(Note: The last post was edited, but only because I forgot to include the last three oil rigs) "No more casualties sir," reported one of the Ops Officers. "They've also got 7 enemy prisoners and some intel." "Very good. Signal the Merlins, they're good for evac. Have the medics aboard Albion ready for any wounded and pass the message that Major Vaughn is to report to me once he has got himself cleaned up and his team are sorted out." "Right away sir," he replied and began talking to the Merlin pilots. Asher sighed with relief, the operation was a success and that could only be a good sign for the rest of the war. Soon the Special Forces would be back home and safe, as long as the Argentine Air Force didn't make an appearance... |

Lieutenant Henderson 3rd Platoon C Company 45 Commando Flight Deck of Tonnerre Henderson was squashed into the back of the Merlin Transport helicopter, along with the 49 other men from 2nd and 3rd platoon. They were about to take Stromness, while A Company took Husvik and B Company took Grytviken. It was the first op of the war for the Marines and Henderson felt honoured to be taking part in it. There was a rumor that the marines had been chosen over the Paras, because the General was ex .42 Commando in Afghanistan; he had a fierce reputation from that campaign. They would be going in with minimal support and only the German Frigate on call if anything went wrong, even then the weather would prevent most fire support being accurate. "Standby for take-off. Mike 1... 2... 3... off the deck. ETA to drop zone 30 minutes." |

Captain Lee 1st Platoon B Company 45 Commando En Route to South Georgia Captain Lee looked out the little window next to him and saw the other two Merlin's flying close by. Soon they would split off to the three main objectives. "ETA 20 minutes!!" screamed the Co-Pilot. The choppers scattered, they were on their own. Lee had been over this Op several times with 1st and 2nd Platoon and they all knew exactly what to do. They also knew it was a very risky operation. Even if the Merlin's did manage to land without a hitch, they would be stranded on a freezing cold island in the middle of an ocean with very limited air or artillery support. Reinforcements would not be able to arrive overland at any particular speed due to the mountainous terrain, and the Argies would be nicely dug in. Simply put, on touchdown they were by themselves. He looked around the faces of his men. He had served with most of them in Afghanistan, but there was also a good deal of new guys. This would be their first time in combat. But they were Marines all the same, and he had full confidence in them. Everyone was quiet, mentally preparing themselves for the task ahead. He sweated in the back of the Merlin despite the cold weather. "5 Minutes!!!!" went the call. He took a deep breath and got ready. Edited by Finn 1939, Oct 31 2009, 07:34 PM.

"Touchdown in 60 seconds!" Henderson turned to the rest of the Marines. "1 MINUTE!!!!" He screamed over the defeaning roar of the blades. Less than a minute later the Merlin vibrated as it hit the soft ground and then the RAF Loadie, dropped the rear door and the marines burst out the door, all running around 20 feet before hitting the deck and panning out in an all round defense. They scanned the horizon with their weapons, trying to control their breathing considering the freezing temperatures and the blowing gale of the helicopter down draft. The snipers checked how many enemy were in sight. 1-3: 15. 4-6: 25. 7-9: 45. 10: 60 You rolled a: 3! |
