*Major Leiper went to the morgue to confirm the Idenity of the solider he lost that day. He then visted the two soliders in the medic tent. The burnt soldier was still out of it and was being flown to bastion in 30mins along with Tommy's body, The soldier who took the bullet to the shoulder was being flown back too but was so high up on Morphine he was unable to speak*

"Waht a shit day" the Major muttered as he returned to his quarters.

*Colonel Slater sat down at his desk and began to write his After Action Report for the day after all the hostile action that had occured, this would be sent to all the company commanders*

To all company commanders of the 3rd Joint Operations Mechanized Battalion,

After action report of Day 5 of Operation Apex:

Charlie Company first got into a contact at around 11:30 AM this morning, local time, when mortar rounds began landing in and around the compound where Royal Engineers were building a well for local villagers. A Sniper from Charlie Company fired a warning shot at the dicker who was guiding the mortar fire in, from a firing point 1 mile south of their location. The QRF of Alpha Company was dispatched to their aid in 2 Piranhas and 3 EagleIV's, to try and provide fire support. As they were approaching Charlie's position, they spotted many Afghan men approaching with RPD's and RPG's. Alpha fired upon the men and managed to kill or wound many of the militants, however some managed to return fire and take up firing positions in a compound, however the mortar team was taken out by the vehicles 50 caliber machine guns. They confirmed 9 Taliban KIA and more wounded before moving back to the FOB.

With the Enemy entrenched in the compound, Alpha company requested some Fast Air support to take out the enemy compound and this request was accepted. A Harrier GR8; callsign Topman, dropped a 500lb bomb on the compound and the compound exploded, leading us to believe that an armaments dump was inside. No Taliban emerged from the compound and an expected 6-7 militants were KIA. Charlie Company moved back to base a few hours later, after the well was finished and no more militant activity appeared. Some false intelligence was given to Delta Company on the location of a Taliban compound and therefore no recon was needed, after a UAV confirmed it was not a Taliban compound.

At around 04:00 PM local time, Charlie company was ordered to go out and patrol Village 3 to the South of Mount Belfast and Foxtrot Company's Mortar Platoon was ordered to be on standby for fire support, as well as the Snipers already in covert OP's on Mount Belfast. By 04:45 PM the company was patrolling the village but no residents were to be seen, and the company commander suspected that the Taliban were near. Soon small arms fire began impacting around them and the company making a run for the nearest compounds, with two taliban being killed by gunfire and one by a knife to the neck, as the men stormed a compound. Foxtrot's 51mm Mortars began firing but were ineffective due to the soft ground and vegetation around the village.

Charlie Company had come under immensely heavy small arms fire and Private Tom Fraser (Age 19) was confirmed KIA after taking a round to the side of the head. The company began returning fire with a GPMG wounding 5 Taliban and 1 KIA by the Major's SA80. 81mm mortar fire from FOB Fennec began coming in on targets and a grenade thrown wounded 3 Taliban in the open, however a Corporal had taken a bullet to the shoulder in the conflict. The 81mm mortars confirmed two enemy killed and maybe more wounded, while Alpha Company was once again dispatched as QRF to the Village to try and Evac Charlie Company. After an RPG hit the compound, a private suffered 4th degree burns but no shrapnel wounds and no other men were injured.

Warriors and Mastifs were dispatched from the FOB to try and evacuate Foxtrot's snipers and mortar platoon and recon platoon who were putting supressing fire down and the 51mm mortars put smoke rounds into the village to cover their retreat. Charlie company was picked up by Alpha's QRF and brought back to base, while Foxtrot held out for a few minutes until the Mastiffs and Warriors turned up, who opened up on the advancing Taliban with heavy weapons. Foxtrot confirmed 5 enemy KIA and more wounded. Pvt. Fraser was evacuated along with the other two troopers to Camp Bastion, to be treated there and all units returned to base safely.

Casualty Tally's for the day's combined conflict:

Taliban- 29KIA
Over 30 wounded

ISAF- 1 KIA
2 Wounded.

Colonel Richard Slater, Battalion Commander.

Major Kahlke read the report several times before closing it. He could only guess how Leiper felt, it must had been tough loosing a soldier.Kahlke promised himself that none of his members would be left behind

(nice AAR path)

Finn 1939

Major Travish finished reading the AAR (Thanks for that BTW). It had been a tough day, especially for the Scots. Many men in his company knew Tommy, and he would be greatly missed. Travish was just thankful no-one in his company was hurt. He had wrote a number of letters of condolence in his time in Iraq, and earlier tours in this hell-hole, and it never got any easier.

The good news was that Terry had taken a beating today, and the death of Tommy had made everyone even more determined to get back at those responsible.

*The 6th day of Operation Apex, had been quite relaxing for Colonel Slater after the hectic events of Day 4 and the patrol into Village 3. Charlie Company had been truly exhausted, so he had put them on checkpoint duty.*

"Charlie One Zero, this is Sunray. Anything unusual been sighted at the checkpoint today? Over."
