Captain Miles Swift examined the Danish Major curiously, he looked like he'd had a rough night of combat and Swift wasn't surprised after listening to the reports from HQ. It sounded like the Danes had received the warmest welcome with a hot LZ and then some tough resistance in the compounds, which was easy to see from the whole in the wall of one, obviously taken a hit from a rocket. Hopefully, his men would be able to get it patched up and soon they could build a small FOB that could take this battlegroup and all the vehicles. It would definitely be a challenge.

"Good to see you all made it alive," he said, shaking the major's hand. "Now is there much damage to the compounds apart from the rocket strike on that one? Any structural damage or anything been blown up?"

"Nothing worth talking about," Bjarke replied. "How much do you reckon you can get done today?"

The captain scratched his head.

"Dunno depends really. We should be able to set up a perimeter of Hesco with barbed wire on top, about two hescos tall and wide, and we can build the perimeter as wide as you need it to be. Your gate's probably gonna have to be a big lump of metal on hinges, not something which will stop much more than bullets, so if I were you I'd shoot any fucker who's driving towards you quickly. I guess we could try and put up some sentry towers, but probably not today, you'll just have to put snipers on the roofs of those two compounds. In terms of buildings, nothing prefab. You just got to sleep rough, not what you wanted to hear I imagine but your probably safer in your vehicles. Although I guess your commander will put his HQ in one of the compounds, and the other will probably keep your ammunition and supplies."

The Major shifted uncomfortably.

"Looks like this FOB won't be too homely for a few days then?"

"Not really Major. Once I've done the initial check for any structural damage or problems, I'll bring the loaders in to start work on the Hesco and then the trucks will bring all the other equipment I need in. I'll make a rough sketch of what it will look like in a bit and you can see if there's anything you want changing. Unless you got anything you really want in this base?"

"Well some toilets would be nice," Bjarke smirked. "No, you do what your good at and we'll make sure Terry don't come near."

"Sounds good to me mate. Right if you'll excuse me I better be starting examining these compounds," Swift replied. "Nice meeting you."

"You too," the Major said before turning and walking back to probably get some much need rest.

"C'mon Lieutenant," Swift said turning to his 2ic. "We've got alot of work to do today, and I want to be back at base before dinner."

(OOC: I will post later, when the construction of the FOB begins. I'll make a map of what it will look like so you guys can get a better idea, though dont expect it to be an art masterpiece.)

Major Giles had been running around his companies, checking up on them and asking for Sit-Reps. So far, the surrounding compounds were completely abandoned except for the few sick and elderly who couldn't, or simply didn't want to move. Everyone else had escaped the fighting. Hopefully, once they saw that ISAF forces were planning to stay, they would slowly start to return. If they didn't, then this whole operation was a pointless waste of time.

So now they just had to wait for further orders. One or two patrols had been sent out but that was it. They would have to secure the compounds to the west, as well as do a sweep of the Green Zone. Chances are the Taliban would have turned it into a fortress by now with IED's, trenches and ambush points. To top it off, vehicles would be next to useless in the Green Zone, so any patrols would have to be on foot.

Hopefully he would be able to get a hold of a few Mastiffs and Ridgebacks. He had survived two IED explosions in one and he emerged without a single scratch. Once the Taliban regrouped and got their act together, a couple of Mastiffs certainly wouldn't go amiss.

Major Bjarke Henriksen walked towards the town.
He had stayed near the engineers and answered any question the captain had asked, he seemed like a capable man, not wanting to get in the combat troops way.

He walked down the main street and found them mostly empty, with plenty of british soldiers walking around.
Bjarke spotted the British Mechanised major and they exchanged looks and nodded at eachother.

It didnt look like the Colonel had arrived. He hoped he had a commander who wasnt afraid to get his hands dirty instead of sitting in Bastion or Lashkar Gah, that would dissapoint Bjarke. So he looked for a CP throghout the time he was in the town, but failed to find any.

