Title: Everybody Wants Fish, Part 2 SubTitle: Dinner Dates Author: StevenW Creation Date: 4.14.09 Rating: PG-13 Genre: M/M romance Warnings: none Disclaimer: This author is in no way associated with "One Life To Live", ABC, or any actor. These fan fiction stories are not for profit. No copyright infringement is intended. Story Summary: Cristian Vega’s fascination with Oliver Fish continues, as does Kyle’s. And Stacy pops up again. Author’s Note: Nothing new to explain. ====== Capricorn, Wednesday April 15, 2009 Oliver Fish enters Llanview’s most elegant nightclub and dining establishment. There are butterflies in his stomach, his head is spinning, and his heart is doing flip-flops. Seeing Kyle Lewis again, after four years, has stirred up lots of unresolved and suppressed feelings. He spots Kyle standing at a corner table, waving. “I was getting worried.” Kyle greets him fretfully. “I thought you might have changed your mind.” Fish smiles. “I almost did. Several times.” He sits, reaches for his water with a shaky hand and knocks it over. Cristian Vega is there with a fresh heavy linen napkin to clean up the mess. Ollie is surprised. “Cristian! You work here too?” Cristian grins mischievously. “This is actually my real job. I manage Capricorn. I just work at the diner when my mom needs help.” “Oh.” The nervous Nellie responds. Kyle is intrigued and jealous. “You know each other?” Ollie shakes his head no but Cristian responds verbally and to the contraire. “Why yes we do. Ollie and I are the best of friends. That’s why I gave you my best table. Nothing but the best for my buddy and his ah, friend.” Both Kyle and Oliver stare at Cristian as if he were a space alien. Cristian laughs. “Jeez guys. Loosen up. It was a joke. I’ll just go get another water.” As soon as he is gone Kyle asks again, “Do you know that guy?” Oliver shakes his head again. “Not really. But, he seems nice and we are going out for beers Saturday night.” Kyle’s face falls, “Oh.” Fish grows angry and the butterflies and nerves fade. “Now you can’t do that. I haven’t seen or heard from you in over four years. You ended it, as I recall. Said you had to concentrate on Med school. So don’t be getting all possessive and crazy like.” Kyle started to reply but Cristian, ever the master of good timing, reappears with a fresh goblet of water. “Are we ready to order?” A different kind of stare tells him they were not. “Okay then. More time.” And off he goes to attend to something else. “Ollie.” Kyle admits tenderly. “I’m guilty. Exactly like you said. My only excuse is I was young. We were young. I didn’t know what I wanted. And I certainly didn’t appreciate what we had.” He pauses briefly to stare into his companion’s eyes. “In hindsight, I think it was pretty great.” Ollie forces a weak smile. His anger begins to fade. “It was great Kyle. And we were young. But I find it hard to believe that you suddenly know I am what you want. I don’t even know that.” “A fair point,” the mid-twenties intern concedes. “But come on, you can’t tell me seeing me again didn’t stir some fire in you, somewhere.” The timid klutz reaches for his water again and this time has success. He takes a long slow drink and then manages to reseat the glass without incident. “No, I can’t tell you that.” Kyle smiles broadly. “Good. Then what do you want to eat. Because your friend is just itching to come back over.” He nods in Cristian’s direction. Oliver takes a gander. “He’s not my friend.” And then he decides to do something he hasn’t done in years. “But he is kind of cute. I could do worse.” The black-haired dining companion and ex-something takes the bait. “Hey! I’m cuter than he is.” Ollie meets the teasing gaze and just shrugs. Cristian returns. (Hey, he knew it was time.) “Okay. What’s looking good tonight?” Kyle burst into laughter. Cristian looks confused. Fish stifles his own laughter. “Oh I get it.” Cristian says. “I’m a little slow sometimes. But thank you, I appreciate the compliment.” He kneels down and speaks quieter. “But I warn you. I’m on the market. Don’t flirt too much or I may just have to accept.” “You like guys?” Kyle asks, being the bolder of the two diners. “Never have.” Cristian replies honestly. “But I’ve done some reassessing of my own lately. I might be willing to give it a try.” He looks at Fish. “If the right guy came along.” Both Fish’s and Lewis’ eyes widened at that, but for different reasons. Cristian’s instincts tell