"Affirmative Widow 55.JDAM strike imbound at PAPA-OSCAR-SEVEN-NINER-BRAVO."

The F-35's were flying at full afterburner to strike the D-20's at the grid co-ordinates provided. The strike had to be done precisely, otherwise lives would be lost.

"Target aquired........JDAMS away!"

1-3: The infantry around the D-30's are unhurt mainly, and one of the D-30's is fully operational still.
4-7: Half the infantry are killed and 1 D-30 is operational but with limited range.
8-10: All targets are destroyed.

Major Bennet
CO of B Company, 42 Commando
San Carlos Beachhead

----------------------------------------------

Major Bennet looked through his binos, scanning the beach to see where all his men were. All the MG nests had been taken and now men were gathered round them, resting before the push over the hill and towards the town. In total the force had taken 36 casualties with 19 of those being KIA and the rest being wounded, however most were in critical conditions. The Argies were not going to give up San Carlos without a fight. Intel suggested there was around 100 enemy in the town, along with some armor. Now that the D-30's were down, they could start to bring in the rest of 42 Commando on the LCU's.

"Mistral, this is Puma 6. Beachead is secured, bring them in."

Tactical officer and resident idiot. Little FTW!

Major Brooklaw, 13th SBS.
San Carlos beachhead.
Swearing his head off.

"Sir. Please calm down. Your scaring the Commando's." whispered a trooper.

The Major had been in a fit of worry about Major Vaughn and had exploded when he heard that his forces would be deployed in the second wave to 'SUPPORT' the commandos. He'd been raving all the way to the beach head.

Support. The cheeky bastards. SBS, supporting commandos. Those bloody children should be supporting us. Think they know more about amphibious assaults eh?

"Alright, alright. I'm justy pissed off with high command. Alright. All units set up a perimeter and await Major Bennets orders." ordered Brooklaw.

Brooklaw had always been the calm one. Where Vaughn was direct and generally a hot head, Brooklaw was the calm and decisive one. It unerved his men to see him like this. But the feeling was shared. Awaiting a Commando's orders was a bitter pill to swallow. But they made sure they didn't show it. Besides. They were professionals.

Lt. Colonel McCarthy
CO of .42 Commando
San Carlos Beachhead
------------------------------------

Lt. Colonel McCarthy waited for the last few company commanders to arrive as he stood on the beach, with troops disembarking the LCU's and heading up the beach to form up with the rest of the men. There was all 800 men from .42 Commando, along with the SBS group who were noticeable from the rest of the men, sitting on the rocks with unconventional equipment and bizarre battle dress. Finally Major Brooklaw of the SBS arrived, completing the group and now McCarthy could start the assault.

"Right, good work so far. Now comes the difficult part. The San Carlos settlement has been occupied by a small armored company from intel sources, suggesting 85-100 men along with 4 IFV's and 2 MBT's. The plan is for A Company to flank round to the north, while C Company flanks to the south. D Company will be providing fire support from the top of the slope with mortars and machineguns. B Company will be assaulting head on from our position, along with the men from the SBS. We'll catch them in a pincer and then if resistance is tough, the Challenger's being brought in on the next wave of LCU's shall assist. Any questions?"

Major Bennet nodded.

"Sir, with due respect, I have lost over 30 men from my company who have been already fighting for an hour. Shouldn't we be flanking while A Company assaults head-on?"

"Don't worry, Major Brooklaw's men are being attached to your unit. That will bring your strength back-up and also your men are more experienced than any of us against these Argentines, but if you're saying Bravo isn't up for it. Then it can be changed..."

They both knew he didn't mean it.

"No sir. We can do it," Bennet smiled.

"Very good then. Major Bennet has the authorization for the green light, when everyone is in position. Then it's time to show them what we're made of. We're Marines. We're the best of the best. Now don't leave the Argies thinking anything but that."

Lt.Hopley
2 PARA
1040 hours

The Battle for San Carlos had been raging for over four hours now. Lt.Hopley had been stuck in this Argetine slit-trench, pinned down for nearly an hour. His platoon of 24 had taken 7 casualties but it seemed the battle was starting to swing in 2 PARA's favour. From the sketchy radio reports, 3 PARA were making good rogress south of San Carlos and had sent a company to flank the Argie positions on the ridge from the South. The Argetines at C Companies positions at the north of the ridge were also starting to buckle. However, they continued to put up a stubborn resistance, despite their heavy losses.