After that, Bjarke walked back to his men, on the way coming under sniper fire from some taliban inside the green zone.
Would have to be dealt with once he got back, now he needed to chek up on the engineers.

Lt. Colonel Robinson sat in the back of the Jackal, at the head of the huge vehicle convoy headed for Majal and the surrounding area. Under the dull afternoon sunshine the convoy moved quickly through the barren landscape of this part of Helmand Province, careful to vary its route so as to try and avoid IED's and each vehicle was well spaced apart to avoid one vehicle getting caught up in another one's explosion. The convoy contained all of Alpha and Bravo Companies' Jackals, Charlie Company's Mercedes and leading the way was Delta's Mastiffs and Ridgebacks. The convoy's first stop was the FOB area.

As they approached the area, Robinson was amazed how much the Engineers had managed to get done in the day so far. The Hesco Bastion perimeter extended around the two compounds to the south of the main settlement, with each of the Compounds in the North-West and South East Corners respectively. A metal gate had been erected facing West and in the South-West corner, they had laid down a gravel Car Depot, where the vehicles could sit, and so at that area the Hesco was built even taller to protect them. The compound on the North-West was designated as the Armory, where all the ammunition and spare weapons would be kept, safe from fire. The Compound on the South-East was designated as HQ, and that was where Robinson and his support staff would run the operation from and where the Officers not out in the field would sleep.

As they approached, Robinson could see that on top of the Hesco that was either side of the gate were sangars. Sangars are temporary outposts, which are generally made up by some sandbags piled up and a sheet metal roof on the top. In one of the Sangars, was a GPMG pair and in the other was a pair of snipers, meaning that any threat could be reported far off and supressed if neccesary. When they got within 100 yards, the Jackals and Delta Companies vehicles turned North heading for each of their targets. Charlie Company's Mercedes and all HQ's support trucks carried on towards the front gate which swung open and let the vehicles in.

They all pulled up in the car depot, and men began to disembark, with some of the Danes running towards them excitedly to get their hands on their prized vehicles. The Lt. Colonel jumped down from his Jackal and strode towards Captain Swift who was waiting for them, his arms folded and a big smile on his face. When he saw the CO he snapped to attention and gave a crisp salute, which Robinson returned.

"I'm glad you got here safe Commander. Is our work so far, up to your standards?"

They were old friends from Sandhurst and Robinson just smiled.

"Course it is Swifty. You and your lads must of worked quickly to get it like this in barely a day. I hope you gave them a tea break," he smirked.

"Well I would of, only there's not much tea around here, so I just kept the whip going and they kept working."

"Thanks again Swifty. I'll catch you later, I better go and find my new home," Robinson replied giving his friend a pat on the shoulder.

"Shouldn't be difficult. There's only two buildings in this hell hole," Swift shouted after him as he walked off.

Robinson found the new HQ and was pretty pleased with it. There was enough room to put all the comms equipment and the small indoor rooms, would make for bare sleeping conditions. His men began bringing all the gear in and he found himself a small room, not much bigger than a small garden shed and decided this would be his personal office. He guessed he'd sleep under the desk and some of his support staff could bunk on the floor space there was. It was going to be a little cramped to say the least. When he got a radio working, he decided to hold a de-brief with all the commanders.

"This is Sunray to all elements. All company commanders are to travel to the FOB, once they have received their vehicles, for a de-brief. Over."

He leant back and examined the make-shift map one of his staff had made of the FOB as it was at the moment:

Major Bjarke Henriksens men were all rather happy to see the arrival of their vehicles.

To the lef tof him, Bjarke could see Major Giles inspecting his vehicles.