him its time to return to business. “But enough about me, what looks good on the menu?” “I feel like a nice juicy strip steak.” Ollie replies. “And a loaded baker, extra butter.” “An excellent choice.” Cristian says through suppressed laughter. “And how do you like your meat?” Then the laughter breaks free in an odd sounding snort. Ollie laughs. “Medium.” “Very well,” Cristian responds, back in business mode. “You know that comes with steamed asparagus and Hollandaise sauce. Is that okay? Or do you want something with more of a kick. Say deep fried Jalapeno pepper poppers. Guaranteed to stoke any fire burning in your belly.” “Just the asparagus.” Fish confirms, amused now by the teasing. Cristian turns to Kyle who is none too amused. “And how about you, Mr. Lucky?” Kyle smirks. “I’ll have exactly the same as Ollie. We like the same things exactly. To the T.” “We do?” Ollie speaks aloud. This is news to him. “Got it,” Cristian continues. “Two peas in a pod. No other peas allowed. Is that what you are ordering?” Kyle grows a little angry. “You know we could go elsewhere.” “Yes I do, but don’t. I’m just trying to get a rise out of you. Sorry, but running into this situation has been the highlight of my life for the last month or so.” He squats again. “I’ll tell you what you don’t want to hear. First Sarah left me because I married Vanessa. Then Vanessa turned out to be a lying fake and she got deported to Columbia. And then Layla, the sister of my former ex-girlfriend who is in a vegetative coma, has decided to get all up in my shit over and over again. And my only brother left town to go track down his wife’s father, who just happens to be an international gangster. And my mother can’t keep enough reliable help at her place. So yeah, teasing around with you and Fish makes me happy and I like being happy. So don’t take me seriously.” He grins and stands again. “Just please take me. I’m lonely and I want to be taken.” He mouths his pen and pretends it is a cigar. His homage to Groucho Marx. Ollie and Kyle just exchange glances. Cristian might be cute but he seems unbalanced at the moment. Still, they silently and jointly decide to indulge him. “Okay stud, go fetch our meat.” Kyle orders, playfully. He is no longer angry. The teasing tormenting serving lothario notes their acceptance and is made happy. “I knew I picked the right guys to like. You get a free desert. On me. Just because you’re both so darn cute.” Fish continues the teasing. “Great, but do you have a back room. We can’t have our desert out here.” “Why not?” The desert-giver asks, confused. “It is a restaurant after all.” Lewis and Fish exchange a brief stare and know what to do. They say in unison, “Well you said it was on you. We can’t very well eat off you in the main dining room. Wouldn’t you be embarrassed?” Cristian roars with laughter, having gotten the joke. “Naughty naughty.” Ollie widens his doe eyes. “You promised.” “Yeah well, let’s get through the main course and then we’ll talk.” He smiles broadly, “Pervs!” Then he winks and walks off. “I like him. More and more.” Ollie admits. “I do too.” Kyle admits. “Maybe we could have a threesome?” “Maybe.” Fish ponders briefly and then shakes the image from his thoughts. “But you and I have to reach some sort of understanding first.” “We have an understanding.” Lewis counters instantly. “We’re interested in each other romantically again and want to take it as far as we can.” “With the ultimate goal being, what?” Ollie presses. “Marriage, house, picket fence, snot-noses, seven white cats, allergies, too many bills, old age, and rocking chairs.” Ollie shakes his head. “I know you are making a joke but is that really your long-term goal?” “Yeah. It’s the American dream. I want that. And I think I want it with you.” “I like that you want the dream. And I even like that you want me in it. But we are far from that point at the moment.” “I know Oliver Fish. I’m not stupid. But I’m nearing my career goal. I’ve reached the point where I’m thinking about who to share the life I’ve been building with. You’re my top candidate. I’d like to be yours?” “I don’t know Kyle Lewis. Those words from long ago still ring in my ears. You blamed me for the intimacy we shared. You said it happened because I pushed. I can’t just get over that instantly because you want me to. You made me feel defective. When the truth is we were both equally guilty for what happened. You do get that now, don’t