This game is part of the Operation X© Series and a direct descendant of Operation Apex and 4th Battalion, created by Andcus & Pathfinder Ltd. Credit goes to Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising, for the inspiration for this game and to all the previous players of Operation X games for supporting me in my mission to bring realistic military simulators to forums everywhere.

This game is based on the original game of 4th Battalion, by Andcus & Pathfinder Ltd. It will involve small elements of fan fiction, with each individual player being able to tell his Character's story but in essence it will be a strategy style game. The game will be set in Cold War Europe in April 1986, following a Soviet Invasion of West Germany as part of a war plan to break the NATO alliance, so that they are able to secure the oil supplies in the Persian Gulf. You will play as company commanders in the 17th NATO battlegroup, which is similar to a multi-role infantry battalion. With the Soviet forces steaming into Western Europe, it will not be long before the men of the 17th stationed in Alfeld will have to defend every inch of the free western world...

The way this will work is that I will give the Battlegroup a set of instructions, like hold the northern flank of Alfeld against an enemy armored battalion or advance to the town and force the Soviets from it. Then you will have to work with your other commanders to get it done. Operations can last as long as it takes so you don't all need to be online at the time. To find out what happens on a mission you roll like you do in domination and so if you spot the enemy as the infantry commander you could try to call for air support from your close air support commander or artillery bombardment/fast air from the Battlegroup Commander (Me) if i have said that it is available. You will have to be realistic otherwise you will be kicked from this game after three strikes. This is all about taking Operation Snakebite to a bigger scale, so make your moves big and explosive.

Once you choose your position then you must state your name, nationality and what weapons/vehicles your section will be using. I will make a map soon enough and you can post in the mean time just roleplaying about your section of the army, making tactics with other commanders etc.. Remember you can choose what weapons and vehicles you use as long as it is real and was made before 1986. So post to claim your spot:

Battlegroup Commander: Colonel Christopher English (Path)

Alpha Company (Mechanised Infantry)
Major Taylor(Canada) - C7, M60, LAW, LAV-III (Abacap)

Bravo Company (Air Assault Infantry)

Mikkel Andersen jumped down from his Leopard 1 and hit the ground hard, nearly falling over.
It was getting dark in the little, cozy town that was gonna be the home of the 17th Battlegroup for the next couple of weeks.

It looked like the tanks of to-be Charlie Company had arrived first.
The town looked much like any town at a home that seemed longer away than ever before.
It was a funny thing actually. Never in his life would the 32 year old officer imagine himself standing in the way of the commies.
All he could hope for, was that he had some good men to lead and fight alongside his company.

He quickly ordered Jesper, Andersens loader and radio operator, to raise Battlegroup and report their arrival.
The 10 Leopard 1DK's, 2 M273 recovery vehicles, and the 2 M113G Hospital APC's had journeyed all the way from Jutland to here.
After making sure his vehicles and men had all been accounted for, Andersen climbed down the hatch to his tank. Then he ordered the men to advance to the center of town.

Lt. Fotis and his squadron of 80 men went out of the C-130 that landed at the airstrip near Alfeild, where tehyre going to meet the battalion. It would be his first assigment abroad. Some of the men lilke Alexander and Dimitris were nervous, others like Kontsantinos and the other Alexander were fueled with a lot of morale. He took the mean and told them to cghecak their equipment. He has done that many times in Greece, saying that:"The tiniest mistake you make will be costy."

He and his men prepared to take the bus to Alfeild.before the men could prepare themselves,Fotis took his Second-In-Comand,Vasilis Panagiotopoulos.
VASILIS;What is it sir?
FOTIS:Well..........I am afraid on what are the Com,munist going to doi to our men.
VASILIS:Dont be afraid sir,we've got valuable men.
FOTIS:Yes.........valuable.Theyre fresh fish. And Bears are hungry for Frh fish.
VASILIS:Agree.

