suggests your men preferring to be in the thick of it. However, if you prove your worth in this mission then there will be many rewards for you and your men," Asher chuckled.

Vaughn raised an eyebrow.

"Are you trying to bribe me sir?"

"Of course not Major," Asher said semi-seriously. "However, you must understand that if you do not complete this mission it could put the whole war effort at risk. Now unless there is anything else you are dismissed. Have your team ready in 24 hours, however many men you think you'll need. Depending on what the Argentine Colonel has told us by then. We'll decide our next course of action. Understood?"

Captain Lee

1300 hours

South Georgia

45 Commando and the civvies were gathered around the 2 freshly placed graves just outside the town. Pvt.Santi, a Fijian and Sgt.Howath would forever lie here on this desolate, cold, wind-swept island. The Last Post was played and the Priest gave the last rights. There were some tears amongst the men and the civilians.About 20 meters away lay 24 body bags in neat rows. The Argies.

Fucking bastards thought Lee to himself. After the initial celebration of having regained control of the town they had heard the news of the massacre. The civilians and his men had yet to find out, but it would soon be the in the headlines. He was sure of it.

After the funeral service, Lee ordered his men to keep watch on the parameter. The battle was still going on for C Company- word was that they had taken far heavier casualties. But the reports were sketchy from this part of the island. South Georgia still wasn't fully under British control- there could be plenty of Argies still hiding out in those mountains. Not that they would survive the weather for long. Still, better safe then sorry.

Lieutenant Henderson
Charlie Company
Stromness, South Georgia

------------------------------------------------

"Major Clayton. Good to see you sir," grinned the Lt. shaking hands with him.

"Well I'm just glad to see you in one piece, I've been tearing my hair out in the ops room on the Tonerre since this Op started. I see you took some casualties though," said Clayton grimly.

"Yes, Sergeant Prior and LCpl Filton both went back on the chopper you and 1st Platoon came in on. I hope he makes it," muttered Henderson. "Then there were the two dead marines... one of them was 18..."

"Don't worry Patrick. I'm sure he'll be fine and there was nothing you could do about those two marines. The Lt. Colonel sends his congratulations and he'll be arriving with HQ Company later today. I think he's basing at Bravo Company's location, so we probably won't see him today," explained Clayton.

"Looks like we're going to be here for the war then, doesn't it sir?"

"Well, don't you get down heartened. I have my sources and a little bird tells me, a transport ship is heading from ascension with 4 Battalion the Rifles aboard. I think we'll be in the invasion force, don't worry Lieutenant," he winked. "Now you go and get your head down, get a couple of hours kip. You've had a long day."

"Very well sir," Henderson said and after saluting walked off to another building in the town where he laid down, and tried to get some sleep, but he just couldn't. The image of those civilians lying massacred had been imprinted in his mind, and he just lay there, trying to push them out of his mind; but the dead haunted him.

Major General Carleton
On board the HMS Ocean
Command Room
1330 hours

Carleton had received word that South Georgia was firmly under British control about 15 minutes ago. He had also received word of the 11 dead Marines, most of whom were from C Coy, plus another 17 wounded, 6 of which were in a critical state. And, to top it off, he had received word of the Stromness Massacre. It hadn't even been an hour since he had heard the news, and already the journo's were all over it. As far as they were concerned, this was headline gold. He could just imagine the papers the next day:

'Massacre at Stromness!!' and 'Evil Argies show true colours!!'

Still, the incident had one positive outcome. It added some resolve and focus to the mission. This was no longer a pointless war in a faraway land, it was a war to protect British citizens from a brutal regime.

Carleton had also had word that the Special forces succeeded in their mission to capture the oil rigs intact, although the Pathfinders had taken heavy casualties.

He sat back. So far so good. It was a propaganda victory if nothing else. The operations had gone according to plan and now it was just the Falkland Islands to worry about. Or at least that is what he was thinking until he heard word that the Argies had gotten a hold of 10 Exocet Missiles....

Major Vaughn, 22nd SAS (Infiltration team.)
HMS Albion flight deck.
Preparing for a routine smash and destroy mission

Major Vaughn watched his hand picked team of Spec ops enter the Chinook. 2 squads of hard core troopers. In his squad:
Sgt Stamford
SSgt Watson
Cpl Blenner
L Cpl Dickens
Pvt. Jake

In the other squad was:
Leader: Cpt Winters
Sgt Jackson
Cpl jones
Pvt. Calipso

The plan was simple. Land in Argentina where the exosets were supposedly stored, mark them, and finally destroy them. Winters 'Ghost' squad was to provide sniper fire whilst Vaughn's squad assaulted the targets directly.
Intelligence suggested that they try the Argentinan base 50 miles out from the capital. Agents apparently said that half of the exosets were there. The others were already set up in the Falklands.

Sometimes I hate highcommand. mused Vaughn.

Major General Carleton
On board the HMS Ocean
Command Room

Carleton had been right about the headlines. It was the day after the Stromness Massacre and already UN inspectors were on their way to South Georgia. A bloody nuisance as far as Carleton was concerned- couldn't they see there was still a war on?

More then anything Carleton wanted to get off this tin can that he had been floating in for just over a week. He felt all the more vulnerable now that intel had shown the Argies had plenty of missiles capable of blowing the HMS Ocean, or any other ship in the task force, sky-high.

That was why the SAS were on-route to the Argentine mainland. It was a very risky op- they would be landing in the middle of Argentina, trying not to alert the thousands of soldiers scattered all around the capital, they would then sneak into a base, blow up everything of worth, then fight their way back to the RV where they would be flown back past the Argentinian Air Force and SAM sites, and, hopefully, safely back to the fleet. Failing that, they would be walking to Chile- one of the few countries left in South America supporting us this war.

Carleton would be surprised to see any of them return home.

But it was out of his hands now. He had a new assignment for the Pathfinders. They were to do some advanced recon in and around San Carlos where the invasion was to take place. If everything went smoothly they wouldn't need to make any noise.

"Yes Lt. Colonel, you'll have the Bismarck and Ambush escorting you to the island. Then you're Battalion will take up the positions in the towns and re-fortify them... Yes the attached RAF squadron will set up the Rapier air defence around the towns and you'll be perfectly safe from air attack... Supplies will be delivered on a weekly basis but of course we're hoping we wont be here that long... Very good and remember to thank the Marines... They didn't half fight hard for that island. Goodbye."

Asher ended the connection and put the radio set down, he'd just been on the radio to 4 Rifles who were shipping in to become the new occupying force for South Georgia, allowing the Marines to get back to the ships. He didn't underestimate the Rifles combat ability, but the invasion needed to be performed by crack troops and who better than the elite Marines, who specialised for these kind of naval assaults. The Ops Officer turned to him.

"Sir, the Pathfinders are on route now," he said.

"Very good, keep a radio channel open with them."