you?” “Yes Ollie. I get it,” The embarrassed and remorseful intern admits. “I’ve gotten it for years. I may have left you physically all those years ago but I made no effort, none at all, to leave you emotionally. I’ve dated no one. Had no one-night stands. I blamed it on work, but I was wrong. It was you. And I don’t mean to be crude but my only love life has been my right hand and various bottles of lotion. Seeing you again made me realize why I lived that way. You should of seen the punching I gave the heavy bag at the gym the other day, after our brief encounter. I worked up quite a sweat.” Ollie grins. “You always were a heavy sweater. Even with the lightest of movement. You should check into that Doc?” “I will if you want, but I seem to remember you like me all hot and sweaty.” “I did then. We’re older now. I think I’d like you in a bath of milk and honey.” “Oooh! That’s gross.” Kyle scrunched his face. “Are you serious?” “No.” Oliver laughs. “Besides I know you’re lactose intolerant.” Kyle laughs a bit and then grows serious again, “Well, for you, I’d do it. It is supposed to do wonders for your skin, after all.” “Like we care…” “Kyle!” Stacy Morasco yells from across the room, interrupting whatever moment was gelling. “Oh God!” He utters, half hiding his face with his hands. “Here comes trouble.” Fish immediately recognizes Stacey. “Oh God!” He repeats and then turns to his companion. “You know her?” “Yeah. You know her?” Kyle repeats. “Awkward!” Stacey utters when she arrives and recognizes Fish. Still, she is on a mission and refuses to be deterred. “Fish.” She says curtly. “You guys know each other?” Cristian arrives. It’s that timing thing again. That, plus the dining duo has had most of his attention all evening. “Everybody knows everybody, except I don’t know you.” Kyle and Oliver are grateful for this interruption. Stacey gives the barely-over thirty Mr. Vega the once over and decides she likes what she sees. (Hey, a girl can always window shop.) The bleached blonde conniver takes the time to introduce herself. “I’m Stacey Morasco.” She offers her hand. “And you are?” “Cristian Vega. But you can call me lonely and available.” He offers his most disarming smile and his twinkling eyes, even though he is not sure why other than the young woman’s beauty. Stacey laughs coquettishly. “That line might work on some other night, but not tonight. I’ve got business with Mr. Lewis here.” She turns and tugs at Kyle’s arm. “Kyle.” Kyle objects and resists. “Stacey, I’m in the middle of something here.” She looks at Fish. “Yeah well, Fish can wait. Can’t you Fish?” She offers the former one-night-stand a smirk. “I… I’m… If…” Fish stutters. Women always do that to him. “I just need him a second.” The blonde vixen is undeterred. “Besides how do you two know each other?” Kyle speaks up. “That is none of your business. But let’s get this over with.” He stands. “Ollie, I’ll be right back.” Ollie widens his eyes and shrugs, again unable to form words. Kyle and Stacey move to the bar. Cristian takes Kyle’s seat and waits for Oliver Fish to find his eyes. When he does, the oddly-enamored restaurateur speaks, “You just get more and more interesting. I can’t picture you with that woman.” Fish is offended. “Are you saying I act too gay?” “No!” Cristian is quick to answer. “It’s not that at all. It’s the passive aggressive thing. You, no offense, act very passive. And yet every now and then I see a flash of aggression. And I can’t picture you as a cop or with that woman.” He glances toward Stacy briefly. “She seems super aggressive.” Oliver is a bit insulted and angry. Insulted by Cristian’s correct characterization of him. And angry that Kyle has some sort of relationship with Stacy that is more important than his, at least for the moment. Cristian correctly reads part of the young man’s thoughts. “I’ve offended you. I’m sorry.” Oliver Fish sighs. “No you haven’t. I’m annoyed that your assessment of me is right on. With women I’m all thumbs and very passive.” “And with men?” Cristian questions. “There has never been any men, other than that one.” He looks at Kyle. Cristian again correctly reads the longing and sorrow in Oliver’s gaze. “So you really like that one?” “I did.” Ollie confesses as he reaches for his water and nearly knocks it over again. He would have too, had Cristian not reached out and steadied his hand, which causes them both to lock eyes and exchange warm smiles. “I realize