Hi Kisher's! I have to finally post this. I have been obsessing over far too long! I hope you enjoy the end results. Chapter 6 As they slowly started back to the hotel, Kyle felt happier than he’d been in a long time. Something powerful was bubbling up from a place he didn’t fully understand or care to look at. He felt as high as a kite. He never imagined he would see the day that Oliver would risk himself like that. The fact that Oliver had risked himself like that for him had unlocked something deep inside his chest, but Kyle hadn’t connected that yet. Right now, he was just enjoying himself. He smiled and looked over at Oliver. Oliver seemed …not as happy. In fact, he still seemed a bit put out. No problem, he thought, I am an expert at cheering Oliver up. Oliver didn’t understand it. Was he supposed to prove himself in some way now? , he thought. He wanted to hope that Kyle wanted him back but the fact that he was so wasted didn’t make that easy. In fact, he kept visualizing the moment he would drop Kyle off at his apartment when Nick answered the door. The thought made his stomach churn. How could he fight for Kyle knowing that he was committed to someone else? Or, it suddenly occurred to him, could it be that this drinking binge was revealing a bit of what Kyle really wanted? He stole a look at Kyle. He looked incredibly impressed with himself, but there was something else going on, he thought. Kyle beamed him a truly open, heart-felt grin. Kyle jumped at Oliver’s glance at him, ‘So whaddya thinkin? And don’t give me any heavy stuff, only fun. It’s a night for fun.’ Oliver snorted, ‘You didn’t look like you were having fun when I came in the bar and found you. What started this binge anyway? Was it really to have a good time?’ Kyle couldn’t really remember at the moment. All he cared about was keeping this feeling going. ‘Well, I’m having fun now, right? Escorted by a hot officer of the law through the streets of Landview.’ He looked at Oliver to see if that cheered him up and gave him another huge grin as he saw Oliver glance at him again. ‘I think the only thing I could ask for is for him to relax and have fun too…,’ ‘Kyle, watch out where…’ Suddenly, Kyle felt himself trip forward, but he was immediately grabbed and held before hitting the ground, ‘Whoa. Nice save, Oliver,’ he laughed. ‘That’s what I’m talking about.’ Oliver chuckled to himself as he pulled Kyle’s arm over his shoulders again and nearly carried Kyle up the front hotel steps. Kyle always did like to have a good time, but then Oliver did too. They would take turns helping each other back to the frat house. He smiled at the memories, but sobered up as they started to climb the stairs to Kyle’s apartment. These weren’t the old days any more. Far, far from it, he thought. ‘Kyle, is someone waiting for you up here?’ The happy feeling definitely got kicked down a few notches, ‘What?’, Kyle stammered. Oliver said evenly, ‘I said, is Nick waiting for you to come home tonight?’ Nick usually called him, Kyle thought. He liked to see Kyle at the end of the day. Why didn’t he think about Nick before? His head started to pound. ‘No. I don’t think so.’ Oliver took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Here we go, he thought. He tried looking official, but no one answered. He knocked again, and again, no answer. The tension started to melt off his shoulders. He turned to Kyle, ‘Okay. Keys?’ Kyle hesitated. His brain still was wondering about Nick and not hearing from him. For a moment, he felt confused and a bit uneasy, but something stronger overshadowed these thoughts. He wanted the warm, happy feeling to continue and that was somehow linked to Oliver. Somehow he also knew that Oliver would leave when they opened the door. He didn’t want that to happen. ‘Why don’t we go back downstairs and find Roxy? She’s always got a drink…’ Oliver cut him off. ‘You’ve had enough. Let’s get you inside alright? Do you have your keys?’ Kyle still hesitated, ‘You know, I’m not really tired. We could go back…’ Oliver patted down the front of Kyle’s jacket for the keys and found them in his left front pocket. He grabbed them, unlocked the door, and turned on the lights all before Kyle even finished what he was saying. ‘Here you go.’ He nearly dragged Kyle across the threshold, held him as he closed the door, and walked him over to sit down on the bed. ‘Okay, here’s where you get to sleep this off. Do you have any water?’ Oliver’s eyes shot around the room as Kyle sat in silence on the edge of the bed. ‘I see it.’ He placed the water on Kyle’s nightstand and turned back to Kyle. Kyle’s eyes just followed him around the room. Oliver couldn’t understand it. What was going on? ‘Kyle? You okay?’ He crossed back to take Kyle’s jacket off him and when Kyle made no move to help him he knelt in front of him to take off Kyle’s shoes. ‘Kyle, you’ll feel better in the morning, I promise. Hey, you hear me?’ Kyle nodded, but he didn’t really hear what Oliver had said. He knew Oliver was leaving. He was floundering now. Whatever it was that lifted him so high seemed to be gone and it felt like the removal of it, left him worse off than before. He grasped out for Oliver who was still in front of him. ‘I don’t’ want you to leave.’ Oliver was completely taken aback. He believed him. The whole way back, Kyle had been happy and now he wasn’t. Was that related to him? Suddenly the thought occurred to Oliver that Kyle had reached out to him quite a bit tonight ….and reminded him of the many times before that he had pushed away or ignored. The thought shifted something inside him. Maybe it was his turn…to risk a bit more for both of them. Oliver was still kneeling on the floor in front of him. Oliver gently reached out to him. ‘Are you okay?’ Kyle nodded to him. ‘Why do you need me to stay?’ Could he explain it to Oliver? ‘I don’t know what’s happening. I can’t explain it. I just know you can’t leave just yet.’ Oliver hesitated and said, ‘It’s okay. You don’t have to. You can trust me.’ He moved his hand up to brush his face. Kyle smiled and put his hands on either side of Oliver’s face. As he did, something seemed to light up in him again. Oliver seemed to be watching him, watching the happiness come back. Then Oliver slowly moved up closer and guided his lips straight to Kyle’s, but he immediately pulled back as if checking with Kyle first. Kyle was surprised as much by Oliver kissing him as he was by the feeling that now surged back into his chest. Kyle was as nearly surprised by his own reaction to Oliver. He wanted more. Kyle reached out to grab onto him as they came back together again and the kiss deepened. Oliver gently moved himself on his knees to fit right in between Kyle’s legs and held him closer. Kyle melted into him and wrapped his legs tighter around him just as Oliver slid his arm under Kyle’s hips and shifted him further onto the bed as Kyle grasped him tightly around the neck. Oliver laid himself down next to Kyle and they pulled closer and closer together as Oliver’s hands again wandered up under his shirt. Kyle kicked off the bed to roll on top of Oliver, but the sudden rush caused his head to spin. ‘Kyle!’ Oliver grabbed him as soon as Kyle started to sway. He looked like he was about to pass out. Oliver quickly rose up and lifted Kyle into a sitting position against the wall on the bed. ‘Kyle. Just breathe. Take deep breaths.’ Kyle felt a strange buzzing in his head. He had seen the blackness come over his eyes, but the light had come back and his breath with it. Oliver thrust the glass of water at him. ‘Here take a drink.’ Kyle took a small sip and passed it back to Oliver. He felt Oliver shift in the bed to move next to him and put Kyle in that pocket of his arms. It was easy, so easy to just rest there, Kyle thought. He closed his eyes and kept breathing deeply. Oliver sighed. He couldn’t decide if he’d made a brilliant move or a giant fool of himself. Only the morning would tell, he thought. They sat like this for long enough that Oliver thought Kyle had fallen asleep. He started to move his arm out from behind Kyle, but he was wrong. Kyle grabbed out for him again. Oliver sat transfixed as Kyle leaned over to give him the same gentle kiss that he had given Kyle that day in the park. When he told him, he loved him. This time Oliver was surprised as Kyle kept moving in so softly and gently, tenderly peppering his lips first and then slowly, as he felt Oliver respond, he opened his mouth more and more as he silently asked Oliver to open up to him. Oliver breathed, ‘Wait.’ He gently placed his hand at Kyle’s jaw and separated them ever so slightly. ‘Wait. I just need to say this to you, Kyle. I hope you hear me and remember tomorrow.’ Oliver sought out Kyle’s eyes. ‘I want you more than anything else in this world, and I’m pretty sure you want me too. I am going to fight for you no matter what. Do you hear me?’ He took a deep breath. It took all his courage to get this out. ‘Even if you wake up, don’t remember any of this…and go back to Nick.’ For awhile they sat and looked at each other. Eventually, Kyle reached out to Oliver and started to say something when there was a loud knock at the door. ‘Kyle, are you in there? It’s Nick.’ |

Hi guys! You all been so supportive of my newfound desire to write that I thought I would share a bit of my crazy experience so far. I really am trying to learn how I do this as I go along. Sometimes I have tried to plan out things I want to have happen, but when I sit down, it doesn't work. I have experienced it with previous chapters, a lot, things just won't come together. And it really surprised me. I thought that's how you would do it. Maybe some people do. Well, this chapter is totally the opposite. I really had no idea what would happen when Nick came in the room. Now I do and you guys get to see the crazy results of my brain. Thanks for reading. I've had fun so I hope you are too. Chapter 7 Kyle sighed and hung his head. He didn’t look like he could face Nick tonight, but Oliver reached out to his hand, lifted up his head and said quietly, ‘I’m right here with you. You don’t have to do anything tonight, but know I’m here for you.. if you want me to be.’ Nick started to test the knob. Kyle shouted, ‘I’m here. Give me a second.’ He took Oliver’s hand and held it for a moment then dropped it. ‘I can see you tomorrow,’ he said. ‘Give me a moment with him, okay?’ He looked pleadingly at Oliver to not make a scene, but Oliver already knew what Kyle needed and it wasn’t to draw the night out any longer. He got up off the bed and stood next to it, straightening himself up as Kyle went to the door. Kyle turned the knob and tried to stand in the doorway, but Nick immediately said, ‘Thank God. I have been calling you all night,’ and started into the room. He saw Oliver immediately. ‘Oliver.’ He turned to Kyle but his eyes began to smolder as he continued to stare at Oliver. ‘What’s going on?’ Oliver stepped forward, ‘Nothing. It’s late and Kyle had a few too many at Rodi’s tonight. I was called in to take him home.’ That sent the stare to Kyle to check him over. ‘What happened? Are you okay?’ He reached out to put his hand on Kyle’s back, but Kyle stepped back to shield himself from the once over. ‘I’m fine. Not like I haven’t done it many times before. Have one too many I mean. I’m fine. Let’s not make a big deal out of it.’ Kyle looked purposefully to Oliver and Oliver took the hint. ‘Well, job’s done. I’ll be going now,’ as he stepped toward the door. His feet felt like cement. He attempted to look at Kyle. He needed him to look at him. Kyle did briefly but it was enough. ‘Take care, Kyle. See you around, Nick.’ As the door slowly closed behind him, Oliver felt like he’d left his heart behind. He had no assurances that things would be any different between Kyle and himself. But he did feel something new as he stared at the closed door. He felt hope. And he was determined that it would not leave his side from now on. No matter what Kyle decided with Nick tonight. Kyle decided he needed to sleep. Now was the perfect time to just lay down his head and forget about the world and his troubles. It seemed he couldn’t do that just yet, but his body sure was trying. He reached up and rubbed his eyes. Nick was talking. ‘It was so exciting. I can’t tell you. They had this hook up to Harrisburg to discuss electoral issues on all kinds of fronts. Amazing. Especially to hear how central an issue all this has become in the Landview campaign. I mean, they focused on Landview and gay rights for a good portion of the meeting.’ He had sat down on the bed discussing the meeting as he watched Kyle get under the covers and lay his head down on the pillows. ‘I’m sorry. Are you alright?’ Kyle slightly nodded as he went on. ‘I was just so excited to tell you all this. I thought you would want to know everything that has been happening. I mean it is so amazing. I can’t believe it is finally, finally happening.’ He paused and when Kyle didn’t really respond, he said. ‘So…you were drunk enough that Rodi’s called the police? Or..did Oliver just happen to run into you there?’ Kyle turned his head and looked up slightly. He didn’t really want to talk to Nick at all right now. He almost couldn’t believe that this was happening. Oliver had left. The thought seemed to hit him hard. He left but it wasn’t willingly. He knew that. Oliver would have stuck with him through thick and thin now, he thought. Or would he? He decided he could not handle one more thing tonight. If I have to get along without both of them, I can do it. I can. He started to sit up slowly, his head pounding. ‘You know I can’t really rehash it all with you tonight. Let’s just say that I got hammered, the police came, Oliver helped me back, and that’s it,’ he said a bit roughly. ‘It’s been a really long night and as much as I know you want to talk to me, or you were worried about me, I just can’t do it now. You’ll have to wait to hear all the details if that’s what you’re interested in.’ He slowly moved himself off the bed and over to Nick. He said more gently, ‘Hey, I know that this isn’t how you would have liked to see this evening go. Me neither but it’s done and I can’t do anymore tonight. Would you mind just letting….giving me some space to sleep this off, Nick?’ He faltered and said, ‘I’m sorry.’ Nick was a little pissed off. ‘You expect me to just leave here after I have been scared half the night for you. Wondering where the hell you are and then, of all things, I find you with Oliver! My God! I’m supposed to just turn around and walk away when something obviously is going on!’ He grabbed Kyle by the shoulders, ‘What’s the truth, Kyle? Why now, all of a sudden are you turning me away in the middle of the night? It hasn’t worked out like that before, but yet Oliver hasn’t been here in the middle of the night either. What is it? Tell me.’ Kyle was forced to look at him. ‘I don’t know what it is yet. I don’t know what to tell you. You’ll just have to wait till tomorrow and if you can’t do that …then forget it. I cannot have this conversation tonight. Period.’ Nick glared at him, but said, ‘Fine, fine, if that’s how you want to play it.’ He took a deep breath seemingly to calm himself down. ‘I am willing to wait. I mean, like you said, you’ve had a long night and you obviously want to sleep. Although earlier you…’ He stopped and shook himself. ‘Fine.’ He grabbed his coat. ‘I’ll be waiting to hear from you tomorrow.’ Kyle nodded but didn’t move towards him. Nick turned and looked at him once more as he went out the door. Kyle sunk down onto his bed and crawled toward his pillow. What a night, he thought. This will take a while to recover from and promptly fell asleep. Edited by sporter, Oct 8 2009, 07:50 AM.
