^this and also One Piece, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop I honestly haven't watched much anime, but maybe what I'm doing counts as trying or something. Haven't heard of most of the ones mentioned here with Gurren Lagann, Monster, and Ghost in the Shell being the exceptions. (edit: and Fullmetal Alchemist:Bro) Watching Gurren Lagann now. Favorite song so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJo_3B5-1uk&feature=related (shouting starts at 0:48) =3 Edited by Von Gaibon, Apr 13 2012, 12:12 AM.

THE STORY BEGINS WITH THE FATEFUL ENCOUNTER OF THE HERO AND THE DRAGON. "I'VE FOUND YOU. YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE." "WHY ME?" "WHY MUST I DEFEAT THE DRAGON?" THESE QUESTIONS CAN ONLY BE ANSWERED BY THE DRAGON ITSELF... THE DRAGON RIPS OUT THE HERO'S HEART. HOWEVER, HE REVIVES... FOR HE IS THE LEGENDARY "ARISEN," DESTINED TO DEFEAT THE DRAGON. | |

Uh, not really! What was terrible about it? Got to the timeskip for Gurren Lagann and I'm not sure I like what they did with it. The characters' behaviors seem a little forced and the plot reads like an episode of Pokemon or something... at least it still looks cool. |

it suffers from a low-budget production incapable of matching or satisfyingly adapting miura's hyper-detailed art into animated form, and from covering only a fraction of the plot, ending on a cliffhanger for the ages. certain plot elements and characters are also depicted differently or wholly excised, to its detriment. you'd be better off reading it. the new series of films is probably better just on the basis of being more faithful and complete, but what i saw of it didn't look too hot. it's overflowing with bland cgi. |

Fuck. I was looking forward to them. Oh well. I guess I can just read the comic (or wait another 20 years for it to finish). |

Everything. :( I feel like Trigun -- at least outside of Japan -- has been hoisted up because it's one of the first post-DBZ anime shows people who were new to anime watched, meaning that the upgrade in character dynamics must've seemed huge. And that comparative experience has been romanticized and enlarged. Although I have to say that Vash is a slightly more robust and annoying version of Goku, what with hating violence and exhibiting a shift between nigh-clueless irreverence (lol!!! he likes donuts!!! epic random) and SERIOUS TIME. I hear that the manga is actually worse. If that's the case, I should probably read it. Everyone watch Shigurui. |

Maybe it's not hating violence but hating murder. |