They both went to the lead SUV hading for the meeting site.

The cobra handled like a dream. It's efficency amazed Mac who had been used to flying Huey's or Lynx's.
As he walked away from the landing pad he saw the other 4 Helo's making their approach.

"Looks like we'll be having som fun in those." commented Maclaren.

Maclaren was the Flight's Chief Engineer. At 6ft 4 and weighing at around 15 stone 'Mouse' as they affectionately called him had been to large to fly. So the Scotsman joined the engineers and was a founding member of Fox Squadron.

"Yes. Hopefully more than the guys in Bad Company." laughed Mac.

When Fox squadron referred to Bad company they were meaning B-company. Since both the commanders were British and mot of their respective subordinates were also from the Island across the Channel, a spot of friendly rivalry sparked up. Nothing too serious. Things like, who could pull the most G in a Huey or who could eat a Roast Dinner the fastest or who could sing Rule Britania the loudest.
And with that though in Mac's head. The Mouse and Mac walked off to the briefing with the Colonel.

As the last Leopard entered the city, Andersen got down into the warmth of his tank. It was surprisingly cold for April.
But the Tank was nice and warm, and Andersen enjoyed spending time in the King as his tank was called. Alongside Fatherland, Panzerfist, Raven and Mayhem they made up 1st Platoon. The 20 men were all full-time soldiers. Whereas 2nd Platoon, consisting of Kommie Killer, Juggernaut, Viking, Knight and Reddie, were reservists. 3rd Platoon was made up of the 2 armoured Ambulances, Doctor and Nurse, and the 2 recovery vehicles; Worker and Digger.

All in all, the Company was made up of around 75 men. less than the standard infantry company, but with their total of 20 105mm cannons and 44 MG3's, they had the firepower of 2.

Andersen settled in with his k-ration and looked down his vehicle. Down to the left was Private Jesper, the loader/radio operator. He was talking to the gunner, Karsten, who sat to the right of Andersen. That man was in charge of 75% of the vehicles firepower, being in charge both the massive 105mm L7 cannon, and the co-axial MG3. All the way to the front was Søren, the driver.

The 4 men controlled the mighty war machine. The Leopard 1 was arguebly the best Tank for warfare in Europe. The american M1A1 packed a bigger punch, but suffered from short range. The british Challenger was starting to get old, and was more suited to sit in a tank trench and fire, rather than agressive action. Meanwhile the new Leopard 2, which the men of Charlie Company had jealously eyed on their way south, were too few in number to do the same damage to the commies like the Leopard 1. There was rumours that the Danish Government were securing some to replace the Leopard 1's, but that would take time, and since the war would either be won or lost before the deal was in place, it didnt effect Andersen and his men.

The Leopard 1 could drive over 60 kilometers an hour, and nearly reach that speed off-road. Therefore it would be perfect in the muddy forests of Germany, Denmark, Austria and the rest of Central/Northern Europe.
it carried 12 rounds in the turret for fast loading, and there was easy acces to the 42 other rounds in the hull. Other than that, the commanders MG3 was equipped with nearly 1000 rounds in reach of Andersen, and the gunner would have nearly 4 times that amount to spend.

All in all, Andersen liked his odds.
But as the Tank served a morale and firepower boost to the rest of the company, it needed them for protection. Especially in towns like Alfeld.
Soviet infantry could use the buildings to hit them from above with their RPG's. Hopefully, Andersen wouldnt be forced to go through the town, but instead be providing fire support and a quick counter-attack unit, to encircle soviet mechanised troops.

Then there was what they all feared. The soviets were rumoured to be ready to use Chemical warfare against stationary NATO troops, or even Biological warfare. Luckily, the Leopard 1 was totally NBC safe. As long as it was undamaged that was. And it didnt count the dead and infected of the other companies.

All in all, Andersen was sure he could make it out of this war alive. He was just afraid of what he might witness before doing so.
