man, i've been meaning to check out that OST but I keep forgetting. diplo linked me to a few songs a while back, and they were great, but my memory isn't quite as great. i am really digging those songs atm. |

i've listened to more of the psp version's songs and i guess i'm not that impressed with most of them. the ones that are re-arranged by sakimoto and iwata tend to be the best. no one else at basiscape has as good of an ear for instrumental combinations as those two do. |

all the material is new to me, so at this point i'm mostly concerned with composition. and it's so good. i went and checked, and some stuff like "impregnable defense" there originates from the very first ogre battle, which is pretty neat.

not as new as it is to me. i'm listening to the songs as i (slowly) play through the game. speaking of which, it has a sound test that has liner notes for the songs. iwata comments along with the arrangers, but sakimoto hasn't said anything yet. oops. |

FFXIII - The Pompa Sancta for a moment there, i thought i was listening to a song from ff12. in other words, im getting kind of a sakimoto vibe from this. edit: Chrono Trigger - Singing Mountain i'm kind of digging this song, lately. it's a shame it never made it into the game; i like it better than most of the area themes in the game. it has this nice sense of both grandeur and melancholy. the pompa sancta has the distinction of playing in the most pointless segment of the game. which is quite a feat singing mountain is so good, man. they put it in the (hideous) bonus content in the ds port, so that's something i guess. i have all three of those on my mp3 player already. will to fight has to be my favorite song from the game; it just has this great sense of progression and atmosphere. i've also been digging FFXIII - Test of the l'cie [enhaned] lately (thats a link). also, the "enhanced" thing is kind of neat; it's subtle, but i can see a difference between it and other versions of the song (or other songs he has applied the same treatment to). i think i like the [enhanced] versions slightly better, they give off more of a sense of space and depth. i want to hurt something every time i see that someone has posted made-up lyrics for lyricless video game songs on youtube. when i see that their comment is the highest rated comment, my irritation becomes profound sorrow |

that happens a lot with yuki kajiura songs, because she always has those retarded (i like them (i have terrible taste :3)) choirs that are basically instructed to just make noises that fit with the melody she wrote. even though its been officially stated that there are no lyrics, people persist. another favorite of mine in that respect is the Boss Theme from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (also a url). due to the prevalence of the vocals, people assign lyrics to them a lot; they work, but i've seen nothing implying that that is legitimately the case. as far as ffxiii is concerned, i see those lyrics for will to fight (and other songs) a lot, and most of them are pretty much the same. i've even seen a few people implying they're mentioned in the official soundtrack box.
