Britain tries to persuade the ECI and France to choose the Eurofighter Typhoon (As it will bring economic benefits to the UK, as well as the other European countries involved in the project)

Britain enters a multi-billion pound deal with Japan as Japan are sold 80 Eurofighters (Japan are looking for replacements and the Eurofighter seems like it will be the most likely choice)

All of Britain's existing 160 Eurofighters have been upgraded to Tranche 3.

The British armies 120 Lynx's, and the Royal Navy's 80 Lynx's have all been upgraded to the Super Lynx

The construction of 6 more state-of-the-art Type 45 Class Destroyers begins to join the existing 6.

The deal with Saudi Arabia also goes ahead, and 2 Type 45 Destroyers will be sold to them.

Recruitment figures show a large rise, but they are still below target

Japan is currently looking for a next generation fighter and the Eurofighter seems like it will be the most likely candidate

Japan

In March 2007, Jane's Information Group reported that the Typhoon was the favourite to win the contest for Japan's next-generation fighter requirement.[63] The other competitors then were the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and F-15E Strike Eagle.[63] On 17 October 2007, Japanese Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba confirmed that Japan may buy the Typhoon. Although the F-22 Raptor was in his words "exceptional", it was not "absolutely necessary for Japan", and the Typhoon was the best alternative.[64] The F-22 is currently unavailable for export per US law. During a visit to Japan in June 2009, Andy Latham of BAE pointed out that while F-22 exports were restricted to keep advanced military technology from falling into the wrong hands, selling the Typhoon would take a "no black box approach."[clarification needed] [65]

The British North-South high speed railway line is complete. It links London to Birmingham, to Manchester, to Leeds, to Newcastle and finally to Glasgow. The trains travel at 250km/h and are designed to cut the number of inter-country flights.

Lines linking the train to Bristol, Liverpool and Edinburgh are also underway

Serious plans for the Severn Estuary Barrage are underway. The barrage will not only provide another crossing, it will be able to generate up to 5% of Britain's power- going a long way to reaching Britain's 25% renewable energy targets. It will also provide flood protection.

However, the estimated cost of such a project is upwards of £12 billion- although it will be partly privately funded.

Well the Indian manufacturing industry is fast on the rise. The USA's economy won't be totally crippled, and they are still China's biggest trade partner. Anyway, economic mumbo-jumbo aside....
