Asher looked out the window of the Lynx helicopter as it flew over the Korean border, he had still had no word from the commanders and now that it was fairly early in the morning, he knew he had to go and join in with this meeting personally. It was early April and the spring chill whipped at Asher's trench coat which he wore when going onto the field, to either brief men or observe things on the battlefield. The Field Marshal was frustrated with his Commanders, he knew they were only trying to do what was right but by calling a meeting to discuss a plan and not talking to him first, that was a strict no-no in his book.

"ETA 2 minutes," the pilot said through the mic in his helmet.

Asher observed the city of Kaesong drawing closer and ran through his head what he was going to say to the commanders when he arrived. He didn't want to come over too angry and dismissive; when he actually respected what these seasoned commanders, but then again... he didn't want them to think they could try and bully him into a rash decision, just because they supported it. He would have to be firm, yet respectful. Calm yet stern. Most of all he had to show them that in the end, it was the Commanding Officer's decision that gave the green light for operations; and it was going to stay that way.

The chopper landed in the square about 50 metres from where the commanders were gathered. Asher hopped out the door and walked briskly towards the men. He had decided to come alone and his trench coat flapped like the devil's cape as the lynx's rotors began to slow down and he came to a stop by where the commanders were. They all turned to him and saluted, which he returned before beginning speaking.

"Now gentlemen, could someone kindly tell me what the hell is going on here." The Field Marshal said in a menacing tone.

A Duke amongst Many

This was the culminating moment of the meeting, the climax of the battle. Life means a fair favourable war, death means another Iraq, another Congo, another Vietnam. The morning air was brisk and everyone was starting to get tired. This had to end now.

“Supply lines are only every empty when there is a major operation going on. Such as a major assault or defence of a key location. We all know that attacking the bridge during normal time might be suicidal, but undertaking the same operation when its empty and lightly guarded is whole other story. I suggest that when we attack Pyongyang we also strike Hyesan. Kill 2 birds at once. If we take out their main supply line during the assault then it may be an easy siege, but taking the capital city when their at full strength might be impossible, and even if do manage to take the city how are we expected to hold a city half way into their god dam country?.”

He had the attention of the officers, Drako finally felt his rank as colonel again.

“We can dispatch marines via the air force, during out attack, the infantry follows and the armoured divisions rolls in from the east via navy. Air support will be needed and I think it can be possible if we operate from a sea vessel.”

The morning air then lifted, the sun came out, and the short pleasant silence which followed Drako was interrupted by none other then the Field Marshal Asher himself.

Shit, was the only thing going through Drako mind when the man in blue himself walked into the town square.
I was once a Pretorian, I was once a writer, I was once child, I was once a fighter.

Im overjoyed to see all of you still keeping the Pretorian dream alive despite all the hardships that have come upon this community. I may not be a Pretorian anymore, but I dont think the Pretorians even exist anymore. What does exist is an outstanding group of individuals who continue to uphold the values that forged the Pretorian Division.

Good to see you guys.

"Well Colonel that is an interesting plan," Asher said dryly. "I just wonder whether you read all the pre-operational briefs that were sent to all commanders? Well as I'm sure your aware then that the Hysean crossing is not in our Area of Operation at ANY point in the future. We will not be going to north-east Korea under any circumstances. I have repeated time and time again we are tasked with the west coast and, while you are all capable commanders you seem to lack the ability to listen to your superiors. Now what thi-"

Colonel Drako piped up again.

"Sir, I realise this but surely we are the best troops in the Task Forces combined and this is a perfect job for our elite units," he said determined to get his point across.

Field Marshal Asher turned on him like thunder.

"I realise you are knew here Colonel, but that does not mean you can disrespect the chain of command and if you interrupt me again then you will be replaced by someone who is more able to listen to his superiors," he snapped. "Now I don't give a damn if we're the best damn troops that have ever lived, we're tasked with assaulting Pyongyang if we ever get there and it will be Joint Task Force 3's job to secure the North East. Your plan does not even require us as the other task forces are just as well equipped."

He paused for breath, staring Darko straight in the eyes; daring him to interrupt him. The tensions was razor sharp as he spoke. It was so quiet all could be heard was the sound of the wind rustling through the city and the slow breathing of the gathered men.

"Now if you don't already know tensions are high at the moment and in some cases between commanders... The last thing this task force needs and more specifically that I need right now; is an overly ambitious commander who seems to have a problem with respecting the chain of command. Now do you understand me, Colonel Darko? Or are me and you going to have a problem?"

Back at the base, several miles south of Kaesong, the Paras were enjoying another nice (Well, as nice as it got out here) meal and celebrating the recent success. They knew they would be back out on the line again before long, so made the most of moments like these.

However, after the meal, Major Peacock and Major Turney retired back to their rooms in order to right the death letters to the 4 dead Paras families. It wasn't the first time either of them had done it. In fact, both had done so two nights before. Turney had had to write 8 and Peacock 2. Everyone tried to put death to the back of their minds, if you let it eat away at you, you couldn't function properly as a soldier. But while they wrote those letters, they could think of nothing else but the men they had lost over the years. Battle fields changed- death didn't.