Hopley peeked over the side of his trench just in time to see several mortar rounds from Hopley's fire-mission crash into a trench full of Argies. This was their chance, they could finally get the fuck out of this trench.

"On me lads!!"

Hopley quickly got up and dashed over to where the mortar rounds had just slammed into. One wounded Argie tryed to shoot Hopley with a pistol, but Hopley and Pvt.Dales put 6 rounds into him and he quickly stopped moving. The trench was a bloody mess. There was 7 bodies in there, 3 of which were missing arms or legs. 2 of them were still moving, quietly groaning. Hopley and 3 section occupied the trench and set up the GMPG before firing down on another Argie positon which was pinning down a platoon.

1-4= The Argie positions is decimated under a hail of fire
5-7= The Argies in the position continue to fight although take losses
8-10= They surrender

Lieutenant Colonel O'Sullivan
2 PARA
1100 hours

O'Sullivan watched two bombs fall onto an Argie position about 200 meters away. The fire from there abruptly stopped. In a trench a bit closer, a small white cloth was being waved. They were finally surrendering.

"About bloody time" muttered O'Sullivan

He ordered his men to halt firing on the position and a Spanish translator told them to show themselves. 13 Argies stood up, hands above their heads. All the way down the line, O'Sullivan got reports of Argies waving the White flag and surrendering.

O'Sullivan marched over. One of the Argies was a Major. O'Sullivan told him to demand that the officer in charge, an Argie Colonel, surrender immedietly. The firing in the background was gradually starting to wither as Argetines surrendered or were overrun.

Odds: The Colonel refuses to surrender
Evens: The colonel surrenders all forces on the ridge

Lieutenant Hopley
2 PARA
1150 hours

The battle for the ridge had turned into a mopping up operation. A stubborn Argie Colonel was refusing to surrender, and a few pockets of loyal resistance were holding out. However, most of the Argies were surrendering in droves. Hopleys platoon had already dealt with about 30 POW's who he had disarmed and sent down towards Red Beach. Most looked tired, hungry and cold- far from the evil nazi's they had been led to believe they were fighting.

A few more pot-shots rang out as Hopley leant back against the muddy wall of a trench and finished off the water in his canteen. The fire from this side of bay had been steadily decreasing, but it seemed the battle was still raging across the bay at San Carlos. He closed his eyes and sighed. It had been a tiring 5 or so hours and it was far more intense then anything he had expierienced in Afghanistan. This was gritty, up close and personal fighting, and it had taken its toll.

An loud pop went off a few feet away. A couple of snipers from antoher platoon were busy picking off the remaining Argies.

"Got him!!" shouted one of them excitedly.

"How many now?" asked another

"Nine sir!!" he said proudly.

Hopley thought of the casualties his platoon had taken today. Seven had been hit, 2 of them were dead and another 3 in critical conditions. It was just then that Pvt.Sanders returned from Red Beach from where he had carried Pvt.Chris 'Dino' Boyle, one of the critically injured

"Sir, Dino's dead"

Hopley didn't say anthing, he didn't need too.

Lieutenant Colonel O'Sullivan
2 PARA
1210 hours

The Argentine Colonel had finally surrendered 5 minutes and O'Sullivan was reading the casualty reports. 27 had been killed, with another 58 wounded. And that was just 2 PARA. However, an estimated 68 Argies had been killed, plus another 300 captured, nearly half of whom were wounded. They had put up a bloody hard fight and O'Sullivan admired them for that.

The battle for 42 Commando was still raging, although 3 PARA had also recived a formal surrender and were busy sending a force to flank San Carlos. 40 Commando were still mopping up it seemed, although reports were sketchy.

O'Sullivan stood up and got on the radio to HQ.

"Red Beach ridge is taken and the Argentines have formally surrendered. We have about 300 POW's that need picking up with the remainder of our wounded."

And that was that. 2 PARA's first battle of the war was over.
