was just on afterelton.com reading the "best gay week ever" thing and the editor pretty much understands the criticisms, etc...but doesn't think we should bash ABC....but then again, i am curious
mr. Frons works for the network of ABC, right? i mean, he has bosses higher up than he.
no matter what the show, do you think the verrrryyy top people in power have to be notified of these sort of things? firings, etc before it happens? i dont know how this works exactly...so i wanna make sure i know what i am talking about before i go off...haha ;-)
I do not know the exact cap structure of ABC. I do know that Brian Frons heads Daytime and SoapNet. So Michael Jensen is comparing apples and oranges here, as far as I know. Not an appropriate comparison at all. If someone knows more info than I as to the org chart, officers of ABC/Disney, then kindly correct me. So unless I'm mistaken, and I may very well be, AE's post is misinformed and, more importantly, seems to accept ABC Daytime's crumbs thrown at us as well as this continuing marginalization of LGBTQ's on television: I will say this about the ABC bashing going on: while I think it's perfectly appropriate to campaign to keep these characters and criticize the specific decision, I'd like to remind everyone that ABC Daytime actually did this storyline and totally went there with Kish. No network primetime show I can think of has ever made it as explicitly clear that two men had just had sex — romantic sex to boot! — as did OLTL.
As for ABC in general, not only did they give us Kevin and Scotty on Brothers & Sisters and Marc on Ugly Betty, but now we have Mitchell and Cameron on Modern Family. In addition, one of the network's more promising fall pilots is It Takes a Village which not only has Cheyenne Jackson, but has a gay lead character played by the out Christopher Sieber. That's right —two prominent gay roles played by gay men.
Perspective is important here. Let's not forget the fact that CBS has no gay characters, Fox only has Kurt on Glee, and NBC has two very secondary characters on shows about to be canceled anyway (Mercy and Trauma). Like, I said, it's perfectly fine to voice our concerns, but I don't think we do our cause any good when we throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Thanks for posting the quote from AE, j. Is this Jensen dude gay himself? If so, I'm going to be even more pissed off. He sounds no better than Frank Valentini. The LAST thing we need right now is another goddamn gay apologist for ABC. What ABC has done in killing Kyle and Oliver is just plain wrong, no matter how you spin it. I, for one, am not going to congratulate them for their hypocrisy given how they've kicked the entire worldwide GLBQT community in the collective teeth. Yes, Mr. Jensen is gay and is the Editor-in-Chief of AfterElton.Com.
Here's a link to his BEST.GAY.WEEK.EVER column.

So now is probably a good time to point y'all to the Postcard " Don't Put Kish in the Closet" Campaign that kishislove and I are trying to organize: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Kishmet/topic/3040416/1/We're still working out the kinks, but the plan is to bombard Frons, Anne, Frank, Ron, and the soap mags with postcards, letters, whatever. We're trying to get the first batch mailed out to Frons on Monday. If anyone has any comments, critiques, tips, anything, please let us know, we really want this to work! Thank you smuchshypush!!!!!
:fight:
Does it make sense to send some from Europe? Or is that counterproductive, you know as I can only know Kish from youtube, and they are not interested in youtube, as they do not earn money with that.

I think it is sad that they are leaving but I understand that they want to audition for primetime roles.
I saw this in the comments of the SoapNet article. People don't even realize they were FIRED! I really encourage everyone to comment on SoapNet since it is owned by ABC. Yeah, I was the one who added that comment. I don't know first hand, but get the idea from Scott Evans tweets on the matter (saying that his earlier tweets weren't forshadowing).

What? What is Michael Jensen smoking now that he's saying ABC shouldn't be bashed???
IMHO, ABC, via Fronsie and his minions, made their own bed when they killed Kyle and Oliver and, now that I think about it, Sierra Rose, too. Maybe if they had been more careful about how they worded the first report to break in the media -- the one that flat out told us Kyle, Oliver, and Sierra Rose were being written out because their gay story didn't resonate with mainstream viewers -- they wouldn't be so deserving of the bashing they are getting now. I don't feel sorry for ABC in the least. It's too late for them to cry foul. They fucked up and now they're gonna pay the price for it. :fight: :fight: :fight: :fight: :fight: :fight:
Here's the thing though: Michael Logan was the one who stated that he got "word" that KISH "failed to resonate with the mainstream audience." IIRC, TVGuide just had that short quote from Frank Valentini and nothing more. Everything else that was published in that online article was Logan's thoughts/theory on why KISH was killed. Although it pains the hell out of me to read this article again, much less quote from it, here's what I would point out:
Word is, the decision to drop the duo didn’t come easily. Kish has been a big success with the media and the show’s gay fans, and gay-advocacy groups have showered OLTL with awards for creating the trail-blazing couple. But sources at the network say the duo failed to resonate with the mainstream audience.
From my perspective, j, I don't think Logan was speculating on any of this. He got "word" from "sources" he obviously couldn't name at the time. Sources at ABC. In other words, I don't think it was all just his thoughts/theories. It seems to me he was being very savvy about reading between the lines of what he was told by his anonymous sources.
Maybe? :dunno:

Hell, for all we know, it was Frank or Ron who gave Logan that info under the condition of anonymity. :dunno:

So my vindictive side has been hoping OLTL gets canceled. I've been having second thoughts.
Firstly, RC is not to blame. He's likely been handed down an order from the higher-ups. I think he's truly sad about this.
Secondly, I keep thinking about the great actors on OLTL. KDP, TSJ, ES, etc… I would not want these talented actors to suffer. They have given a lot of dedication to their craft/fans (except for FF – she's just a bitch) so I hope that OLTL thrives. We've seen some of the BEST acting and stories on OLTL. I would LOVE to partake in an OLTL boycott to make a point, but I truly wish no ill will for these wonderful talents that have graced my screen.
May they all hunt down BF and place his head on a platter.

There are some here right?? I was a huge NUKE fan unitl things went sour. I think AfterElton were a big part of getting the kissing ban taken off and then the no sex clock counter.

Logan got leaked from sources at ABC who were authorized to leak the story, but wouldn't be named. I think they were scared by the whole baby story. As Kyle said "that's where many draw the line"....
