The other thing is that I feel many people are bisexual or on a continium when it comes to sex and relationships because what really feeds attraction. What really makes a person stand up (escuse the pun) for one person and go flat for another. Kyle seems like Fish's soulmate, but does that mean he isn't somewhat attracted to Layla. |

I don't mean to be funny but other than the ABC board, I don't think there are many fans that want to see Layla and Fish. Even on that board, I think I counted 10 or 15 so called Lish fans. I've been attached to this story since its inception and until today when I encountered the Lish fan on SOC, I had never even heard of their fans. I don't think anyone else around here has heard of it either. Not to criticize the ABC board posters, but I don't think they would alter a story because of them because if they did, then I'm sure Evangeline would still be on our show. What's really funny is that as far as I've heard, the name LISH is used to describe Alicia Minshew and her fanbase. Phyllis and Nick were a phenomen all of their own accord that reached across multiple soap boards. If you went to a GL board, you would see people talking about Phyllis and Nick. If you went to a GH board, you saw the same. The only other new couple ABC has had in recent years that can even compete with that has been Kish or maybe Rex and Gigi. When I went out to check on various message boards today, I didn't see anyone even talking about Layla and Fish other than that one board....at all.
But Fish's attraction to Layla doesn't determine his sexuality which is why I think some people are confused. There is a myth that if Fish is sexually attracted to women that he can't be gay and must be bisexual. That's not the case. Gay men are often sexually attracted to women. They even start families with these women. But what they do is repress their true feelings until they are ready to come out of the closet. That is what we saw with Fish when he kissed Kyle. His instinct was to respond to that moment and give in to what he felt for Kyle until Cristian saw them. As soon as Fish realized he was caught, immediately he went right back into denial. :dunno: I honestly don't know what to tell anyone who supports Lish. Honestly. I'm baffled anyone would think that by wishing they would alter Fish's sexuality and the story in hopes that there will be a chance for Layla and Fish is on another planet. Number one, there is zero fan support for that. Number two, the story has already been laid out by Ron. Number three, most importantly the fan response to Kish is overwhelmingly positive with the audience and the critics. They would never squander Kish just to satisfy a few posters on athe ABC board. That's just not going to happen. Edited by Tashlover, Aug 16 2009, 08:43 PM.

I hear you, but I actually have gone on many boards/post etc.. and I have been suprised to see some support for Layla and Fish for various reasons. I think my fear is that the writers may not go all the way for this storyline because of people decrying the homosexual content (which I have read negative backlash about this as well). Will they show KISH like a regular soap couple with sexual relations or sugarcoat it by throwing in Stacy or Layla or another female to soften the storyline. Some people are disgusted by Kish, which I don't understand because there clearly is genuine love there and how can you go against love in form. So don't get me wrong I understand the issues, I was just feeding from what I have read elsewhere (youtube, soapnet and a host of others). You are right that most people are in favor of KISH, but who knows. Now some say that Fish might get Stacy pregnant again and while I am intrigued by a Fish baby possible raised by Kish, I wonder if there is a subtext by having Oliver sleep with her again. If that does happen. |

Funny you mention soapnet because I was just on that board and there is a HUGE thread where people are disgusted by Layla sleeping with Fish. In fact, I have YET to ever see a positive Layla thread advocating her with anyone over there. They don't like her on that board. They never have. I've been to TWOP, SON, Mediadomain, SOC, SNS, Soapzone, Daytime Confidential and SOS. I went back all the way to mid July on those boards and I don't see this contingent of support for Layla and Fish. I don't mean to be dismissive but I just don't see it. I also did not see this backlash against Kish. And nothing, nada, zero discussion about a possible Layla and Fish pairing. The only place I see any backlash against Kish or support for Layla and Fish is the ABC board. Hell I even went to youtube to check out Kish clips, Cayla clips, Layla only clips and the OLTLviewers channel. Shrugs.....sorry.
I have no fear about this story. Just look at their first kiss. If they were going to hesitate anywhere, then that would have been your first sign. Right there. Kish had a kiss within 1 month and from the reaction that kiss alone from fans, critics etc. I can't see why tptb wouldn't continue. As a matter of fact as far as I can see, they are going full throttle with this story by introducing Fish's conservative parents. You mention youtube and the Kish kiss generated 30,00 views in the first week. No other couple can say the same.
See there is no who knows as far as I can see. Ron specifically said in his interview "people are falling for Kyle and they love Oliver, and I am more than pleased with the response to KISH."
Soften what storyline? They aren't trying to soften the storyline by adding Fish's sexual relationships with women. They are showing him going through the process of coming out. He feels awful after he sleeps with Stacy. Everything that Kyle said about how Fish is going to hurt Layla is true. How are they softening the story? I hate to say this but it almost seems like you don't even really like Kish. I could be wrong but it just seems like you are working really hard to convince me that Layla and Fish might have some kind of future impact on Kish's future and other than what we already know which is that eventually Layla will support Fish, I don't see how that is possible. I guess I don't understand why you would feel that they would only be able to write for Kish by using Layla when Ron has already told you that they are writing a gay love story complete with a romance and not a bisexual one. Additionally, I think it needs to be noted that after visiting the other boards that I mentioned today and others, I still see people discussing Kish's first kiss and how excited they are about Kish. Why would you think that tptb wouldn't be pleased with the response to Kish when Ron, Susan, Farah Fath, Ilene Kristen, Brett Claywell and Scott Evans are all on record talking about the positive response to Kish? First of all if I didn't like Kish I wouldn't be on this board. Also, I'm sorry you haven't seen it, but I did not make up what I saw and I did not make up the name LISH (I got it from another site, which I don't rememeber now.) Let us not forget that we are on the same page. We all support Kyle and Oliver here and want to see them together. What I sometimes don't trust is soap opera land. I have been watching soaps for a long time and I have left soaps because of strange (against what fans want) storylines. On a side note, look at what has happened to Jack and Ianto. I would have never thought it possible! I must state again, I started this thread to discuss what I was reading elsewhere and it got me thinking, what would you guys think about this. At any rate, I love KISH and will continue to support them and I like Layla maybe with someone other than Chris. If I disliked any of the characters or even the story I would not be on this thread. |

You don't have to tell me why I'm here. I've been here supporting this story from the beginning both here and on SOC. I don't have a problem discussing any topic but I am certainly not going to apologize for not being able to verify your claims. I thought your thread originally made sense and yielded a good discussion as I have seen people who are confused by Fish's sexuality on other boards. That is verifiable. I just haven't seen this huge outswell of fans who want Layla and Fish and you'll have to excuse me as I don't intend to be mean but I'm not going to pretend either. If anything, I've seen the opposite now that they slept together under these circumstances. Edited by Tashlover, Aug 17 2009, 07:59 AM.

Totally loved the article from Mala. I think she did a great eval on the presentation. |

I had sex with a few girls in my teen years, and I didn't dislike it. However, it wasn't something that I actively pursued, nor do I consider myself at all bisexual. The common conception is that gay man cannot possibly enjoy icky girl sex, which isn't universally true :) |
