Part 7 WARNING: Some strong language and slurs on Stacy’s part. Just thought you guys should be aware. Afternoon, 8 March “It’s over, CJ,” announced Kyle as he came back from class. CJ was busy assembling a 1,000-piece puzzle set. “What is over, Kyle?” asked CJ. “You and I,” grunted Kyle as he looked for something to eat in the fridge. “What made you come to that decision?” CJ waited patiently for an answer. “You’re not really my type, CJ. That’s all,” shrugged Kyle while scouring the fridge. He found some graham crackers and started munching. “Whatever. Something else is bothering you, I can tell.” CJ then fit in the last edge piece. “So what’s the puzzle gonna look like when you’re done with it?” asked Kyle. “A skyline of New York. Quit changing the topic. What’s going down with you?” Pulling up a seat next to CJ, Kyle went on to say, “You know the bet I made with Stacy Morasco?” In acknowledgement, CJ nodded, “Yeah, you were gonna get 20 grand if Stacy and Rex didn’t get back together.” “Well, I know something that would ensure me the 20 grand.” Perking up at Kyle statement, CJ took his eyes off his puzzle and looked towards Kyle. “Which is?” CJ inquired intently. “Let’s just say that Stacy has not been all that forthcoming about the identity of her baby daddy,” Kyle declared. “So, are you spilling the beans to Rex and expose Stacy in the process?” asked CJ, noting the indecision on Kyle’s face and behavior. Nervously, Kyle was drumming his fingers on the table, making a rather irksome noise. “Well, open knowledge of the truth can cause a ripple effect that would damage the true father of the baby and his reputation,” sighed Kyle. “Fun,” replied CJ. “I know. I’m gonna be the bad guy if I keep my mouth shut and if I open it,” lamented Kyle. “If that is so, it makes no difference what you do. Flip a coin if you have to. By the way, since we just broke up, can we have one more romp in the sack?…for the road, of course” uttered CJ, who happened to find 2 stray puzzle pieces on the floor. Afternoon, 25 March “Is the food ready, Cristian? Layla, are the decorations up?” excitedly spazzed Fish after he was finished vacuuming the floors in the living room. “I want to make sure everything is ready for when Rex brings Stacy and Junior here from the hospital.” Nothing could have made Fish any more thrilled than to welcome back Stacy and to meet Junior for the first time. “The stew will be done in about a minute or so. Chill out, man,” yelled Cris, who was also adding butter to the boiled corn. “Just let me get this last streamer up,” called out Layla. Meanwhile, a knock was heard from the door. Fish dashed to answer it. He opened the door to see Kyle standing there with balloons on his hand. “What up, Oliver? Stacy invited me. She told me to bring balloons,” calmly stated Kyle, who Fish reluctantly admitted in. “So, where’s the star of the show?” “She’s on her way,” said Fish. The doorbell rang. “That must be her right now.” In walked Stacy, Rex, and a gentle newborn. “Hey, everybody! Junior is here!” gasped Stacy in glee. Everybody took turns admiring and holding little Junior. When it came to be Fish’s turn, Junior blinked his little eyes and made a little sound, as if recognizing who was holding him. “Aww, he likes you, Fish,” giggled Layla. As if on cue, Stacy quickly grabbed a hold of Junior from Fish and announced, “Ok, mommy time. I gotta put him on his crib,” A little bit later “At last, he’s asleep,” said Stacy as she joined the others at the living room. Rex put his arm around her and cleared his throat. “Now’s a good time for an announcement. At the hospital, I got down on one knee at Stacy’s bedside and proposed to her. We set a date for this summer. You are all welcome to attend,” proclaimed Rex before sharing a smooch with Stacy to a round of applause from Cris, Layla, and Fish. Kyle gagged with disgust. Noticing Kyle and his reaction, Stacy stealthily stuck her tongue at him. She then grabbed a wine glass and said, “I wanna make a toast to my little newborn son. Junior is a symbol of a new beginning for Rex and I. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with these two boys by my side. To Junior,” “To Junior,” responded everyone. At that point, Kyle was overwhelmed by unease. He then made a ballsy statement, “I want to make a toast myself. To Stacy”. Stacy raised her eyebrow, not knowing what Kyle had in store. Kyle continued, “To a fearless woman who underwent what must have been a hard pregnancy. Not once did she consider giving up and terminating the pregnancy. She carried Junior to term. Stacy has shown us how a woman could do anything in the name of love. She has found her way back to Rex’s heart, even if it took lying about who Junior’s father really is. To Stacy. Let’s drink to that.”