Michael Schumacher is set to come out of retirement and change teams, he retired in 2006 after winning 7 World Championships. The big surprise is not that he will return to Formula 1, it's that he's leaving Ferrari after being with them for 13 years. That's like since I was born! He said "there is a very, very, very strong possibility" of joining Mercedes for next year.

I'm glad to hear that Kobayashi signed with Sauber for next year. When Timo Glock got injured this year, Kamui Kobayashi raced a Formula 1 car for the first time in the last two races of the season. He drove well in the first race but in the last race he at Abu Dhabi he kicked World Champion Jenson buttons bum all around the course & finished 6th.

It's official, Michael Schumacher has signed with Mercedes for 3 seasons. He said that working with Ross Brawn was the only way he would come back. Schumacher won all 7 of his World Championships with Ross Brawn. Ross started Brawn GP last year and still runs the team after selling it to Mercedes. After being with Ferrari for 14 years they split on good terms, Michael Schumacher said: "My thoughts initially go to Ferrari. I'm very pleased that the split-up goes off that harmoniously and that we are still on friendly terms with each other."

Now that Schumacher is coming back to F1, there's a lot of rumours about Jacques Villeneauve coming back too.
I don't think it's going to happen even tho he's looking for a car but it would be great if he could get a good car & one of the greatest rivalries in Formula 1 was back.

The first Formula 1 race of the season is this weekend in Bahrain and we get to see who has the fastest cars this year. The bad news is that Jacques Villeneuve didn't get a drive so we won't get to see the Villeneuve/Schumacher rivalry and of course, the big news; the new US F1 team was not ready in time so we still do not have an American F1 team. HRT have made it in time but it was so close they have not even tested their car. This weeks race will be the first 'test session' for the brand new car!

For the top teams, both McLaren drivers are in a hurry to prove they are the best on the team & that their World Championships weren't flukes. McLaren has a new wing design that was just declared legal yesterday so it will be interesting to see if it's the big thing for this year.
Fernando Alonso seems happy at Ferrari so it will be good to see how he does with a new team & a better car. It is going to be great to see Massa back at last after his injury so even if the drivers aren't thrilled with the car, it will be interesting to watch Ferrari.
Red Bull has had some problems this weekend but it has done good in testing and was the best car by the end of last season. With the same great drivers as last year they should do well this weekend.
Nico Rosberg was the fastest driver in the second practice and even though he had understeer problems, Michael Schumacher was third.Mercedes look like they will still be one of the top teams this year. They bought Brawn, which won the championship last year & this will be the first Mercedes factory team in about 50 years.

Who Else I'll be watching.

Kamui Kobayashi did a great job in the 2 races he was in last year, including kicking World Champion Jenson Button's bum around the track. BMW Sauber may not be the fastest car on the track but it's going to be fun to watch Kobayashi drive. I think Japan finally has a driver that deserves an F1 seat. This is his first F1 race here but he knows the track and won 2 GP2 races here.

Pedro de la Rosa is back & he is driving for Sauber too.I liked Pedro when I was a little kid (shut up Wetter) but he spent the last 7 years as a test driver for McLaren. He drove for McLaren when Montoya was injured & then when they dumped Montoya and his best finish was 2nd at Hungary.

I really liked Vitantonio Liuzzi when he drove for Torro Rosso, he's one of the coolest drivers in F1. After he left Torro Rosso he was the test driver for Force India. When Giancarlo Fisichella left Force India to go to Ferrari, Luizzi replaced him. I was glad to hear they kept him as a driver for this season and hope he has a good season. He says that this is the best car he has driven in his 5 years in F1.

Adrian Sutil, Force India is another driver I like & is fun to watch.

I like Timo Glock and he's a good driver but he's driving for Virgin this year. It's one of the new teams and they say it has the smallest budget so I'm not expecting too much.

Rubens Barrichello is the oldest driver on the track but I like him. I've been watching him since I was little. Williams is one of the teams using the Cosworth engine this year and they did very good with it the last time they used it.

Lotus: OK, I don't even remember Lotus, they got out of F1 before I was even born! But I guess they used to be as good as Ferrari and now they're back. They are also using the Cosworth engine and I guess they won some Championships with it before and for they are painting the cars in the traditional Lotus racing colours so it will be interesting to see how they do. They have Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli driving so they have good drivers and so far they are the best of the new teams. If they do good, it will be fun to watch & if they do bad, I can finally tell Dr. Seuss to be quiet, they're just a bunch of losers.

I must be crazy, this was a lot of work & probably a waste of time because practice doesn't mean anything & we won't know anything until qualifying.

Sebring & Video Games

(Marc) Gene will drive with fellow reigning Le Mans 24 Hours winner Alexander Wurz and Anthony Davidson. Only Davidson has competed in the 12 Hours while the trio of Minassian, Sebastien Bourdais and Pedro Lamy in the sister car have 18 starts between them.

“I was very worried before coming here because I had heard so much about it,” Gene said. “There were the bumps, the fast curves. I tried to play it on video games but I had to play it so much! Then I moved on to videos and Nic helped me a lot. If it weren’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have won pole position.”

The two Peugeots have been utterly dominant this week with the two fastest times in each session. That continued Friday with the 908s locking fellow LMP1 competitors Aston Martin Racing and Drayson Racing out of the front row.

Link to Story

Reading this story reminds me of how many jokes Jacques Villeneuve had to deal with for admitting that he played racing games. Jacques is kind of a geek, in the bio of his first year in Formula One there is a story about him buying a computer when he was on the road for a race and the store owner said Jacques could have a job at the store. He was the first driver to use video games to learn new tracks. Most drivers use games now but they made a lot of jokes when Jacques said he played them. It sounded really strange a couple years ago when one of the F1 announcers was joking about "Jacques and his video games." I was thinking, doesn't he know that everyone does that now?

Ferrari referred to WMSC over team orders
Full Story & Photos

My View
After finishing one-two in the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, Ferrari have been fined $100,000 U.S. by the FIA for giving team orders. Fernando Alonso passed Felipe Massa for the lead on Lap 49, right after Massa’s engineer told him by radio, "Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?" If you heard the message it was pretty clear that Rob Smedley did not want to give the message & Massa was NOT happy to get it but at this time, Alonso was faster than Massa and the last thing you want is two team mates racing each other and having an accident. That happens all the time and it happened in the last race, Mark Webber was in first place for Red Bull and his team mate Sebastion Vettel was in second. When the team told them to slow down a bit to save their cars, Vettel tried to pass Webber and they crashed. Webber got his car back on track and finished the race but Vettel was done. Red Bull lost a one-two finish and a lot of points for the Constructors Championship. I don't think Ferrari should of got the fine, they were just trying to avoid this from happening to them. It's not like the last time when Ferrari made Ruebens Barrichello give the lead to Michael Shumacher in second place when Barrichello was clearly faster. After the race Massa made it clear he was not happy & I would have preferred to see them race for the lead but I don't think Ferrari deserved the maximum fine for just trying to protect the cars.

I'm waiting for the Grand Prix of Turkey. Last year Sebatian Vettel crashed into his teammate Mark Webber while Webber was leading. Last race (in China) Vettel stared in pole position (1st) & Webber started 18th. Vettel dropped back to second & Webber went through the field to get 3rd place & he was catching Vettel when the race ended. I'm hoping this race will be just as good.
