Airstrip
New FOB
2330 Hours

Major Black walked down the airstrip and entered one of the hangars that had G Squadron. Major Black closed the folder containing information on the mission and faced up to look at his troops.

"Listen up, lads," barked Major Black. "At 2345 hours we will be boarding a C17 and progress into Khannesin through an airborne insertion. In other words, we will be doing a HALO jump from 30,000 ft. At 0000 hours, we will be jumping out of the C17's, landing towards an open field. Our primary objective is to secure Ismail Akhund, a Taliban Commander that has growing power in southern province of Helmand. He also has high support from high officials that are willing to make a public revolt. Once we have secured the "package," we will radio in an extract to command, while moving back to the RP. If we are unable to secure Akhund, we will assassinate him from afar. His capture will slow down Taliban activity and also provide us information on the Taliban's movement. It is vital we secure him alive. Dismissed"

The patrol members began a final gear check and made their way to the C17. Major Black began to review a plan for the mission and then made his way to the C17.

"Rolex to Sunray, we are green for take off," radioed CWO Perkins. "Awaiting your "go," sir."

"Stand-by, Rolex," radioed Major Black.

Major Black looked at Lieutenant McAleese and Sergeant Stone and gave them hand signals. Both members nodded their head and gave a thumbs up.

"Rolex, Golf-One-Zero is ready for dust off. Standing-by until the jump," radioed Major Black.

"Copy that, Golf-One-Zero," responded CWO Perkins on the radio. "Rolex to Sunray, departings the airspace, over and out."

The C17 began rolling down the airstrip and began increasing it's altitude. The night was cold and very dark, giving the patrol an advantage in line of sight.

After a few minutes later, the radio crackled back to life.

"Golf-One-Zero, stand-by for jump," announced CWO Perkins.

The C17's passenger bay began flashing red. The patrol stood up and began shuffling to the back ramp of the carrier. Soon, the area flashed green, giving the go to the patrol for the jump. The members began jumping out of the bird one by one and dove down from the skies like a rock.

1-2: Two Patrol Member's parachutes fail to open when they reached the altitude required for the HALO jump, resulting in two KIA.
3-7: All chutes for members deployed, but missed the targeted drop by .1 miles.
8-10: All members deployed chutes successfully and landed on the drop zone.

Robinson realised the momentum was in the Battlegroup's hands right now and if he could keep the tempo up then they might be able to make some real progress.

"Delta One Zero, this is Sunray. I need you to head to the south of the FOB and search for a possible location for a Patrol Base. Take a team of engineers with you. Over."

"Roger that Sunray, Delta-One out"

He got his men together for a brief. First time they had been out on patrol since they went over to the West.

"Right lads. We are being sent on another Op, this time to the south into the village we cleared on our way here. We are going to find a suitable place to establish a new Patrol Base for the ANA- we aren't expecting to make contact with any hostiles, but we all know you can never be too sure. We also have a team of engineers with us to look after.

It should routine and I am not expecting much trouble. Stick to the plan and stay safe.

Oh, and I have some good news. Compton's going to be alright. He had lost his left leg below the new, and won't be walking for a while- but hes safe and thats what counts"

The men left the briefing room with smiles on their faces

They were packed up and ready to go. They could here gun shots from the Green Zone. Alpha-One had obviously bumped into some trouble. The men reverted back to their worried looks.

They left the FOB. 3 of the Mastiffs containing 1st Platoon would pass through the village with the other 3 containing 3rd skirting round it. 2nd remained at the FOB, but they would be on call. The engineers would follow 3rd (Who Major Giles was with) as they skirted round in a Ridgeback.

As they approached the town, it became clear that the civilians had started to return. They looked at the Mastiffs with suspicion, but they were out in the streets which usually meant Terry wasn't about. Giles spotted a possible Dicker speed off on his bike across into the Green Zone, phone in hand. Nothing they could do about it though- he didn't have a weapon and he wasn't firing at them.

The fire in the Green Zone grew heavier. It had been relatively constant for the passed few hours, and several Apaches were buzzing around at one point- firing off some cannon rounds and a few missiles. Things were definitely hotting up.

1-6= Patrol makes it safely to the south of town
7-10= IED goes off

They made it safely to the south of town. There was a ruined compound there- just 4 walls and no roof. It seemed a good enough place. The engineers hopped out with 3rd Platoon who started scanning the area.

2nd Platoon meanwhile went on foot patrol back through the town, greeting a few of the locals.

After half an hour, with the 2nd having returned , the engineers deemed the area suitable.

"Sunray, this is Delta-One-Zero. The area is clear and we have found a suitable place for a patrol base. What are your orders? Over"

"Roger that Sunray."

Giles quickly ordered 2nd to board the Mastiffs and meet up with the engineers.

1st Platoon meanwhile went back to the North of the village with their Mastiff to make sure no suspicious activity was going on. Giles was determined that this operation would go completely smoothly, and so far it had done.

About an hour later the Engineers and 2nd Platoon had arrived with their 3 Mastiffs and the engineers had several heavy vehicles and a few Ridgebacks- following the tracks made by 3rd Platoon on their way in. They reported no suspicious activity and the engineers immediately got to work. Alpha Company set up a defensive parametre and left them to it. Hopefully Terry would be too distracted in the Green Zone

As the C-17's unloaded the rest of the Vehicles Major Tom Hawkins let out a sigh of relief. The last time he had been posted to Afghan his Vehicles had to unload from Bastion and drive all the way to their base.
The Men and Women of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment 1st Battalion were a good bunch. They had fought in places ranging from Bosnia to Iraq.

"Looks like we're in for a treat sir." commented Captain Thomason.

"Aye. Make sure the Warriors are lined up and ready for deployment. I'd also like the Schimitar's Commanders to come with me to meet the boss." ordered Hawkins.

"Yes sir." replied the Captain.

One of the assistant staff walked into the command tent, it was early evening and the light had started to fade only letting through a pale glow of light into the interior of the tent.

"Sir, Major Hawkins is here to see you."

Robinso got up from his chair and stood up straight, as the Major appeared through the tent flap; flanked by what looked like some tank commanders from the Life Guards. They all stopped infront of the Robinson and saluted, which he returned before shaking each of their hands.

"Major Hawkins, good to see you and your men here. Looks like we'll be in need of some extra mechanized infantry in the coming days, Terry isn't half putting up a damn hard fight. I suggest you meet with Major Giles of Delta Company, the other Mechanized unit, he'll be able to give you a better brief than I can on the tactical situation for your vehicles. Now, give me the low down on what forces you've got in your company and how you think you'd be best used. It will give me a better idea of how to apply your men in operations."