. Everybody was stunned. “You’re nothing but a creep, Kyle. Let me tell you a little something about Kyle Lewis, folks,” steamed Stacy. “He made a bet with me that if Rex and I don’t get together by April of this year, I would owe him 20,000 buckaroos. What a low way to get cash, Kyle. How dare you make up a lie like that? Rex is the baby’s father and he’s gonna wed me!” “I thought you’ve changed, Kyle. Turns out I was right about you all along,” muttered a pensive Fish. “Before you guys throw your stones, hear me out!” blurted out Kyle. “Rex, has Stacy ever told you the due date of Junior?” “No, she hasn’t. Why does it matter?” asked a now worried Rex. “March the 31st. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Fish. He knows,” pointed out Kyle. “It’s true, Rex. It was March the 31st. But, Kyle, what are you getting at?” questioned Fish. “Stop right there! March the 31st?!” exclaimed Rex. “The only time I slept with Stacy was June the 9th which means that the due date…” “…is wrong. By my calculations, based on the due date of March the 31st, the date of Junior’s conception is July the 8th.” disclosed Kyle. The color on Fish’s face began to pale. “In addition, the father of Stacy’s baby, whom Stacy slept with July the 8th is…” “Me,” sputtered a bewildered Fish. Like a tigress coming after her prey, Stacy went into a full rage. “You have no right to betray me like that! You swore to tell nobody of our night together,” she spouted. “Well, you failed to tell me that J-J-Junior was my child. After all…the times I dr-dr-drove you to the hospital for your check-ups. I even held my son in my arms and you…didn’t even let out a single peep. I think I should be the angry one, Stacy,” admonished Fish. “What would ever drive you to sleep with Stacy?” asked Layla to Fish. “Because otherwise, I would have told the whole world that he’s a F*GGOT! You heard it right, everybody. A fudge-packing f*ggot. He confessed to me about this, relationship he had with another boy in college. You should have seen the look when Fish pleaded with me not to tell and how he was all kinds of straight now. I couldn’t contain myself. I laughed. Once a queer, always a queer,” Stacy smirked. “Alrighty, I’m done here. See ya around.” She left the apartment without even taking Junior with her. Rex was shell-shocked. Kyle was angry. Cris and Layla were still trying to take the events in. Fish was on the couch all curled up in tears that won’t stop flowing… Evening, 29 March “He’s handsome, like his father,” admired Kyle, who saw Oliver Fish Junior sleeping in his crib. “You really think I’m handsome, Kyle?” asked Oliver Fish Senior. “Of course,” replied Kyle. “Thanks a lot for giving Junior and I a place to crash. Layla is angry that I dated her under the wrong pretenses. Cris is not too pleased at me either,” thanked Fish. “Anything for you, Oliver. You can stay as long as you wish,” offered Kyle. “I can’t believe that Stacy would sign away her parental rights just like that. Talk about here today, gone the next,” mentioned Fish. “Oliver, she no longer had any need for her son, now that Rex knows the truth. Some friend she is, she even left you high and dry,” pointed out Kyle. “I appreciate it that you spoke up at the party. I hope you enjoy your 20 grand.” Kyle put his arm around Fish’s shoulder. “I would have done it without the 20 grand at stake. I wanted you to know who your son is, Oliver,” Kyle spoke softly. “Wow, you really do care,” smiled Fish. Then, Kyle’s took his arm off of Fish’s shoulder and he touched Fish’s hands. “After I get secured in my career as a doctor, I’m moving back to Mississippi and renovating the family beachfront property. Oliver, I would like it if you and Junior…move with me, permanently,” propounded Kyle. “You know, I’d be glad to. Does that mean we are boyfriends again?” asked Fish. “No, I just want to have some kind of future with you and your son. Oliver, whatever relationship we have between us we can work out eventually. Right now, I just want to know if you are willing to take that risk with me,” asserted Kyle. “I’m on board,” declared Fish. “That’s awesome. Now, would you like to join me in bed?” asked Kyle. “What?” chuckled Fish nervously. “No, not that, Oliver. Get your mind off the gutter. There will be no sex between us tonight. I just want to hang out, like the old KAD days. I just want to forget about Stacy, Rex, and CJ and start over with you,” spoke Kyle. Making their way to the bed, with Kyle’s hand holding on to Fish’s, all the troubles of the world started to fade. No sex, no kisses, just Fish snuggled tightly next to Kyle. The cop felt safe in Kyle’s arms. Tomorrow was gonna be a new day. Both men knew it. THE END Note: There you have it. Thanks for all the support. I wouldn't have done it if it weren't for you guys. |
