Really? I have no clue about how these things work, but it seriously could make a difference to what reel the actors submit..? I mean, obviously it could, but the actors would know what to submit.. Or is there anyone to advise/guide them? How does it work. Do they talk about it with the director or other? Is it the actor's alone decision? And ROTFL about the plan!! Yeah, keep it in a safe place, for you might still need it, lol! |

LOL That was exactly my feeling while reading this thread!! :S Glad BC and SE made it to the pre-noms list. I don't know the other actors nominated, so I don't know about the chances they have to get the nomination or win. So you think it'll be difficult for Brett to make it?? And the decision is made based on the scenes they submit?? For BC, I still think his best scene was the alley argument and kiss (though 10/27 wasn't bad either). And for SE, I love both when Layla confronts Oliver about Kyle, or when he finally comes out to Layla and Cristian after sleeping with Stacy. The problem I could see with BC, regarding awards, is that he's very subtle and natural. He's one of these actors who makes acting look easy... I love this kind of acting, but it's something that isn't usually appreciated by the people who voted this kind of things (I see that every year at cinema awards...). But I don't know exactly how this Emmy thing works, either. Can two actors from the same show be nominated for the same category?? Anyway, I hope both of them make it, and of course, even if the chances are little, I hope they win!! (so yes, dkp and Anthony, don't put that plan of action too far... :P) |

TEAM ABS!

In Today's Soapgiest from Nelson Branco: As you may have read, this year any performer could submit himself or herself in to the race without the approval of the cast. One Life is the best example of how the new system rules changed the whole game. Reportedly, the cast voted on these pre-nominees: Actress — Hillary Smith, Erika Slezak Actor — Bob Woods, Jerry ver Dorn Supporting Actress — Florencia Lozano, Bree Williamson Supporting Actor — Mark Lawson, Brian Kerwin Young Actress — Kristen Alderson, Farah Fath Young Actor — Eddie Alderson, Brandon Buddy By agreement, anyone who was voted by the cast for a pre-nom didn’t have to pay the $175 NATAS fee as long as they made the final pre-nom list. Unexpectedly, self-submitted stars like Crystal Hunt paid their own fee and ended up making the final ballot. Here’s how the industry voted (changes in italics): Actress — Hillary Smith, Erika Slezak Actor — Bob Woods, Jerry ver Dorn Supporting Actress — Ilene Kristen, Bree Williamson Supporting Actor — Mark Lawson, Brian Kerwin, Brett Claywell Young Actress — Crystal Hunt, Farah Fath Young Actor — Scott Clifton, Scott Evans Do you see the difference? I see the difference. This proves what a misguided decision it was for NATAS to institute a cast pre-nom round. Had One Life’s original cast-approved ballot gone out into the industry for final nominations, it’s clear that half their nominees would never have made the nomination ballot. http://tvguide.ca/Soaps/Nelson_Ratings/Articles/100301_soapgeist_NB.htm So it sounds like CH, SC, SE, and BC got in cause people from other shows voted for them and not cause the OLTL cast voted for them. ...and Tika still didn't make the cast pre-nom round (reportedly)? I'm sort of shocked that the cast didn't vote in either BC or SE in their pre-nom slots, but yet the industry gave it to them. Although, it's a mixed bag--from Kris Alderson's and Scott C.'s tweets, Brandon Buddy (Cole) was robbed for his detox scenes, and Eddie A., I did hear, had some fantastic material with Matthew's paralysis. But as always, someone has to be cut and someone has to be nominated. At least most of OLTL's pre-nom list reflected, in the younger actor category, recognition that BB and EA did great work that should've been rewarded. But I also can't fault the final pre-nom list, as that put Scott and Brett in the running. Anyone else think that Brett has some name recognition in the industry, even as a soap newbie, because of his work on OTH? Beside the fact that Kyle and Oliver's romance has been pretty highly publicized in the soap press? He was a recurring character on OTH with a pretty big fanbase from that show, so perhaps that helped him out too :dunno: |

Very interesting. I can sort of understand why Scott Evans and Brett Claywell didn't get their fellow OLTL actor's support. With younger actor the show supported an actor who'd been on for nearly 9 years (Eddie) and one that's been on for 3+ years (Brandon)--both Scott's are the newbies to the show. I suspect Scott Clifton got in thanks to his GH pals (much like Crystal got in thanks to her GL pals and Farah her DOOL pals). I think Scott and Brett however got in on a mix of talent and buzz. As for Tika, she had powerful scenes back during Oliver's coming out but I think on the whole Florencia and Bree had more material. Of the 6 discrepencies (well 5 if you don't include Brett since he didn't knock out any of the shows preferred prenoms), 4 of them are of actors who've been on other shows (Ilene is a long time soap vet going back to her Ryan's Hope days).
