@abacap, sure you can have a dog. And you clever character you, how'd you know the dogs were blind? Some one's been researching... *MUTANT DATA ENTRY* Blind Dogs Several generations of the dog species have lived and died since the catastrophe. Each was more affected by the Zone than the previous one. Rapid mutation lead to a vast improvement in previously peripheral abilities, frequently at the expense of primary ones. The most notable biological change was the loss of sight, paired with an uncanny development of smell. As it turned out, blind cubs survived in the Zone as well as normal ones, if not better. As a result, the common dog quickly became extinct in the Zone, giving way to a new breed - that of blind dogs. The animals instinctively identify and avoid anomalies, radiation, and other invisible dangers that plague the Zone. Like their wild ancestors - the wolves - blind dogs hunt in packs. An encounter with a large group of these animals can be dangerous even to an experienced and well-armed stalker. ![]() Personal Notes Blind Dogs are pretty weak but during the beginning stages of the game a pack of Blind Dogs can still be very dangerous - I've even seen experienced stalkers fall prey to packs, in spite of them carrying powerful weapons. Locations Blind Dogs can be found in almost any area of the Zone but they tend to be dominant in Cordon, Garbage, Agroprom Research Institute and outside the control point at the Bar. *ARTEFACT DATA ENTRY* Jellyfish Is formed in the Springboard. Forms a weak protective field whose side effect is a slight radiation. The artifact is widespread and not very valuable. ![]() Radiation +5 Bulletproof cap +2% After successfully navigating the anomaly field your character has learned how to better spot the Springboard anomaly before it's in range of the detector, by identifying certain signs of it's presence! @ONI: "Catch? What on Earth makes you think there's a catch? Take this shit, don't open it, deliver it, and bring the money back here. It's a very simple job for a very simple minded Rookie. Now get your ass over there before I lose a very important customer!" |

A newcomer walks into the camp, but this one is different. He came from the North, from further into the Zone, rather than from the South where all the rookies arrived from. This STALKER was also extremely well equipped, carrying an AN-94 with an OSP-1 scope attached to the top, and a GP-25 grenade launcher hooked on under the barrel. From his hip swung a P-90. His suit looked military in origin, but it also appeared to have been customized with extra plating, Kevlar, other materials, and an improved air filtration system. It was a suit that had been made for living in the Zone and no place else. It was also very worn, covered in dirt, grime and, in some places, dried blood. The mask/helmet combo completely obscured his face, but by the way he carried himself and the slight movements of his head could tell the trained eye that he was paying very close attention to his surroundings, looking for things invisible to the untrained or inexperienced eye.![]() Despite his covered face, Wolf recognized him immediately and shouted, "Hey, Red Fog! What brings a Master STALKER such as yourself to the Cordon amongst all us humble rookies?" Red Fog then walked up to Wolf and gave him a quick embrace, but when he started talking it seemed as though he wasn't looking at Wolf, more like he was looking past him, "Wolf, my old friend! It's good to see the Zone hasn't claimed you yet. I hope you have teaching the younglings well so that their luck should be as good as yours." Wolf looked to the ground now, "I certainly try Red, I certainly try. But most of these Rookies, they're just not made for the Zone. And when the Zone wishes to claim someone for her own... well, you know better than I that it is impossible to stop her." "Indeed, she is a being that commands the utmost respect, and those that don't give that respect to her, come to a swift end. However, in my travels through the Zone, I have come to believe that she also protects those who do respect her, and treat her properly, and also bestows upon them, great rewards. Anyway, as for why I'm here, I put in a special order from Sidorovich about a month ago and it should be in now. You know how long and how expensive a process it is to get a custom order." "Well I'll see you later friend, and may fortune guide your travels." "As yours Wolf, as yours." With this Red then made his way to the Bunker where Sidorovich resided. "How are you doing you old, fat bastard you?" Sidorovich looked up, "If you didn't bring me such great artefacts and a lot of money to buy stuff with every time you visited me, I'd shoot you for saying that. Alas, I'm afraid that short pleasure would cost me a fortune in the long run. Anyway, I know what you're here for. Good timing two, came in just two days ago." With this, Sidorovich reached under his counter and brought up a case and placed in on the counter facing Red who then opened the case and let out a long, drawn out whistle. "It certainly wasn't easy or cheap to get that here you understand? Not too mention the ammo. Let's see, you paid me 50,000 Rubbles down, now after all the shipping, bribing, purchase of the weapon and the ammunition... you owe me another 250,000 Rubbles. So how will you be paying that?" "Well first, I want you to take a look at this." Red fished in one of his larger pockets for a while before pulling out a large, white, glowing orb about six inches in diameter. This time it was Sidorovich's turn to let out a long drawn out whistle. "I have never seen an artefact like this..." "Niether have I, I was hoping maybe you'd been passed along something like this before and could tell me a bit more about it." "No, I certainly have not. Where did you find it?" "I was looking around in Red Forest, just out of range of the Brain Scorcher. I was fighting off a pack of Snorks, one pounced on me, and I started reaching out along the ground for something to beat him off of me with, low and behold my hands came upon this. Used it to bash the poor thing's head in." "Heh, you were always the lucky one, weren't you Red? Well I'll have to run some tests on it, see what it's attribute's are, and then contact some buyers outside the Zone and see how much they'll be willing to pay to get their hands on an artefact like this. I'm thinking it'll be pretty big bucks Red. I should have the tests done by tomorrow, and then it'll take a while for to get a good buyer on the outside. Plan on staying here a while?" "Why not, I'm sure wolf could use my help with somethings around here, and maybe the rookies will be able to learn something from me. You can keep my special order until you sell that artefact I gave you. I won't be needing it here in the Cordon." "Suit yourself Red." With that, Red Fog left the bunker, and then sat at the campfire of the Rookie village. |

