Welcome to the depths of the ocean, where the sun is a myth and life is strange. Here we have built a dome of crystal and composite, within which we conduct our business. This facility is many things; research laboratory, foundry, storefront. Here we create, test, produce, and sell the technologies that make life easier, safer, and entertaining. Direct access to the submerged facility is prohibited and in most cases impossible. Upon the surface of the waves is a platform occupying one square mile, capable of floating with the weight of all but the largest spacefaring craft and ringed with piers and similar facilities for ocean craft. Transport from the platform to the facility below is handled by the administration. Inventory (This should not be taken as remotely exclusive) Computer Software

The deep sea facility is a massive hemisphere on the bottom of the ocean, located near a hydrothermal vent system populated by luminescent bacteria and lichens that create a fascinating spectacle for travelers on their way to the dome and for those in the observation gallery. This ecosystem is located to the south of the dome. From outside, the dome is a featureless opaque green, with a transparent top. To the north of the dome is a shaft in the ocean bedrock lined with the same green material, this leads to an air pocket used as a hanger for the submersibles. While the exterior is a dome, to better handle the pressures placed upon it, the interior is rectangular to simplify the floorplan. The wasted space is used as a warehouse for mass produced goods not yet on shelves in the commercial zone, with the exception of the upper dome which serves as an observation deck complete with coin-operated light-enhancing binocular stands. There are three ways into the dome. The most common is by ring transporter from the platform above -- these devices are the fastest and arguably safest method of entry. Less common are the four submersibles, typically used only for bulk goods too large for the rings. The third and rarest entry into the facility is a StarGate, a device capable of taking people and very small ships to and from other planets. The StarGate has considerable automated defenses capable of incapacitating or eliminating any foreseeable threat. It should be noted that weapons of all kinds are confiscated from all visitors upon their arrival. They are returned at departure. ![]() The main floor of Echelon Emporium includes six storefronts around a rectangular hallway. More than a few of these locations have branch products, such as a variety of transformative compounds in the Pharmaceutical department. A zoo is included along one wall to give alien visitors a taste of Earth animals. As such it includes common domestic species such as dogs and cats moreso than exotic wild animals. Security is handled by military contracts with several nations human and otherwise, and serves as embassy and observation by those governments. The Aquinas Hub, R&D, and Industrial sections are off limits to the general public. The elevator is actually a derivative of ring teleporters, although it fulfills the same purpose as a typical elevator. There are several other levels of the facility open to the public, each one a single department. They are General electronics Personal starship design Genetic design and resequencing Robotics and Cybernetics Contracting (all services and products not for home use are handled here) Luxury Hotel Internet Cafe Four-star multinational restaurant Free Hospital Observation Deck Echelon Emporium is fully equipped with holographic projection technology which allows the local AI to interact with all visitors, and features a sufficient robotic presence to act in a fully autonomous capacity. However, due to galactic politics, it employs a largely organic staff and is now hiring. Edited by Ryvaken, Apr 23 2008, 06:48 PM.

The voice at the other end of the phone was male, calm, and had no trace of comedy. "Have you ever been involved in the attempted or successful overthrow of a third world regime?" |

(It should be noted that there is no way to tell where a dial-in originates from) The control room came alive with activity as the people and computers reacted to the offworld activation. Ceiling mounted turrets deployed and oriented to cover the elevated platform to the StarGate, forceshields came up to isolate the gate room from the main hallway, and Tollan designed weapon scanners in the walls came online. |