"now, let me tell you buddy. Those might be some fancy truck you got there, but look at this!"
Giles walked, rather bemused, over to him and said:
"They sure dont look like much"

Bjarke smiled before continuing:
"sure as hell dont, but the G270 can drive 120 kilometers and hour, got 4 drive and got room for 3 machineguns, besides the fact that the men can shoot out of the vehicles"

Giles just nodded pleasently before pulling Bjarke with him over to their funny looking trucks:
"This is the Mastiff, this baby wont break down, EVER"
The dane walked around, looking the vehicle up and down:
"looks rather clumsy"
Giles smiled again: "well, it can take an IED hit and you will walk out without a scratch, where yours look like an AK round will make it explode"

The following couple of minutes went with pleseant, but rather heated exchanges about the superiority of each vehicle,. But it was ended as Major Henriksen had to go talk to his Platoon leaders before going to the briefing.

Bjarke informed the platoons that they would be sleeping in their vehicles, and also that they would have to remain alert and would offer men for the engineers to help them patrolling.

After finishing, the Danish Major walked to the briefing tent.

"This is Sunray to all elements. All company commanders are to travel to the FOB, once they have received their vehicles, for a de-brief. Over."

Major Black began walking to Lieutenant McAleese once his rover reached the other land rovers at the southeast target building.

"John, I could use a ride to the FOB. All company commanders are needed there for a debriefing. We'll be taking two land rovers to the FOB while the other two remain here with the patrol. I want you guys to set up a defense perimeter around Majal, in case the Taliban try to come back and take it again," said Major Black.

The patrol acknowledged and began moving out. Major Black got into the commanders seat of the land rover and the two land rovers began driving to the FOB.

"Golf-One-Zero to Sunray, I am en route to the FOB. ETA in 10," radioed Major Black.

"Roger that Sunray Im leaving half the men here to stay at the checkpoint." There was no traffic but a scooter was dicking around in the distance so far no harm done but nothing bravo could do about him right now,

Alec walked over to the men and split the groups so one set would stay at the checkpoint and 2 set would go get the Jackels

"Sir c'mon I need a break Im knackard" Wilkes said as he took a swig from his flask

"Well u cant cause you make the best cups of tea speaking of wich two sugars and milk mate." Corpral Fraser said patting him on the top of the helmet. Wilkes got up to put the tea on as Major Redford lead his squad down the road towards the FOB.

There was a small breeze blowing just enought to kick the sand right up into youre face and the road was toatlly open to it, the men were relaxed but just a bit to tired they had been gaurding the bridge and had barley any sleep watsoever infact Redford got a whole 30minutes before waking, It was now when the men thought they were awake and alert that the fuckups rolled in Alec had chosen the ones who were a bit beat up and looked ruff to treck back and maybe a few of them would need to stay at the FOB for an hour or so to get some rest he knew that Sgt. Fox hadnt slept at all and he was a big guy so he took the lsmaller guys who were knackards kit weighing him down even more. As they aproached the FOB Redford was suprised at how mutch work had actually been done. He got to the makeshift gate and stated

"Major Alec Redford" Producing his ID to the gate man who let them through, Which promted the question "what would happen if he didnt let them in would they just have to stay outside" Alec's mind was wondering he needed to focus they were still deep in taliban controlled territory he needed his wits about him.

Giles was waiting around in the FOB, talking to his men and preparing some defensive plans. He had just spoken to Major Henriksens of Bravo. He seemed a nice enough chap, and they had had a heated little discussion about the new vehicles that had arrived. He seemed very passionate about them, and he wasn't even mechanized. He had always found the Danes to be a bit odd, but they were always a good laugh, and they were great out in the field which was all that mattered in the end.

Gile radioed his commanders and told them to get the Bulldogs and Warriors back to the FOB where they would probably be shipped back to Lashka Gah. They had served A-Coy well- but they had the new toys to play with, which probably wouldn't be of much use out in the Green Zone anyway.

It would be a long walk back to the FOB,but at least they knew where they were heading.

Lt. Colonel Robinson was examining the map when the command tent's flap swung open once more and Major Hammond walked in, looking rather tired and his hair was thick with sand and dust. He nodded at each of the other company commanders and greeted them, before putting his combat helmet down on a chair and joining the others round the map.

