Here's my theory: I think they had to share a college dorm room. Along with being college mates and frat brothers, they were, they were roommates. Since they are opposites, Oliver is the good, straight (no pun intended! :P )-by-the-book and computer nerd kind of guy, and Kyle is the devilish bad-boy who is extremely smart, and lives life as it comes (more of a free spirit). In the beginning, they don't really get along. However, as time goes on, they begin to appreciate and understand the others personality. In fact, they bring a change in each other. Kyle becomes more conscious of his bad boy ways, while Oliver loosen up and becomes more of a free spirit. I think their attraction begins when they first meet. During the course of the school year, their sexual relationship begins with brief and accidental touching (exs: hands reaching for the same book and their fingers touch, accidentially running into each other, bumping arms), lingering glances, watching the other person when the other one is not looking, suddenly showing up when they know the other person is going to be at a certain place at a certain time. From there it progresses to playful fighting, where their arms and legs suddenly become entertwined, their bodies touching and their faces almost touching. These encounters embarrass and freighten them at first. As the sexual tension builds, the playfulness becomes more frequent and natural. Along the way, they get to know each other other. . .they see things in the other person that the outside world doesn't. They bond emotionally. I think their "experimentation" begins with an expected kiss. . .a playful and lingering one! This happens during one of their playful interactions where Kyle and Oliver end up on the floor or on one of their beds. They realize what is happening and suddenly stop wrestling. They are laying on top of one another, arms and legs are entertwined, and their faces a mere breath away. They look into each others eyes for a moment longer than they should, and then their eyes wander down to the others parted lips. Their gazes travels back up to each others eyes. They see longing and desire. Without forethought or a moments hesitation, their parted lips meet. What starts as a playful kiss, turns into a long a smouldering kiss. One that sends a bolt of desire through them. Suddenly, realizing what they were doing, they pull apart. When they look at each other, they see shock, fear and desire. Fearing the other one would be repulsed by what happened, their guard goes up and waited for the reprecussions. However, none came. Instead, they talk about what happened. They decide to continue with their "experimentation". What starts out as a few kisses, progresses to touching and make-out sessions, and finally to making love. Their "personal relationship" begins. They are happy, and along the way they fall in love. However, there are a few ground rules. Their relationship is a secret. They go out, but they appear as two college buddies spending time together and having a good time. When they are alone, they call each other Oliver and Kyle. However, when they are with their college buddies, they are Fish and Lewis. When they are alone, the sky's the limit! By the end of their college experience, Kyle wants to be out and open with their relationship and Fish does not. I think Kyle has a more liberal background and doesn't have to meet anyone's standards. On the other hand, Fish comes from a family who has strict family and social value system. Kyle is willing to take the chance, Oliver is not. I remember the scenes where Fish told Kyle, "Don't call me Oliver." "It's personal. Since we don't have a personal relationship anymore. . ." Oliver sounded hurt and said; Kyle said nothing. It's evident that Kyle still cares a great deal for Oliver. . . .carrying an old photograph of the two of them together for how many years? Okay, I'm going to stop here. My intention was to write a couple paragraphs. I can't wait to relive Kish's college history! :$ |
