I sent this to both Brian Frons' e-mail addresses, bcc to Frank Valentini: Dear Mr. Brian Frons, I am writing to inform you that I, like many new viewers, had no interest in One Life To Live until the writing team led by Mr. Ron Carlivati began to tell the story of Oliver Fish coming out as a gay man. I used to scoff at OLTL as "the rapist soap," the way General Hospital is "the mob soap" and All My Children is "the abortion misinformation soap." However, the YouTube clips of Oliver's and Kyle's story were so good that I began to follow whole episodes, and I remained a viewer in anticipation of other timely, passionate and intelligently written stories such as Amelia's rally for marriage equality, the hate crime against Nick, and Kyle's love for baby Sierra. Stories like these have people watching OLTL that never watched a soap before. Before imposing a moratorium on such stories that have been unanimously praised by the soap press and attracted attention worldwide, did you enquire whether OLTL has any other characters or stories that are bringing in new viewers? The truth is that OLTL boasts the most modern and diverse cast of characters in daytime, a writing team that excels at creating the atmosphere of a small town, and a remarkably resourceful production team. It is a shame that you insist on showcasing insipid, demeaning stereotypes like Kim and Ford at the expense of promising and relatable characters like the delightful Evans family, romantic Charlie, and glamourous Layla. However, it's absurd to blame the poor ratings on a couple of supporting characters, no matter what their storyline was. Even if a million people quit watching during November sweeps because Kyle and Oliver were kissing once a week, wouldn't that be a million people who didn't care enough to watch hour upon hour, day after day of Mitch's macabre antics? A million people who didn't agree that Todd and Téa whining every day is must-see TV? OLTL has problems, but the socially relevant storylines are none of them. Please restore Kyle and Oliver to their rightful place on the canvas. I understand that you received complaints from a few homophobic viewers. Trust me, they're too lazy to stop watching. Instead of pandering to a demographic that is past its life expectancy, you had better try to attract new, younger viewers. I am looking for an hour of 21st century fiction every day. Can you supply it? Sincerely, REAL NAME OF BRHANNADA'S ARMOUR |

That we'll never see anything like Kyle and Oliver again for a good long while (if ever) . . . totally and completely and utterly SUCKS. |

Well, I have worked this late. But that's productive. This is not. And, if something goes wrong at work (as it usually does), there are a dozen people I can yell at who can make things right. No one I could yell at right now can make any of this right. |

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. ABC needs to address all of your concerns as you've articulated them in this letter. |

Kish Fic Laureate

I'm glad my interest in the couple waned after the start of this year, so I can focus on my life without being too hurt by this. It's sad, though, because I really want to see Kish get romantic again, just one more time. |
