I love it long and wavy!

Special Note: I wrote this story before OLTL announced there would be a KISH. I'm very okay with how OLTL is doing the story, but this is how I would do it. I also create a new topic for each new chapter, but the chapter number will be in every title line. And just this once, I'm posting four (4) chapters at once. Title: Everybody Wants Fish, Part 1 SubTitle: The Busy Booth Bench Author: StevenW Creation Date: 4.06.09 Rating: PG-13 Genre: M/M romance Warnings: none Disclaimer: This author is in no way associated with "One Life To Live", ABC, or any actor. These fan fiction stories are not for profit. No copyright infringement is intended. Story Summary: Cristian Vega becomes fascinated with Oliver Fish and discovers he isn’t the only one. Kyle Lewis is featured prominently as well. Stacy, Layla, Schuyler, John, and Rex also make appearances. Author’s Note: I wrote the first three chapters of this story back in April, completely before OLTL announced that there would be a Oliver Fish / Kyle Lewis romance. Thus, this story is a little dated, but, it is one of my favorite stories and I plan to continue it and bring it in line with the show shortly. However, for purposes of the first few chapters, Oliver, Layla, and Cris do not yet live together. Also, Kyle has tried to blackmail Natalie and Jared, and, as yet, he has not helped Stacy with the blood switch. Finally, I wanted to have fun with Cristian as he has always been one of my favorite characters and the guy just can’t catch a break. ====== Buenos Dias Diner, Monday April 6, 2009. Oliver Fish enters the diner intent on getting a late breakfast. He has just completed a night shift at the Llanview Police Department. Oliver finds Cristian and Layla in a shouting match near the doorway. He steps around them and makes his way to an empty booth. “Well, let me ask you, Layla.” Cristian shouts, nostrils flaring. “If I’m so detestable, why do you keep coming in here? You know I’m likely to be here.” “Hello!” The angry young woman responds. “It’s a restaurant. I like to eat.” Cristian widens his eyes to underscore his own anger. “Well hello back! It’s not the only restaurant in town. You could go elsewhere.” Layla pokes him in the chest. “I would think your mother appreciates my business.” “Your business is fine. Your mouth on the other hand is…” “God! You’re insufferable.” She waves both arms at Cristian in a dismissive gesture. “I’m out of here.” “Good. And don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.” Cristian yells after her and then spins on the balls of his feet, causing his wiping rag to fan out. He notices Oliver Fish sitting alone so he moves to the opposite bench and sits. “God that woman is a colossal pain in the butt. If I were you I’d count myself lucky that she dumped me.” “You two definitely don’t like each other.” Fish offers his doe-eyed timid grin. “Or is it maybe the opposite of that?” Cristian’s face contorts in horror. “Don’t even go there. No way in hell could I feel anything but contempt for that woman. I’d rather date you.” The young officer blushes and cannot formulate a response. “Ah... Um…” Cristian finds Oliver’s nonresponse amusing. He takes a deep breath and tries to calm himself. “How old are you?” The officer can respond to that and does so quickly. “Twenty-five.” “Well Fish, don’t take this the wrong way, but for a twenty-five year old man you seem awfully shy and timid. What’s up with that? Is that the real Fish or is there a wild man in there somewhere?” Oliver shakes his head no, rapidly. “No. No wild man here. This is… is pretty much me.” “See, I don’t get that. How can a nice quiet guy like you be interested in that she-devil that just walked out of here? It just doesn’t seem like a fit. Surely you could find a nicer woman.” Fish shrugs and again struggles to answer. “Okay!” Cristian decides and stands. “A mystery man huh. That’s cool. Nothing wrong with a good mystery. So you want your regular breakfast.” “You know my regular order?” Fish utters, stunned. Cristian pats the younger man’s closest shoulder. “Ah Fish. A good restaurateur notices everything.” “But I’ve only been coming here for a couple of weeks.” “Hey, it only takes me a few times before I get it.” Oliver offers his patented grin again. “Okay then. But I feel like I should change.” “No no!” Cristian says. “Don’t change