Corporal Syner 2 Section, 1st Platoon, B Company, 42 Commando En Route to San Carlos Zodiac Zero Seven The Zodiac bounced onto the beach, at the same time as the 19 other boats did the same and every man jumped out the boat immediately seeking cover. The beach at San Carlos was the smallest of all the landing sites, with only 100 metres of beaches before the sand turned to grass and just off the beaches the MG nests began spitting fire at the men of 42 Commando. Corporal Syner led his 2 Section to a natural bunker in the sand, which just gave them enough cover from the Argentine machine gunners. The air was alive with bullets and suddenly Lieutenant Baker's voice appeared on the PRR. "Corporal Syner, you are the southern most unit. We need you to lay covering fire down on the fourth MG post, so that 1 and 3 section can move to your position. Then together we'll take it down and eliminate any other defences for the LCU's. Understood?" Although he could barely hear himself think above the crack of the bullets but he managed to pass the order onto his men. "Got it sir. Waiting on your mark." "Now!" As Syner shouted at his men to fire, the LSW and Minimi gunners opened fire on the MG nest, hoping to supress it enough so that the other 2 sections would reach them unscathed. 1-3: The MG nest bravely carries on firing and cuts down 7 of the men trying to make it to 2 Sections position. 5 dead, 2 wounded. 4-7: The MG nest manages to get off a few bursts off but only 4 men are hit. 1 dead, 3 wounded. 8-10: The MG nest is totally supressed and 1 and 3 section make it with only one man wounded, shot in the foot. Lieutenant Colonel O'Sullivan Red Beach 0645 hours O'Sullivan bailed out the back of the Mk9 with most of C Company and took cover along the grassy verge. The Falklands was a desolate place with very little vegetation, and cover was often scarse. He looked around him. Men had spread out right along the length of Red Beach, treating wounded, carrying heavy equipment and laying down covering fire. O'Sullivan peered up at the Ridge Line. There was several Argetine strongpoints raining MG fire downwards. C Compnay, as the Northern most Company, was tasked of moving up the north slope in a flanking manouver. O'Sullivans Mk9 had nearly been hit by an Argie missile on the way in. Could have spelled disaster. But other then that, they had only taken 2 casualties from stray bullets. Next to him, 2 men were setting up a Javelin Missile Launcher and aiming it at the closest Argie MG nest: 1-5= It hits, destroying the nest and allowing a flanking manouver 4-7= It misses 8-10= It hits nearby, killing some. Fire still coming though You rolled a: 7! |

Lieutenant Hopley Red Beach 0655 hours Hopley and his men had been pinned down for nearly half an hour now. But since the arrival of the Mk9's, GMPG's and Javelin missiles had been set up and were laying down some heavy surpressive fire. Hopley could see across the other side of the bay now the fog was starting to clear, with San Carlos in the distance. Hopefully they were having an easier time then 2 PARA. "He's gone" said Pvt.Slater. It was the man who had fallen next to him. He had recived a bullet wound to the chest and Slater had been desperatly trying to save him. "Damn it" muttered Hopley. Nothing they could do now though. He poked his head out from behind the large rock. With all the extra targets for the Argies to fire at, they were no longer as pinned down. He spooted the nearest Argie MG nest, with a clump of rocks and shrubs nearby. It was a steep slope, but it was only a 40 meter dash to the rocks. He ordered his men to fix bayonets and keep close behind him. 1-3= They make it to the rocks but with heavy causalties and are pinned down 4-7= They make it to the rocks but are pinned down 8-10= They make it to the rocks and destroy the Argie MG nest You rolled a: 4! |

Lieutenant Hopley Off Red Beach 0705 hours Hopley dove the last meter and got his head down. He looked around to check if anybody had been hit. It was a bloody miracle that no one was. But now the MG, just 20 or so meters away had its sites on them. Thye were well and truly pinned down, with another MG to their Left hurtling bullets towards them. Hopley let off a few potshots from his SA80 before being forced back into cover. He had a good view of the beach from up here. He could see hundreds of men all along it, and now the Argies were starting to take a battering. A hundred meters to his left an Argie strongpoint was cleared with grenades, bayonets and buttstocks. Then there was suddenly several explosions to his right. Then heard the shouts on his radio. "Mines!! We've got Mines!!! Stay clear of the area marked with Green smoke!!!" Green smoke grenade started to fill from around the explosions. He looked up. Several more Green Smoke signals were scattered down the beach. "Shit" said Hopley. Something else to contend with. The MG continued to pour fire onto them. Hopley needed to do something. "Slater. You got any smoke?" "Yes sir". He threw Hopley two grenades. "Right, lads, listen up". The 8 guys around him got in close. "I am going to pop some smoke, and make a dash for that MG Nest. I need 4 of you with me". One of the fire teams offered. "The rest of you, lay down suppresing fire but for gods sake don't hit any of us" He didn't wait for any answers. He threw the smokes between him and the MG position. "Ready, ready. Go!!!" They bailed out from behind the rocks, bayonets drawn and ran screaming and shouting across the 20 meter gap 1-3= They are mown down 4-7= They clear the MG nest with 1 casualties 8-10= They clear the nest with no casualties You rolled a: 10! |