"Sorry I'm late sir. It took longer than I thought to walk here from Bridge 1," Hammond grimaced.

All the other commanders gave each bemused looks and burst into laughter. Hammond looked even more confused.

"Did I miss something?"

Major Henriksen had to contain his laughter to even speak.

"Well Major, I think we are all wondering why you simply didn't drive here in your vehicles?"

"Vehicles?" Hammond said, clearly baffled. "What vehicles? We have not received our Jackals yet."

Now it was Robinson's turn to be confused.

"Major, I did say that you should all wait until your vehicles arrive and then come to the FOB. Did you not hear me clearly?"

Hammond scratched his head thoughtfully.

"I don't know... Must of had a mental blank... Oh well, I'm here now aren't i?"

"Just about," Redford chuckled and the rest of the commanders laughed. "So what was the reason we are here Lt. Colonel?"

"Aah yes. Well this is basically a meeting to decide the next phase of our operation. We must not halt our operations for too long, otherwise the Taliban will have time to fortify the Green Zone over the river and any further operations will be made even more difficult. Any objections to that?"

"None, the sooner we take the fight to them the better I say," stated Major Giles firmly. The other men nodded in agreement.

"Right then if we are agreed on that, then it is time I outline how we will go about this," Robinson said and took a deep breath before continuing.

"Current operations are going to be divided into automatic taskings and deliberate taskings. Automatic taskings will be the day to day patrolling and defence of Majal, Bridge 1 and surrounding areas. Deliberate taskings will include, fighting patrols sent into the green zone over the river, joint operations and mobile operations to the West in the farming area. There will be a cycle so no one company ends up doing all the work and everyone will get the same amount of rest time," Robinson started.

Major Redford interjected.

"Will we be able to use our vehicles in the Green Zone?"

"Not unless you want them to turn into static coffins," Robinson said grimly. "The terrain won't suit them for most of the Green Zone and the bits that are open will probably have IED's just for that purpose. You'll be better on foot and it won't restrict your movement too much."

"So what's our objectives?" Asked the Danish commander.

"Well we have three objectives. The first is obvious; to destroy all Taliban forces out of the area. Secondly, we are to establish a series of Patrol bases, one in the Green Zone, one to the North of Bridge 1, one to the South of the FOB and one to the East. This will create a ring of patrol bases from which we can control security of the area. The Third objective, is to secure enough area to construct a much large FOB, which will in time become the biggest base of operations in Helmand, after Bastion and Kandahar."

He could hear several sharp intakes of breath.

"How big a base are we talking about?" Major Black asked, who had been silent for the whole meeting.

"Command hasn't specified yet, but probably a third of the size of Camp Bastion. I know saying a third doesn't sound that big but if you think how big Bastion is, then you'll start to see what we're planning," Robinson stated plainly.

"Damn, that'll be big enough for a Heliport I bet," Redford said. "How long have we got to establish this base then?"

"3-4 months, So it will take up at least half of our tour by my reckoning. Which means we need to have a very aggressive strategy and it means we must begin right away. So unless there is anything else? I'll state the cycle of units and what current roles we have," he said looking at each commander in turn, who each shook their head.

"Right. The Afghan National Army company, will go out on any fighting patrol with the light infantry. They will also be helping to guard the FOB. Now the cycle for the next 3 days. Delta company will be going to go on an operation to find out what is what over West in the farmed area. Bravo Company will be going on a 2 day operation into the Green Zone with some of the ANA, starting tomorrow morning, I will give specifics later. Alpha Company will be guarding Bridge 1 still and the surrounding area and Charlie will be taking up security for Majal. Any questions?"

"What about my men?" Major Black looked puzzled.

"You will be on a... different mission. Its details are classified so I'll have to send you a mission folder instead. I will also be sending mission folders to Major Redford and Major Giles, as to the specifics of their mission. Unless any of you have any questions you are dismissed."

Robinson waited to ask if they had any questions.