what isn’t broken. I’ll be right back with the coffee.” “Okay! Thanks!” Just as Cristian leaves Schuyler and Stacey walk in and sit at the bar. They order coffees to go from another server. Stacey notices Oliver and tries to avoid his hopeful stare. Schuyler notices the noticing. “You know that guy?” Schuyler asks. “Ooooh yeah!” Stacey replies with diverted eyes. “I smell a story.” Her ex-boyfriend and current sugar-daddy prods. “Come on, spill.” Stacey sucks air thru her teeth and decides to fess up. “I kind of slept with him on my first night in town.” “That guy.” Schuyler quips as he assesses Oliver Fish. “He doesn’t look like your type. I mean he is cute and all but he doesn’t look very… very…” “Macho.” Stacey supplies the missing word. “Yeah. Despite the uniform. I don’t find him at all threatening.” “Well you wouldn’t.” “Now don’t go there.” “Don’t worry. You secret is safe with me.” Cristian delivers their coffees and they pay. “You coming?” Stacey asks when her companion hangs back. “Nah. I’ve got a little time before my next appointment. I think I’ll hang here.” “Suit yourself.” The crafty young blonde says as she makes a bouncy exit. Schuyler wastes no time in approaching Oliver. “So, you know Stacey. May I sit? I’m Schuyler Joplin.” “Probably not a good idea.” Oliver says. “You’re under active investigation for the Starr Manning incident. Anything you say can and will be used against you.” “That’s fine.” Schuyler says, as he sits. “And for the record I didn’t do anything with Starr. She kissed me. However, I did use really poor judgment in allowing myself and Miss Manning to get close in the first place.” “If you say so.” Schuyler ignores the Starr stuff and moves on to Stacey. “You know I used to be Stacey’s boyfriend. But that didn’t work out. Now we’re just friends.” “Okay.” Fish replies, not at all sure why this information is being offered. The oddly bearded guest continues. “Stacey can be a handful.” Fish nods at that as he vividly remembers their night of passion. “Was she blunt with you? She can be very blunt.” “She didn’t tell you?” “No.” Cristian delivers the breakfast and tops off the coffee, taking note of Fish’s guest, and Fish’s guest’s interest in Fish. “She pretty much stomped on my heart the next day.” Schuyler nodded. “She does have a cruel streak.” “Yeah well. It’s not the first time. I haven’t done very well with the ladies.” That was the opening Schuyler was looking for. “I find that hard to believe. A good-looking guy like you. And in a uniform, no less. They say no one can resist a man in uniform.” Fish blushes yet again but manages to reply. “Well apparently they can.” At the counter Cristian has been listening. He smiles knowingly. “You know what. We should go out some time. I’m new in town and could use a friend.” Schuyler says and then stares hopefully. “I don’t think I can while you’re under investigation. Conflict of interest and all.” Fish replies dispassionately. “Well, when I’m not under investigation then. How about that?” Kyle Lewis walks in the restaurant and notices Fish. He is a man on a mission and is undeterred by Schuyler’s presence. “Ollie, can we talk?” “Kyle.” Ollie says. His voice full of surprise. Schuyler notices the tense undertone. From the counter Cristian notices the same. “It’s okay.” Schuyler says. “I was just leaving. I’ll see you soon, I hope.” “Okay.” Fish replies, ever the polite one. Kyle wastes no time in occupying the now empty bench. Cristian comes by to offer coffee, which Kyle declines. “Who was that guy?” Kyle asks. His jealousy is obvious to both Fish and the now fascinated Cristian. Fish pauses from ingesting his food. “Just some guy I barely know.” “Oh. So you’re still doing guys?” Oliver panics. “Kyle. This is a public place. Keep your voice down.” “I don’t mean like that. I just mean dating them. Poor choice of words. Sorry!” Cristian’s eyes widen again. He is surprised at this revelation and then realizes he should not have been. He continues to balance his chores with his eavesdropping. “I’ve never dated guys. Just so you know. You are the only guy I’ve ever… ever… done stuff with.” Kyle finds that hard to believe. “I am.” “Yes.” Fish flashes uncharacteristic anger. “What about you? Have you dated guys?” “No. There was just you. That’s actually why I came looking for you. Since running into you the other day I can’t