April 12, 2006, 02:33 p.m.

Chernobyl zone was lit by an intolerably bright light. The clouds were evaporating in the silver bright sky with a thunder and earthquake to follow. People fell on the ground facedown closing their bleeding eyes and ears. The glow spread over an immense territory which was subsequently called the Zone. People ran away saving their lives.

It looked like a radioactive explosion at the nuclear plant occurred. The army sealed off the Zone... The explosion epicenter was a kilometre away from the nuclear plant. Obviously, some tests had been held there and they caused the disaster.

Presumably, the entire personnel died within seconds, but still there was a probability of survivals among the staff. It appeared impossible to arrange a rescue operation, as the Zone was characterized by strange energy disturbances posing mortal danger to the explorers. Attempts to use robots were unavailing. Several months after the accident the crisis situation peaked when the Zone abruptly grew five kilometres bigger.

People from nearby towns and villages were urgently evacuated, and the peril of a difficult-to-imagine scope loomed over the world.

Year 2008

The Zone exploded, radioactive clouds covered vast territories. A dreadful amount of people, animals and forests perished. Thirty kilometres of the area got cordoned off by the army, scientists failed to explain what had happened.

The Zone grew, various death-bearing anomalies were spotted inside. Some invisible force tore living beings apart, inflicted awful blood-sputtering wounds. Expeditions faced mutant animals, unlikely to have appeared in the Zone through natural course of evolution. The catastrophe, mutants, anomalies, contamination? Everything appeared to be a consequence of some eerie phenomenon?

Year 2010

First expeditions can enter the Zone several kilometers deep without mortal danger. Amateur researchers, marauders and poachers, called stalkers, show up. They move around the Zone searching for various anomalous formations, i.e. artifacts, they would sell to various organizations.

2012.

Six years have passed since the time of the Second catastrophe which made the April events of 1986 fade into history, and a new generation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s prepare to take their first step into the zone. Are you one of them?

This RPG is based on the video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl and it's prequel, Clear Sky. It's based on an alternate reality where a second explosion rocked Chernobyl and set off a chain of events leading up to the creation of the Zone. The Zone is an area close to 30km in diameter with the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant at it's center, in which various kinds of dangerous mutants thrive, bandits wait around every corner to rob and kill, the military runs regular patrols and shoots anyone in sight, and strange phenomena that defy the laws of physics called anomalies can implode, explode, rip apart, burn, freeze, melt or any number of things to those unfortunate enough to step into them. Yet hundreds of people brave all these dangers and more in order to find and sell strange items called artefacts. These artefacts hold unique and amazing abilities and scientists everywhere are willing to pay top dollar to get their hands on them.

You will be taking the role of a rookie Stalker, who has just entered the zone. Inexperienced, poorly equipped, and unused to the strange new environment, most rookies don't last more than two weeks in the zone before meeting an unfortunate end. Your goal is to survive, and then to thrive and become one of the legendary Master Stalkers by fighting off hordes of bandits, mercenaries, soldiers, and dangerous and strange mutants, and to navigate fields of invisible and deadly anomalies and radiation in order to obtain precious artefacts which can then be sold or traded for money, guns, ammo, armor, food, or any other equipment you may need to survive. But remember, nothing comes cheap in the zone, and some artefacts are becoming less valuable due to their more frequent appearance. Now you must venture deeper into the zone, and the deeper you get the dangers and the possible rewards increase.

Aside from the obvious unrealistic survival horror nature of this game, it is meant to be played realistically. You must find or buy food and drink regularly to keep your energy up and to make sure you don't starve to death. You can only hold so much weight, and the more you carry, the less distance you can sprint in attempt to evade your deadly enemies, so be sure to carry only what you need and try to be conservative with your ammo, there's only so much of it in the zone. Fire fights are deadly, a good shot to your vital organs or head spells instant death, and bullet wounds to your gut or extremities will make everything harder, and if not treated quickly, can spell death. Armor can help, but weapons with good penetration such as assault rifles can still punch through. The same applies to your foes. If they're wearing good armor and if you don't have any high caliber weapons or AP rounds, you're gonna have to go for a head shot. If they're wearing a helmet, a face shot or extremity shot, if they're wearing the really advanced stuff, you're gonna have to run, or pray you got buddies close by that can take him out.

There are some dedicated traders in the zone, though they are few and far between. If you find yourself desperately needing to lighten your load, try to trade with a nearby loner, or if you have to ditch the stuff you don't need that's of little value. The primary goal is to use your anomaly detector to find anomaly fields in which you can venture and find the precious artefacts you need to make a living. It's not easy though, most anomalies can't bee seen with the naked eye, and so you'll have to throw bolts, rocks pebbles, bullet casings, even coins if you have to in order to figure out a safe path through the field.

