Mod Edit: Relocated of some posts here. Topic is "Would you accept a recast of Scott or Brett?"I agree. I don't think Scott or Brett are irreplaceable. They have only been in the roles less than 2 years so if the casting director does their job, they should find some good actors to replace them when or if Scott and/or Brett decide to leave. dkp, i disagree that it would be easy to find another guy to play Oliver who will have as much chemistry as BC/SE. Alot of times, in interviews etc, actors often talk about chemistry in all it's forms, friendship, family, but especially as couples and they nearly always say that chemistry like that comes along once in a lifetime. I remember Bradley Whitford and Janel Maloney saying the chemistry they shared in The West Wing was one of a kind, as did George Clooney and Julianne Margules in ER. I know it's not exactly the same thing but would 'Friends' have become so universally popular if other actors had played the parts, i very much doubt it, the six of them bounced off each other. I think chemistry in a love story is essential, and natual chemistry, which BC/SE have in spades, is not so easy to find. glamgurl, i absolutely agree. I wouldn't mind Kyle falling for someone else, starting a new relationship etc but Oliver would have to be dead for me to accept it. I'm sorry, but after the Show making such a big deal about Oliver being Kyle's soulmate, one true love, it would look stupid if they broke up, and then afew weeks later Kyle finds someone else. That would, imo, make a mockery of the whole Kish s/l. A re-cast in this situation just wouldn't work imo. I don't think i could watch tbh. Maybe i feel like this cause in the UK there is rarely re-casting of characters. Don't get me wrong it does happen every now and again, but not really concerning popular couples. Oh feel free to post whatever opinion you like. I'm not telling anyone how to feel. Just for me, I don't get the logic of if Scott leaves, either kill him off or give Kish a happy ending. To me, no one actor should hold a character or story "hostage", to me by saying only Scott can play the role of Oliver or that Kyle must be written off in Oliver leaves/killed is essentially doing that. It's probably no secret I'm more of a Brett/Kyle fan, but I'd be saying the same things should the situation be reversed. The character of Oliver isn't even the same person from when Scott took the role. When Oliver came on, he was the nerdy, geeky, techguy. That side of Oliver seems to be dropped, cause they haven't shown that side of Oliver in forever. So if a new guy came in and played Oliver slightly different than Scott, I don't see the difference. |

Oh I didn't say it would be an easy thing, cause it would be hard, but I don't think it's impossible. That's what casting directors are for. It's their job to keep searching for the right people. You search long and hard enough, you'll find someone who clicks with Brett. Great actors should click with more than just one person. I used to be very against recasting of roles, but after seeing several roles in several movies ands shows successfully re-casted, I'm more open to any roles recast. Characters on soaps naturally evolve and change even with the same person in the role, so a role changing with a new person in the role, is the same thing to me. |

I think most longtime US soap viewers are just used to recasts--some of them work out well and some of them don't work out well. A lot of iconic soap characters are actually not played by their original actor. I think if they recast Oliver (or Kyle) I'd say there was probably at most a 50-50 shot of it working out--but that's pretty much par for the course with recasts. A character like Luke Snyder on ATWT is being played by his 3rd actor and Van Hansis is far and away the best known--a recast can take a character to even greater heights or hasten their demise. Obviously we're pretty far into speculation territory but if Scott were to leave and assuming Brett didn't want to leave, I'd say recast Oliver and if the recast didn't work then get rid of the character of Oliver--at least give it a chance. And anyway, unless Kish are going to become as moribund as Nuke has become they'll have to break up at some point--even soul mates on soaps go their separate ways from time to time. I haven't fallen in love with an actor/character like Scott/Oliver in a long, long time, but I'm always down with recasts . . . to me, the preservation of the canvas trumps the success of/my affinity toward an actor. Some people see soaps' canvases as ever-changing and fluid, but I think once you set the dynamics and they work for you as a writer and for the audience, it's important to keep that going. Like on AMC, it's sorta blasphemy that Greenlee's back in a Fusion-centric story without Kendall. Despite how well an actor works with another or the popularity or whatever, I think the show's gotta go on, and unless I think a character truly has run its course or needs to be rested, I opt for recasting over writing out when an actor decides to leave. Sorry for the long-ish OT spiel, lol. |

See, I even agree with that, but if it can be avoided, I'm all for it! LOL! I'm not saying nobody can replace Scott, but I just wouldn't like it. Who knows, if we get a re-cast of any of the two, I might even like it... Doubt it though! I mentioned it before, it's the first gay tv couple where I really REALLY like both actors and both characters equally! So much so, that it's freaking me out :LMAO: ! But that's the reason why I'm 'against' a re-cast, whereas otherwise I wouldn't be, I guess. |

huh??? recast SE???? This is why i should never drink glasses of jesus juice on sunday. Maybe I read this wrong. I skim when my eyes are blurred. How could anyone recast SE??? He's not going anywhere. He's trapped. He has a baby. Kyle trapped him with the baby by finding out the truth and insisting Oliver discover it too. Can't do baby trapping hetero style, so it wa done gay style. and i love it!! Oliver is a coward. always has been. There are many facets to his life, and being a coward is one of them. BAM!!! :confetti: |

NOPE. So I want to elaborate a bit. Like I said before, for me it's the fact that I love Brett and Scott and their amazing chemistry they have as Kyle and Oliver that I just can't fathom the idea of having either of them being replaced by another actor. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, but I would not like it at this point of the story, seeing that KISH is still so very new and I'd love it to be developing a bit more. So I accidently deleted some people's posts on accident, but managed to move some of them over to this thread. Edited by dkp, Mar 7 2010, 08:05 PM.