get you out of my mind.” Fish softens. “We did have some good times.” “We did. Look, I don’t know what your situation is now, but we both live in Llanview and we have a history, so I was thinking we maybe should, I don’t know, spend some time together.” Fish looked at his first male crush and remembered those good times and then he remember the not so good parting. “You really hurt me. The things you said.” “I know. I’m really sorry about that. I just want the chance to make it up to you.” “So you are fine with being gay now? In public? Going on dates and such?” “I want to be, but I’d be lying if I said I was.” Kyle offered his hopeful eyes. Cristian takes this in and finds it seriously amusing, but he has to hide that amusement. After a moment or two, Fish responds, “Well, I guess that is a step in the right direction.” “Let’s give it a try. You want to? I do! We had something really nice, maybe we can get it back.” Fish starts to offer his hand, but stops mid-way across the table. “I’m on nightshift for two more nights. And looks like you work day shift.” “Well then we can do dinner and a movie. The traditional route.” “That does sound good. Certainly the best offer I’ve had in a month of Sundays.” Kyle brightens considerably. “Great. How about tonight? Say Capricorn at six?” Ollie shrugs. It’s a happy shrug. “I’ll be there.” “Great!” Kyle stands, pauses awkwardly for a few seconds and then pats his date-to-be’s shoulder. “See you then.” As he exits Kyle passes Rex Balsom who enters yelling, “Cristian, I need a strong black coffee.” “Coming right up!” Cristian yells back and then turns to pour the coffee and when he turns back is surprised to find Rex sitting with Fish. This just gets better and better, he thinks. “So, she said that?” Rex presses. “Who said what?” Cristian says, as he delivers the coffee, which Rex drinks much too quickly. “Careful, our coffee is hot.” “Like, I don’t know that.” Rex shoots back, fanning his mouth. Cristian widens his beautiful dark eyes. “Apparently…” “Whatever!” Rex says, dismissing Cristian’s interest in his powers of observation. “So Stacey said she liked me, just after the Go Red Ball?” “Not in those words,” Fish counters, as he himself became overheated and moved to loosen his collar. “But… but… that is what she meant. She definitely feels something for you.” “And that is why she dumped you?” “Yeah! I believe it is.” “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I could kiss you.” Rex effuses as he stands and grabs up his coffee. Fish blushes again, this time it is a much deeper blush, which, of course, Cristian notices. Rex stops and kisses the young officers head. “You just saved me and Gigi.” And then he was gone. “I did!” Fish says to the empty space behind Rex. Cristian again sits on the empty bench and is waiting for Fish to catch his gaze. When he does Cristian says, “Somebody has a secret.” “Who?” Fish says innocently. “You. Oliver Fish. You.” Cristian is grinning from ear to ear. Ollie just looks at him suspiciously. “What are grinning about?” “You. You’re a much more popular guy than I thought. With the women and the men, apparently.” Cristian teases. “I can explain.” “No need.” Cristian states. “No need, but I’d like to hear it. We should go for beers the next time you’re off work. Want to?” “Sure!” Oliver replies, somewhat confused. “Great! It’s a date.” Cristian winks and then stands. “A date?” Fish repeats mindlessly. “Yeah, a date. You know a date to have beers with a friend. You didn’t think it was something else did you?” “No. No. Of course not.” Cristian smiles mischievously, just as John McBain walks in. Cristian points to the empty booth. “I assume.” “Yeah. How’d you know?” McBain says dryly. “You have your skill set. I have mine. Coffee. Breakfast.” “Coffee, black.” “I knew that.” Cristian says as he scoots off to get the brew. “What was that about?” McBain asks his mysterious sidekick. Fish just shakes his head. “I’m not sure.” Edited by b32guy, Aug 1 2009, 06:19 PM.

:halo: the emoticon represents someone who is precient (not angelic, per se). You totally beat the writers to their story, amazing. Unfortunately, I'm still so new to 1L2L, that I don't know who several of the characters are, and obviously miss your neuanced set-up for them. But I'm down for the story!! Thanx, excited to keep reading! On to chapter two! Nukester |