I'll be playing the role of game master. I determine what the traders are selling, how much they want for them, and how much they're willing to pay for them. Certain traders will be willing to pay more for certain items than others. Also traders or other Stalkers may be willing to pay you to accomplish certain missions for them. I'll also determine what you find when you go places, you then decide what you wanna do based on the situation given to you or your party, and then I either describe how the situation changes or roll to see how well you faired. WARNING: You can, and will die in this game! The zone is a very dangerous place, and you can't get the feel for that I don't let you die. To prevent death, avoid doing stupid things, like fighting bandits when you're out gunned and outnumbered 10 to 1, and get better equipment before advancing deeper into the zone. Oh and dear god, please don't go attacking the military at the begining when you only have a crappy pistol just so you can get an Ak-74, cause that's plain stupid and you WILL die. I'll also be taking your character's experience into consideration as well. You'll all be starting out as pretty much complete imbeciles and an embarrassment to Stalkers everywhere, and most of you will have never fired a gun before in your life. But has you survive and thrive you'll become a better shot, use cover better, and learn to work well with teammates, NPC's or other players. I'll also take the role of an experienced master stalker who'll make a few appearance in the game and possibly help you out every now and then.

K, here's the map of the Zone we'll be using:

Everyone will start off in the Cordon, the rookie area:

Rookie equipment.

PM Makarov 9mm Pistol -Uses 9x18mm rounds. Holds 7 rounds in a clip, nothing remarkable about the pistol. Has very limited range, poor penetration, and only useful against unarmored targets and weaker mutants in close range combat.
50 9x18mm FMJ rounds -standard 9x18mm round. Incapable of piercing decent armor.
Leather Jacket -Your typical leather jacket. Provides minimal protect from radiation, fire, and rupture (knife, bite, claw) wounds, but not much. Hey it keeps you warm right?
Low grade anomaly detector - If it beeps be careful! Also has a Geiger counter to see if you should vacate the premises.
Combat Knife -stab, slash, and bash. Kill stuff with it.
Binoculars -good for seeing things far away
PDA -GPS, map, radio, cell phone, PC all in one! How they hell you got it I'll never know, but it seems everyone in the Zone has one...

K, that's what you start out with. There's a merchant in the Rookie village, and that's where you start. Now go out, earn some money and get this game a going!

^^^ This is a really good idea but how do we stile our posts? Is it

1. * Character goes to Rookie Camp and finds a bandit *

2. Character walked cautiously through the field towards the Rookie Camp. He had heard the stories of what STALKERS did to each other and wasnt about to experience it if he could.

?? Or is it kind of like 4th Battalion?

It'll be more like you go out to a specific area, like what you did with #2 Templar, then I describe what you see there, or if something happens to you on the way. We'll use you #2 style as an example.

Templar's character approaches the Rookie village unseen. From here he can see the village consists mostly of two lanes of houses on either side of an old dirt road. Most of the houses are in poor shape, with missing boards, large gaping holes in the roofs, bullet holes, and damage that obviously came from old anomalies that had suddenly appeared inside or next to one of the buildings, creating a huge gaping hole. He can also see a number a STALKERs milling about. A particularly large group is gathered around a camp fire, eating, drinking vodka, sharing stories, and one starts playing a guitar and singing old Ukrainian folk songs. One guard is stationed at either end of the street, most accessible entrances as all the houses have connecting fences preventing easy access from a flanking position. Most of the STALKERs in the village are obviously rookies, wearing no body armor, and equipped mostly with pistols of old Russian make and the occasional sawn-off shotgun. They guards seem to be slightly better armed, both equipped with long barreled hunting shotguns. However, there does appear to be one STALKER wearing one of the locally made STALKER suits providing Kevlar and anomaly protection. He is also much more heavily armed that the others, carrying an Ak-74 assualt rifle, it appears that the other STALKERs treat him with an air of respect, and if he says something, everyone listens. It seems evident that he must be in charge of the camp.

At the west end of the village a small entrance to a bunker in the hillside can be seen. According to rumors, that's wear the Cordon merchant, Sidorovich, resides and runs his store.

Then, you take this info, and then describe what you then do. Such as going into the village to catch up on rumors, or ask the head STALKER of the village if he has any jobs that need doing, or see if there's a group of STALKERs about to leave on an expedition and see if you can join them. Or you could go all rambo and try to kill them. Wouldn't recommend it though. We'll see how this style works out, if it doesn't, I'll change it to something more along the lines of Ghost Town.

Oh, I also forgot two pieces of Rookie equipment every one starts with. Binoculars, and a fancy PDA that acts as a map, GPS device, radio, phone, data storage, note pad, etc.

Make a Character, give a little background bio if you wish, and you'll be starting in the Rookie village, so you can try talking to some STALKERs, see if you can join a group, find a job, or go out and explore for yourself. This is the Rookie area so it's not so dangerous if you keep away from the military outposts. Biggest danger would be running into a group of decently armed bandits by yourself.

Name: Mikhail "Misha" Yuryev

Mikhail entered the camp. Several people were chatting, eating and sleeping. Many of the Stalkers had rifles or at least better weapons than him. Mikhail realised he needed a job, and he needed it quickly. There must be some people looking for a new guy to do some work. Or at least go exploring with him.

The leader of the camp spots Mikhail, and waves him over. As Mikhail approaches he asks for his name.
"It's Mikhail, but my friends call me Misha."
"Well Misha, the name's Wolf, I run things around here, and I can see your pretty fucking new and are kinda clueless right now. Tell you what. I've got a job you can do for me. Recently a herd of Wild boars has settled in just East of the camp, and they've been harassing any passerbys and it's making it kinda dangerous to enter the camp from the East end. I've already got two guys getting ready to go take care of em, but a third would be a big help. Some poor bastard who had been here for a week or two recently kicked the bucket and I came into possession of his things. If you help my guys get rid of the boars, his shit's yours. whaddya say?"
