I'm with you on the C19 British Literature? Where would we be without Jane Austen, George Eliot, all three of the Brontes, Dickens, et al? |

Hi Superpope! I have yet to get to all of Faulkner, and I'm looking forward to doing so someday. But probably not until after I take the PhD (LOL) since I'm so busy working on that. Well, that and posting on Kishmet (LOL). I'm also quite fond of Go Down, Moses (although it's not, technically a novel), As I Lay Dying, and the short stories The Bear and, of course, A Rose for Emily. Faulkner is such a sensuous writer it's impossible for me to resist his work. |

I'm going to avoid the literary discussion because I'll never keep up with you Literature majors. Luke75b - I thought this captured many of the thoughts and emotions of the characters. They really are putting a lot of pressure on themselves. Loved this part. It describes how I see Kyle! I’m just happy that there are those times when Kyle will be gentle and caring and nurturing, but you can still see his inner core of fire and strength. Then there are the other times when he’ll be—maybe macho isn’t the right word—but sort of macho and tough and posturing, yet his gentle spirit is still there just underneath. The funny thing is I’m not sure which Kyle is hotter! |

Nice fic luke75b :nervous: Wow, a lota peeps are like ALL with lit an way edjacated in dis tred. Fortunately, me not. I thought the best part of your piece was what it didn't say. It speaks to me as a perfect outline of how people (especially unfortunately lovers) DO NOT talk to each other. All the bits you ran thru Kyle & Ollie's heads, were the very feelings and observations that needed to be shared. Sharing them would dispell the bad and augment the good. I wrote a series of Nuke fics (back in the day) all of which carried a running sub-theme: communicate. So my observation to those stumbling upon this posting is: THIS IS MY 500TH POST! I just noticed. wahoo for me! Yeah! Ta daa! :woo: Back to what I meant to type: TALK. The most important thing you can do to nurture a realtionship, is to keep communicating. And that goes not just for feelings, but FEELING. Tell your partner what feels good, what doesn't so much, what you would enjoy more of, what a little less. And ask how you can better return all favors. Great sex requires dialogue. Imagine if Kyle and Oliver were SAYING those thoughts to each other. There wouldn't have been half as many self-doubts floating around the story. Instead, they'd swiftly dispatch their mutual pain while simultaneously resonating each other's love. Alas, you'd also have a much shorter story to write! Thanx again luke75b. Yours is an instructive parable for real life. |

That's no excuse for being talented, thesuperpope You've got it, so be proud of it. There are plenty of people with all kinds of degrees who don't know squat (despite being over-paid and over-praised). Does your high school have a Gay-Straight Aliance? |

Thanks ltklo and Nukester. If I have a bit of free time this weekend I might actually write a second part (or maybe a separate stand alone) about what they were thinking after the love making this week. lasvegastony--cool Shakespeare. Of course the sad thing is I haven't read any Shakespeare since finishing college. thesuperpope--you've probably read more literature in the last year than I've read since leaving college. I'm horrible about reading fiction--I've tried reading At Swim, Two Boys at least 5 times and never gotten past page 100, I actually managed to make it all the way The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and loved it until the last few chapters and then hated it. In fact the only classic literature I've probably read is rereading a few Austen novels (and even there I've read Pride and Predjudice and Zombies more recently than any of the real novels). Like I said, I read magazines :LMAO: (though I do read a fair bit of nonfiction). I think I just got burned out on literature in college. :waah: Oh, and while I have a degree in English my job doesn't really ues it (my job just needed a college degree)--and plenty of college graduates are still as dumb as posts. Um no we don't have a Gay Straight Alliance. That would require people to like the gays not think i have a disease. Gotta love the South..... I read too much for my own good. I really do. I have never shopped in the teen section of bookstores. Ever. While everyone I knew was reading Twilight I was reading Faulkner and Ellis. It's odd. Edited by Popey, Jan 2 2010, 12:31 PM.
