Culture can be a dicey thing (at best) sometimes here in Las Vegas! But I just got in from seeing a play at the Nevada Conservatory Theatre (which is housed on the UNLV campus where I work) that I thought would be almost perfect for Scott, Brett, and the soon departing-from-OLTL Amanda Setton. The play was Douglas Carter Beane's "The Little Dog Laughed," and, except for the outcome, I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's about a gay, closeted (Oliver, anyone?) Hollywood movie actor named Mitchell who is in New York on business with his lesbian-agent-from-hell, Diane. While in New York, Mitchell falls for a hustler (sort of Kyle, anyone?) named Alex who has a girlfriend (by the name of Ellen) and does guys on the side to make money -- but falls just as quickly and just as hard for Mitchell. Even so, Alex manages to get Ellen pregnant just as Mitchell is on the verge of coming out and settling down with Alex . . . and cynical mastermind Hollywood agent Diane (Kim, post pole dancing days, anyone?) engineers an ending for one and all that -- as an audience member, drove me nuts (but I won't give it away). While the actors who played Mitchell and Alex were terrific, I couldn't help envisioning Scott as Mitchell and Brett as Alex. Not that I'm trying to typecast the boys as a closet case and a hustler (although Kyle never hustled, of course, he just stripped; once), but I thought they'd both rock in the roles. And Amanda Setton would make the perfect, perfect bitchy and campy Diane. Not sure who could play Ellen, but three bases are covered, at least. |

i watched that play when they had their west coast premier here in san francisco at the new conservatory theater last september. while i didn't like the show that much (although the character diane is laugh out loud funny which i guess why the original actress won a tony award for it), i would like to see brett as the closeted actor... and scott would be the hustler. and i definitely see Ilene Kristen as the acerbic agent. amanda can play the bff of the hustler. btw - i hated the ending! :pfft: if ever brett and scott would do a play together - i hope they would do "Take Me Out". hehehehe!!!!!! the shower scene would be to die for!!!!! :halo: Edited by Markie27, Mar 7 2010, 01:35 AM.

although the play "take me out" is about a gay baseball player coming out to his team, i don't see brett and scott at all in those characters.... i just want to see them naked for more than 20 minutes during the famous shower scene. it's a scene in the locker room where 6 baseball players are completely naked in front of the stage and they talk about masculinity and homophobia. did i mention it was for more than 20 minutes of male full frontal glory?!?! :swoon: you can add mark lawson in the mix and david fumero!!!!!! oh geesh! i blame rhombus for this!!!! :devilinside: i'm just glad i didn't suggest "Naked Boys Singing"... nope.. i'm not going there! Edited by Markie27, Mar 7 2010, 01:54 AM.

The ending needs to be totally rewritten!!! :LMAO: Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry on the play: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Dog_Laughed Here's a link to the Wikipedia entry on the playwright: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Carter_Beane I didn't know DCB wrote To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. He also wrote a version of the 1980 musical Xanadu that was workshopped in 2007 with Cheyenne Jackson. Cool stuff. Edited by lasvegastony, Mar 7 2010, 02:25 AM.

As it happens, "Naked Boys Singing" is playing in one of the small theatres just off the Strip here in LV. I haven't had a chance to see it, yet. Maybe over Spring Break in April. And both Scott and Brett are pretty sporty guys by all accounts; they could probably play baseball players quite well on stage. |

The play sounds fab, except for the ending :annoyed: Diane sounds like a laugh. And if we're havig the cast of OLTL playing parts, we've already got Brett, Scott, Amanda and Irene, are there any parts for Layla, Christian and Brody, then all my favourites could be in aplay tegether - that would be awesome!!! The endong sounds stupid, how annoying to have enjoyed the whole paly, only for the way it ends to not sit right!!! I hate it when that happens! I think if Brett and Scott were ever in a HOT shower scene :thud: like the one you're decsribing, i'd need to have a cold shower to calm myself down. I'd feel like i'd have died and gone to heaven if that ever happned :LMAO: |