it’s none of my business and you don’t really know me, but are you gay? I mean, do you identify that way?” Oliver laughs silently for a few seconds. “I guess I don’t know. Kyle and I were in an exclusive and affectionate relationship for our entire senior year. If you asked me that then, I would have said yes. But I don’t know now.” He brightens. “And I really don’t know why I’m talking to you about this.” He allows the cop in him to come out. “Do you maybe have a secret, or are you straight curious? You seem unusually interested in me.” Now Cristian laughs, loudly. He doesn’t much care if people notice him or not. “I guess I am sort of flirting with you, aren’t I?” “You tell me?” “Maybe you are passive aggressive.” Cristian jokes. “Sometimes you speak forcefully.” “And maybe you’re avoiding the question?” Fish presses. Cristian shrugs. “Maybe it’s a question neither of us want to answer. Yet!” “Maybe. But let me ask you this, why did you make a point of introducing yourself to Stacy and with a pick-up line, no less?” Cristian smiles again, broadly. “I see the cop in you.” “Hey, you’re full of questions too.” Cristian stands, having noticed that Stacy and Kyle have finished their conversation. “Life is one big question, don’t you think? I’ll go check on your meat, I mean meal.” Oliver Fish laughs as Cristian departs. “What?” Kyle says, retaking his seat. “What did I miss?” “Nothing.” Ollie lies a bit. “Cristian and I were just talking about life. But what about you and Stacy? How do you know her?” “Why?” Kyle teases hopefully. “Are you jealous?” “Not really.” The young romantic admits somewhat dishonestly. “Besides you should be jealous of me.” “You mean with Stacy.” Kyle Lewis rolls his eyes. “She told me. I’m having a hard time picturing that.” “You shouldn’t. I’ve dated a lot of women since college.” He held his date’s eyes to make a point. “And I’ve performed with a lot of them. And Stacy and I, well we had quite a performance.” “Yeah, she hinted at that. Asked me lots of questions about you.” Ollie perked up. “Me?” “Down boy.” Kyle admonished. “Us really. She wanted to know our story.” “Let me guess.” Ollie strokes his chin. “You didn’t tell her anything near the truth.” “No, I didn’t. But it’s not because I’m ashamed of us. If there is an us. It’s because I don’t trust her.” Fish decides to let the ‘us’ comment pass and focus instead on the ‘trust’ comment. “What is your relationship with her? Why don’t you trust her?” “I wish I could tell you Ollie. Really I do. But you’re a policeman and I can’t.” “You’re going to do something illegal for her?” “I’m not doing it for her. There is another life involved. And I don’t think it is illegal, just unethical.” Oliver reaches for Kyle’s hand and grasps it firmly. “Don’t do it Kyle. Whatever it is. Don’t do it. There has to be another way. Find it. Don’t put your career in jeopardy for her. She isn’t worth it. Believe me I know. I don’t know what she is promising you, but she is in love with another guy.” “I know that too. Rex Balsom. I already know more about her than I want to. But, as I said, there is another life involved.” He adds his second hand to their on-table clasp. “But I really appreciate the concern. Seriously.” “I’m here with the meat, boys.” Cristian announces. “Who’s hungry?” The two diners withdrawal their hands but not their eyes. “Okay, I’m going out on a limb here and say both.” He deposits the plates and, getting no verbal response from either diner, simply says “enjoy” before he departs. Despite tons of uncertainty, Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis, already are – enjoying, that is. |

That is SO soap. I giggled all the way thru it. Exactly the nonsense soap characters spout at each other, or how they too often sound to me. You got it perfect. Another thing, I like your Christian one helluva lot more than I do the nasty one on the show. I've yet to see anything light or comfortable about him. Your Christian is engaging... as is your Oliver. IF ONLY he were that easily coaxed out of his internal homophobia. Your Kish would be way down the road to a happy out life together, compared to what's airing. [You know Nukester insists on happy endings--quickly! Instantly gratify the Nukester before his attention drifts!] altho.... and we've talked about this innumerable times..., gay guys not having sex at that age for that many years (not even a 1 night stand)..., :dunno: Chapter 3, Excelsior!
