to my recollection, there's a massive tonal shift somewhere around the middle from loosely-related hijinx adventures to stone-faced serious drama, with no real transitional period. trigun is like two shows duct-taped together with no idea how to properly execute either. i'd rather watch gungrave for yasuhiro nightow-penned gunfighter action. tsuneo imahori even scored both series. |

I remember liking Trigun, but it was also one of the first shows I'd seen (not that I've seen terribly much even now) and it was quite a while back. Wonder how I'd feel about it now— probably would agree with Diplo, I think. So is Gungrave worth watching then, Peklo? |

i'd say it is. it's kind of a small miracle, because it manages to become a pretty engaging character drama in spite of its video-game-as-hell origins, despite faltering a bit along the way because of said qualities. it begins and ends on a satisfying note. |

IDK if I would recommend Gungrave now. I'd have to watch it again, although I remember being bummed about the show turning into the videogame. Brandon was a pretty weak protag. There's a difference between introversion and mute shallowness. All told, my questionable opinion is, "Buy both of the soundtracks, as they are the best anime soundtracks ever, and develop your own narrative around them." |

For a very very good and moving study on introversion, read Kokou no Hito. |

Hmm... both of you kind of reinforce what I've heard, that Gungrave's video game origins really hold it back. I might get around to watching it, but it won't be a priority of mine. Thanks, though! |

I never said I didn't like the original, I meant that the series itself just seems too large to watch without putting aside a lot of time. G Gundam sounds perfect. |

THE STORY BEGINS WITH THE FATEFUL ENCOUNTER OF THE HERO AND THE DRAGON. "I'VE FOUND YOU. YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE." "WHY ME?" "WHY MUST I DEFEAT THE DRAGON?" THESE QUESTIONS CAN ONLY BE ANSWERED BY THE DRAGON ITSELF... THE DRAGON RIPS OUT THE HERO'S HEART. HOWEVER, HE REVIVES... FOR HE IS THE LEGENDARY "ARISEN," DESTINED TO DEFEAT THE DRAGON. | |

:D If it's length you're concerned about, though, DEFINITELY check out Gundam 0080. It's a short OVA--only 6 episodes--and you only need to have watched the original series to really understand it. :o |

Gundam X is good and a bit shorter than most of the regular series— 'only' 39 episodes. |

I'm not terribly concerned about length, I just wasn't sure if I was going to get into the series since it was so big. I was going to watch the next arc if it's not too different from the first. I really liked the original partially for all the unintentional humor, especially with the English voice-overs, and how Zeon had a policy of giving their mobile suits the most horrible names possible. That and Char being unadulteratedly badass. And stuff like this: http://youtu.be/2LdyULC-FtU?t=5m31s On the other hand, I think I'll watch... ![]() Edited by Von Gaibon, Jun 2 2012, 05:38 PM.

I'm watching Zeta Gundam now. It's not too different from the original which is fine with me. The first episode was pretty unpredictable, too, so I'm definitely enjoying it. I love how obvious Char's undercover identity is -- from his fondness of pink spacesuits to his unbelievably successful tactics. He's just too fast!! :O I now have a matching avatar with Gunlord AND Peklo.