Corporal Syner 2 Section, 1st Platoon, B Company, 42 Commando San Carlos Beachhead "Fuck!" 3 Section had taken 4 casualties; 3 dead lying on the sand which was now stained with blood and 1 wounded, shot in the wrist which was now a bloody mess of splitntered bone and torn flesh. 1 Section had taken 3 casualties; 2 dead both in their Zodiacs and Lt. Baker had been shot in the foot as he made it to the bunker, but had managed to make it cover. Now they were hunkering down, still enough men to take on the position but significantly weakened. Baker began giving orders. "Syner, get 2 Section ready. Your the only full strength section and your going to have to lead the assault. We'll lay down all the covering fire we can, but your going to have to make that sprint and take it down. Throw smoke then hook right and you know what to do." Syner gathered his section and laid out the plan. It wasn't ideal but it was all they could do. They all pulled out smoke grenades and on his mark they through them as far as they could, creating a complete blind screen for the Argie gunners. As what was left of the platoon began firing like there was no tomorrow, 2 Section started the 50 metre sprint to the next bit of cover. 1-3: The MG gunner manages to get off a couple of lucky bursts through the smoke, killing an LSW gunner and wounding another marine. 4-7: The MG gunner manages to injure a marine in 2 section. 8-10: The MG gunner does not injure anyone and 2 section make it safely. Hopley made the 20 meter dash before descending on the Argies, blinded by smoke. He screamed at the top of his voice, no words in particular, just mindless animal noises. He shot one Argie at point blank range before swinging his rifle butt round and slamming it into the head of another, sending him crumpling to the floor. "Aaaargh!!!!" he roared, jamming the bayonet into the him again and again, the Argie trying to scream but with no sound coming out. The Argie finally died, his guts spilling out of the ragged hole in his stomach. Two bullets narrowly missed Hopley and he looked up just in time to see the final Argies brains get splattered across some sandbags. The Argie he had just shot was screaming in pain, holding onto his shouldier. Instantly they received fire from another Argie position to their right. Hopley screamed into his radio "Clear" He fired several shots at the next Argie bunker. Blood, guts and gristle were hanging off his bayonet. But none of that mattered to him right then. He had just killed two men in vicious hand to hand fighting but his mind was entierly focused on the mission. The battle continued to rage. |

Corporal Syner 2 Section, 1st Platoon, B Company, 42 Commando San Carlos Beachhead ------------------------------------------- "Shit. Johno's down!" Two of the men dragged Marine Wells to the rocky cover where they were now sheltering. He had been shot through the knee and was in huge pain, as the medic tried to patch him as best he could. Once he was done, the men reloaded their SA80's, pulled fragmentation grenades out and got prepared to assault the MG nest. "Right Max and Alex, your going to stay here and lay down fire with the LSW and Minimi. Neil and Dan your each going to throw grenades on my mark. Will and Sam, we're going to clear the nest. Everyone got it?" There was a chorus of "Got it" and Syner cocked his SA80, before turning to the men. "Now!" Syner, Will and Sam got to their feet and began sprinting towards the MG nest, just as the grenades were thrown and the machine gunners began raking the sandbags of the MG emplacement. 1-5: The grenades land outside the post and do no damage. The nest is cleared but Will is shot dead. 6-10: The grenades kill the loader and the gunner is cut down as the trio clears it. No casualties. You rolled a: 8! |

Corporal Syner 2 Section, 1st Platoon, B Company, 42 Commando San Carlos Beachhead ------------------------------------ The three of them hunkered down in the sandbags, with the two mangled corpses lying next to them, one of them unrecognisable as the grenade had blown his face off. They hadn't had a good luck at what was East of the MG nest, but they knew there must be enemy there because rounds had started zipping around them. He got on the radio to the Lt. "Baker, this is Syner. We've taken the MG nest with zero casualties. You can move up to our position now. What's the situation along the beach?" "3 of the other 4 MG nests have been neutralised, with the platoons moving up to them now. The only one still going is 200 metres north of your location, but it's got two MG's in it. None of the forces on the beaches can get a shot in. I need you to take it out." "With 3 men sir? That's fucking impossible." "Well either that or your going to have to wait for the rest of the lads to get up to your position and time is costing lives Syner. You've got to find a way." "I'll do my best sir." Sam raised an eyebrow at the Corporal. "I've got an idea how we can take out that emplacement!" "Well any idea is a good one right now. Hit me." "Well, we're in an MG nest and they want us to take out another one. How about we fight fire with fire?" It suddenly clicked in Syner's mind. "Brilliant Sam! I could fucking kiss you right now! You two get on it and lets silence those bastards." 1-3: The fire is innacurate and one of the gunners turns his weapon to face them, unleasing a hail of bullets into the sangar. 4-7: The fire is good but only kills one of the gunners. The other machingun carries on firing. 8-10: The devastating fire kills both of the crews and now the beach is secure of enemy troops. You rolled a: 3! |

