So I started this for two reasons, a to tell everyone about your compaigns, and B to get help because I need some.I am playing RTW mod Rome total realism. So Im playing on VH/VH and have conquered Spain, All of North Africa and Sicily. My main enemy are the Romans. So I recently aquired a general named Acephelius Barca (I know I was suprised to get a Barca, im hoping he will be father to a Hannibal ). He is 5 star and leads the main army is resistance to the mighty Romans who now control all of the Italy. Onder usaul circumstanced I would be able to crush the Romans. However The gauls, my long time allies have decided to turn on me and harrass my armies in the North of Spain (that I planned to send into Italy from the North to get some easy captures and take pressure off barca). In terms of Navy I am much more dominant. My navy completely wrecked thiers and all the port towns on the west of italy and under blockade. Now Barca has been enjoying a number of victories that has stalled Roman military growth, however in my last battle my trusty elephants saw thier last light, say goodbye to broken enemy moral. Any suggestions? Btw I cant afford to spend too much on armies, im making roughly 8000 denarii a turn and have about 95k but elephants are 2.5k (the good kind) and cst 2000 upkeep, and this time I plan to have 2 of them (quicker victories) My inital plan will be to try to get a solid peace with the Romans, Im hoping that if I blockade more cities, win some victories and take a city they will be so exhausted that they will be forced into peace and trade, but I have my worries. We have had several conflicts Already and I refused peace when seiging the southern most city of italy (which I now own but is lightly gaurded). |

okay got some questions first. 1): What units does Barca have left? 2): Where are your "main" (large) armies located? 3): How far ahead are the romans in their technology? |

Well Northern Spain shouldn't be too hard to defend. The enemy can only attack through certain directions, so if you have them guarded, Spain should be alright (Depends of how many men you have in Spain, and what unrest is like there though) I suggest you try and take the next city to the east of the one you have captured in Southern Italy before suing for peace. Should give you a solid foothold, and those cities are very wealthy, so it should help boost your treasury. From there, sue for peace. Give you time to re-build. However, from my experience, those pesky Romans always have a habit of bouncing back. Have you tried asking for peace with the Gauls? Should help free up a few men. Also, are the Gauls at war with the Romans? I am also guessing you have asked for trade rights with the other Mediterranean factions? Also, if they do not accept peace- if you own Corsica or Sardinia, you could always try launching an amphibious invasion into the North? (Seeing as you have Naval superiority) I haven't played in a while, but it seems to me you are doing fine. Edited by Finn 1939, Feb 28 2009, 04:16 PM.

My experiance from playing ( mainly as Greek cities) is that once the romans have their eyes on one of your cities as a prize you'll be in for a long one. you should try to maintain naval supremecy and if you can afford to, build a number of forts along the border with rome* and just try to hold them off while you deal with the weaker gauls*. *I'm assuming that Rome is the stronger of the two |

perhaps. Is the city they are after important to you? If you can trade it in for peace. THen you could save up enough money to get your war machine ready. |

So I took your advice and I managed to take Capau, my Naval supremecy allowed me to bloackade each and everyone one of thier ports! They are bleeding money, im down to 65k but that due to the fact that I am trying to get a military powerhouse in Sicily. We fought many battles in Rhegium (toe of italy) and Capau. So far I still hold the cities, in the most recent battle my battered army in Rhegium (1200 men) engaged over 2000 Romans, we won, but just barely. Im left with only 500. I plan to get Barca out! I cant risk his life. I plan to build more troops. The men I had with barca were peoni (who were the men who held the line long enough for myself to be able to circle the enemy), and spearmen (RTR exclusive). I hope to sue for peace, but i have a very crappy diplomate in rome, I hope to send my best from mecedonia to rome. I need this peace The Gauls and I have unnofficial peace at the moment. Its been 10 turns and no engagement. It suits them well after all I killed 4 stacks with one army going from northern spain to northern italy (skirmishers and cavalry are my friend :)) Ya so...Im making 10 000 a turn now, so I can afford some armies

Nice. Do the Romans still have a big military presence in the South? You seem to be on top of things, if you reckon you have the money, you could always try going for Rome? This has got me inspired to re-install Rome (and RTR). I can't run ETW, so this is the next best thing. Edited by Finn 1939, Mar 1 2009, 08:55 PM.

Well I managed to get Barca and Hamalcar The Conqueror back to Sicily and Carthage (one each) and supply them with fresh armies, this time consisting more of peoni and more italian mercenaries. I lost Capau after Halalcar left it, it was 500 vs 1200 I had no chance, however I managed to grab Croton very easily with Barca (who is now 7 stars ,I may have my Hannibal after all ). Barca is Currently headed north to try to take another coastal city, however he was intercepted by a generaless Roman army of 3000. Its 2100 vs 3000 and 7:5 odds. However I have one trick up my sleeve, a full stack of elephants ![]() Hamalcar just touched the Coast of Rome. I know its risky, but Rome has a very great blacksmith, it has given the army im fighting now full silver armour (mine have bronze). I plan to sack rome (it only has 4 units in it) and destroy its citizenship build (basically the building that allows a country to build its finest troops, there are levels to, like a temple, it replaces the baracks as well), and destroy any building I can ( I did this in Capau before my general left, so they cant make troops from there for atleast another 8 turns.), then i will abandon it for the romans to take as I dont have the resources to hold it for long. _____________________ @ Finn Hav eyou ever played RTR, if you havent I highly reccommend it, its much more fun and balanced then RTW and the Romans arent so over powered and are histoical (only one faction, not 3). I warn you though, its harder :). |