Johnathan had been informing Mikhail of the job for some time before the one who was called Red Frog returned to the camp. The way he walked, the way he swaggered it reminded Johnathan of the Mercenaries he had seen in Bosnia. This guy had seen it all from knife fights to sniping this guy was an expert and the respect he comanded only cemented this suspicion as fact. Johnathan leaned over to Mikhail and whispered to him. " That guy, the one they call Red Frog. You seen him before?" |

Mikhail shaked his head. "No, he must be from the north. That kind of military equipment isnt around here" Jonathan looked at the man, Mikhail didnt as he sat with the back to him. "love at first sight" muttered Mikhail. They both laughed. "Now dont get jealous Misha". They stopped laughing after a while, having gathered most of the camps attention. "well" Mikhail spoke. "we have a job to do" He rose, picked up his 2 makaravovs and loaded them. It felt good. Mikhail liked guns, they made him more brave than vodka did. |

"Wait a second ... why wouldnt we ask this .... expert on the situation of the car park? Intel is always useful" Johnathan could see that Red Frog had heard him and he felt no need for any repetition. "So ? What do you know ?" |

Red hears Johnathan and shouts out, "It's Red FOG damn it! You know, like a foggy mist, or cloud low to the ground? Not some god damn amphibian! Sheesh!" After degrading the rookie he sat back down, then removed his mask, unzipped his knapsack and pulled out a bottle of vodka, some sausage and some bread. Red sliced up the sausage, cut the bread in half and made himself a nice little sub. He then grabbed two nearby sticks and propped the sandwich up over the fire until it was nice and toasted, all the while occasionally sipping some vodka. He then enjoyed his meal in silence. Until he noticed a lone STALKER returning from the anomaly fields to the north with a blind dog behind him. He made a movement as though to bring up his rifle, but stopped himself as he realized that the dog was the STALKER's companion. He then stared inquisitively for a few moments and then finally busted out laughing. "Well that's a blessing from the Zone if I've ever seen one! Come, sit here friend, have some vodka, for you must be good luck to have found such a companion. You're friend can have a slice of sausage as well." |