Pvt Carlisle 2 PARA, B Company Red Beach 0945 hours "Get down!!!!" Carlisle hit the deck as two low flying Argie planes dropped several 500lb bombs. The ground shuddered underneath him and put a ringing in his ears. He got back up. 6 men from the support platoon were next to him, firing away with their 81mm mortars. They had been laying down rounds relentlessly for the last 2 and a half hours. Another man ran up with a bucket of water from the bay and poured it over one of the mortars, steam sizzling up. "Carlisle, stop fannying about and get over here!!" Carlisle ran over to the wounded men placed along the grassy verge. There was a line of them, laid out in a neat row. 14 in all, although 3 of them were covered up with blankets having passed away. Sgt.Marlow was administering morphine to one of the men with a gunshot wound to the thigh. 2 of the men next to him had lost legs from mines, one of them with one side of his face mangled. Carlisle rapped a bandage around another man with wound to his upper right arm and his left wrist. Another casualty was brought down from the ridge by two men. It had been like this for hours, another wounded man brought down by his comrades before they ran back up the hill to carry on the fight. Marlow took a quick look at him and felt his pulse. "Cover him up, hes gone" The moratar rounds continued to fire away next to him and a low flying Raphael dropped what seemed to be a 1000lb bomb somewhere up on the ridge. "We need to get these men out of here!!" screamed Carlisle over the noise. Zodiacs had been able to take the occasional man back out to fleet, and Carlisle and Marlow were forced to prioritize who should be taken. The Mk9's wouldn't re-enter the bay until all the Argie big guns were destroyed. Helo evacuation was out of the question, intel suggested the Argies had stingers, and besides, another attack was planned for up north and there was very few choppers to spare. Some of the wounded were taken immedieitly, some had been lying here in agony for hours. It was certainly a fucked up situation, and the battle on the ridge didn't look like it was going to end any time soon. Edited by Finn 1939, Nov 8 2009, 07:53 PM.

Corporal Syner 2 Section, 1st Platoon, B Company, 42 Commando San Carlos Beachhead ------------------------------------ Syner saw it out the corner of his eye as he ducked. Will flew off the gun and landed on the ground, his chest now a mass of bullet holes and blood. Sam crawled over to him trying to stem the flow, but he was mortally injured and he began coughing violently with blood exploding from his mouth like a fountain. There was nothing they could do and within 30 seconds, his eyes were glazed over and his body was as still as the rocks beneath them. Another casualty, bringing the platoon total to 9, reducing them to less than 2/3 strength. The rounds were still cracking overhead until there was a trememndous boom followed by silence, and then more gunshots but none coming towards Syner's location. He got on the radio to find out what was going on. "Lieutenant, what's the situation?" "It's ok Corporal, some brave bastard from 2nd Platoon, charged it single handedly with a grenade. Lucky shot, landed right in their and blew them to hell. We're en route to your position, ETA 30 seconds." Corporal Syner and Sam sat against the sangar, breathing heavily, both trying to ignore the dead body lying between them. Will had been in for less than a year, fresh out of training and new to combat. He didn't die because he wasn't well trained enough, he simply died because a bullet's flight path crossed where his body was. That was the thing about combat, it was unpredictable. The rest of the platoon arrived, with Lt. Baker hanging off someone's shoulder hobbling on his good foot. "Well done Corporal. Fucking good effort." "Cheer sir. What now?" "Well once all the platoons are up at our level, we've got to get up that slope and see what's at the top. It's going to get nasty , the rest of the Argie force is just over the top of it and we're probably going to be facing armor. How long till the men can be ready to move out?" "Now sir. We don't have time to rest, I suggest we go ahead of the other platoons and try and get an eye on what's up there. I'll only need a 4 man team." Baker's face was contorted in concentration for a second and then he looked up. "Ok, but don't go taking any risks you don't need to." "Well I can't promise anything," Syner said, standing up and checking his equipment. "But I'll try not to do anything you wouldn't do." Syner took the other 3 men with him, crawling up the shallow incline and pausing before the top, leaving two of the men there and only taking Sam with him. When they reached the top, they looked over the top and observed the enemy layout: 2 D-30's, with around 15 infantry as protection. "Sam, they're fucking waiting for the LCU's to get in range so they can sink them. We need to get on the radio, and get the JTAC to call in some fast air on those. Right now." The JTAC of the platoon was waiting down by the MG nest, when he got ordered to call in some fast air on two targets over the slope. He got on the radio to the two F-35's that were on standby. "Hawk12, this is Widow 55. I have two targets for you grid reference Papa-Oscar-Seven-Niner-Bravo. Two D-30 artillery pieces, surrounded by One-Five infantry. Urgent request for elimination. Do you copy? Over." |