Lt.Anderson was in the hospital visiting the wounded of his platoon. He wasn't allowed to see several of them- out of the 4 wounded in his platoon, 1 had lost a limb, and one had lost his sight in one eye. He thought about how close he was to dying in the Chinook landing, and how close the whole of 3 Para had been to getting surrounded and either captured or killed back at the base. He might have been in the middle of a war zone, with the danger of dying being pretty constant- but he felt lucky.

He then went back to the barracks, shared a few stories with his men before falling into a restless sleep.

Robertson on the other hand, was still at this meeting. It was a very awkward situation. None of the Co's knew what to say, or if they should say anything at all. They just listened to the Field Marshall rant, and Major Drako try and justify his crazy plan. Not only that, he had to write another AAR of Operation Leveler when he got back. It would be a long night he thought to himself.

Colonel Anderson got up and walked towards the LZ. He was planning on heading back to the airstrip in South Korea. Unless higher would make a temporary airstrip in Kaesong then Anderson would stay close to where his men were. A few moments later the Chinook arrived. Anderson raised his arm to shield himself from the dust and wind caused by the chopper. Once the ramp lowered a few replacement soldiers got out and Anderson boarded the chopper. Anderson had heard that another man named Lt. Anderson had been shot down. He found that quite funny, even during a war you can find a peson who has the same last name as you. There had been much confusion within his men. They all thought that their Anderson had got shot down. But he was live and well.

"Really? Ha ha ha! I'm glad I left it then!" laughed the colonel as he heard about the ending of the meeting.
"Oh that was good. Ah I feel sorry for him. Stamford. Go over there and invite him to the battalion BBQ tonight. Actually. I think i'll risk it. Invite all commanders to the BBQ. Including the Field Marshall." said reynolds.
"You mean the BBQ that we nicked from the Korean depot? Sir. It's only a couple of crappy sausages!" exclaimed the sgt.
"Yes but when roasted on a ration pack burner. mmmmmmmm" joked the colonel.
"Will do sir!" replied the sgt.
"Thank god for that. Now I maybe able to get some sleep." said Reynolds to himself.

"Haha Colonel Reynolds is holding a BBQ? Now that's strange. Hayes, come with me. Let's go eat some sausages."Anderson joked to Hayes, his second in command and most trusted military friend. They both laughed and headed off to the BBQ. Along with some packs of all Canadian.....Maple Syrup.

Richardson totaled up 3 Paras casualties for the duration of Operation Snake Bite:

Battle for Kaesong= 57:
Dead= 19
Wounded= 38

Ambush= 5:

Dead= 2
Wounded= 3

Operation Leveler= 10:

Dead=4
Wounded= 6

Total= 72:
Dead= 25
Wounded= 47

Number of men in 3 Para out of the original 700 who are still fighting fit= 628
Casualty rate= 1 in 10.

Damn Richardson thought to himself. Thats a lot of casualties for just over a week of fighting. 1 in 10 was about the average casualty rate of 3 Para on a 6th month tour of A-Stan. He had a feeling many more casualties were to come.

Major Jensen cut in as the Field Marshal and the New Colonel kept discussing.

A brief salute made sure that he wasnt forgetting that he was talking to a superior officer.
"Field Marshal. I am sorry to say that i actually agree with the Colonel. We cant expect to win this war without Chinese Intervention. If we take P'yongyang we willl have several million chinese soldiers heading towards us. And it will be over that bridge. This is a tough political choice since we cant declare war on the Chinese as we cant prove they have done anything wrong. Their weapons trade with North Korea is one that is legit and justified. This doesnt fall into our jurisdiction either, but we cant expect those sacks of crap over at JTF 3 to get the job done once the Chinese come.
I also know that we cant spare a single frontline unit here. Thats why i am...."

Jensen breathed in hard knowing what he was about to say would most likely cost the lives of his men, but also save many more once the Chinese entered the war.

"Thats why im volunteering for the job. A couple of days from now, you tell the Supreme Commander that my men and i have gone AWOL. You can then announce it to the international community and the chinese.
They will off course be invited to check the files and they would find that the information that we gave them is correct.
We will move in and take out any key bridges at the Chinese-Korean border and then move south and surrender to the UN. I will off course be shot for desertion, but my surviving men will be given their freedom, as they thought they were acting under orders from high command."

Richardson's stony face slowly turned to an expression of pure shock. He thought Drako was nuts, now he thought Jensen was absolutely insane. He thought hard. There was no way in hell Jensen would succeed with just 100 men- even if they were the Jaegerkorps. Richardson had 628 men. 628 of some of the most elite men in the British army. 628 men he promised himself he would look after.

But he reasoned himself. The Koreans would never expect it. Who would be crazy or stupid enough to jump into a city 400 miles away, with millions of Kirk soldiers between the target and our front lines?There might be the slimmest chance that this mission would succeed- it could turn the tide of the whole war.

Richardson spoke up.

"Sir. Colonel Drako here may have a point. If we can find a way to jump into that city, the Koreans would never in a million years expect it. There is certainly no chance that whoever jumps into that city will be able to link up with UN forces, and they certainly won't be able to retreat into China without being handed back over to the Koreans.

But the city is about 100 miles from the Russian border. If we can neutralize the target, there is a slim chance that we could get as many men over that Russian border as possible. After all, they are neutral, and it is not within Russian interest to have a border as unstable as N.Korea.

Sir, if you agree to such a plan, I have 628 Paras willing to carry out the mission. After all, we can't let Major Jensen here and his Jaegerkorp go in without support."
