Haggling for a better price use to be only for yard sales and flea markets....and sometimes car dealers gave you the "illusion" of talking the price down. The economy is in a slump right now, people have less disposable income and tend to look more for bargains....the net effect is that this is hurting the retailers where it hurts them most....in the cash register. Places that used to have all prices set in stone are now sometimes willing to take a few dollars off to make a sale, even places like Walmart and K-Mart. Shop when the store isn't busy and ask nicely for a break on the price, tell them you really want to buy the item but think the price is a bit too high. If you can get a cashier to call a manager he or she will often knock off a few dollars to make the sale, especially if it's a costly item. It doesn't hurt to ask and you may be pleasantly surprised and save some money. Try it...You have nothing to lose except a few minutes of your time.

Although I have never tried your idea on an undamaged item, I have tried it on items that are slightly damaged (a chip or nick out of it that can easily be repaired with some epoxy, putty or clay, or a clothing item with a slight rip or stain) and it does work for getting the price down then, a couple times to half the original price!!! I will definitely give it a try on the higher priced items next time!! I also know that this does work on food items in the grocery store, especially meats, take them to the meat counter & say you really want to purchase the item, but feel the price is a bit too high & ask to see a manager...usually you will at least save a few dollars. Good luck & Happy Shopping!! |
