Oh thank GAWD Kyle didn't say anything like that or else I would have turned instantly! Whats so great about Kyle is that he doesn't walk around with a freakin cowbell on shouting "Gay here! I'm a gay here!" why would he go around saying that? How would it have come up? If asked by someone(like Roxy), he won't deny it. As much as I love Luke and Noah, it seems ATWT writers write Luke as all about being gay. Kyle on the other hand is multidemensional, he's a bad boy, he has a heart, he's about becoming a doctor, he's not above doing something illegal in order to help further himself. There is so much the OLTL writers can do with the Kyle and Fish pairing, The bad boy and the goody goofy cop. It's your classic soap pairing. [/quote] Edited by ksb78, Aug 10 2009, 08:45 PM.

I do like that Kyle's gayness is being presented as just another aspect of how he is, but I disagree that Luke is always about being gay. A lot of his story is that to be sure, but not everything is about him being gay. I do think that Luke is a multi-dimensional character, but it's probably more due to Van Hansis's acting chops than the scripts. I think part of the difference is the complexity of the level of writing and the writing style differences between the two shows. Also, Luke's story was a complete coming out story and a story of his coming of age as a gay youth. That's not what Kyle's story is about. And to be honest, I rather appreciate the random, cowbell wearing gay shouting "I'm here, I'm queer, get the f**# out of my way". Sometimes that's still needed. |

Per your original post, jsg03jd It's exceedingly well thougt out. All of us are exhausted with coming out, but it's not a 1 time thing--it's a life-long, on-going, small detail to be revealed. In my part of America it's:
And that's the end of it--pretty comfortable. But in other parts of Amerikkka, I know it's more like, "I'm not married." (end of Q&A) Or at least until you decide how personal you want to get with the questioner. That's the difference in styles, OLTL to ATWT. Luke IS eternally a gay activist--kinduv exhausting and 1 dimentional, I agree. There are times to Act Up! But most times it's time to act civil, tho not closeted. "Who's Luke?" "Oh, he's the gay character on ATWT." "Who's Kyle?" much longer more complex answer, you're right. At first I resented the idea of another tale of coming out, but I got over it. Oliver's nearly 30, filled with the bad messages of his ["14th Century"] parents; he's in a job not renouwn as gay-friendly... Yeah, there must be a lot of guys like him. Heck, I've know guys who've raised families and came out in their 50s. Talk about DRAMA! But that's what soaps are about, I guess, eh? |

I called in to Dan Kroll's Soap show on Blogtalk radio last night like I do every Monday and basically said this about Kish Im loving it because the actors make me truly believe that they are in love with each other as Kyle and Oliver Then Dan asked me what makes this so different than ATWT, AMVC or YR and I said that is because OLTL is writing like any other couple on the show. they have the same exact issues as anyone in Llanview regardless of sexuality, and in the end when I say i want equality thats what I mean. I want Kish to be given the same story opportunities that the straight couples get in Llanview. Dan even agreed with what I said. Edited by appleridge, Aug 11 2009, 08:08 AM.

never evah doubted Van's acting chops! But from my perspective, it seems the writers of ATWT have done with Luke what I mentioned earlier. And while there is nothing wrong with cowbell wearing, it would not fit Kyle's character.( although it would look hot!) |

I was raised luckily by two very liberal parents, in the south that is very very hard to find. so to me when someone says they are gay it's no big deal. I've had good expirences with both types of gay persona, the subtle quitely known and the flamboyant hey I'm gay. Both types to me bring a little something to the table. I think that OLTL and Brett are doing an amazing job showing that it's ok just to be gay, you don't have to be an activist to be gay. (although I belive everyone should be active and present in the issues that are close & personal to them). IMO  Edited by loveinabeerbottle, Aug 12 2009, 07:35 AM.
