if you don't know him (why wouldn't/don't you you philistine) he's the amazing (and really really old he could die any day now :( ) composer behind all the Dragon Quest games' music he's an actual trained musician with experience conducting real orchestras and he grew up around music all the time so that's probably why he's so awesome at it (he also did soundtracks for musicals, TV shows, and anime (such as Cyborg 009, Gatchaman, Space Runaway Ideon) before working on Dragon Quest) some samples: a medley of orchestral versions of all the series' normal battle themes Heavenly Flight (from Dragon Quest VIII; appeared in DQ III originally) the main overture theme that appears in every single Dragon Quest game ever so yeah, either discuss why you think he's awesome (or if you're really lame + dumb, why you think he isn't awesome) or post some specific favorites of yours if any Edited by DrSlouch, Jan 6 2010, 11:12 PM.

Sugiyama is the man, and is way too underrated I've only heard a limited amount of music from his Dragon Quest titles, but that's all I really need to hear. his music almost has this "supra-classical" style to it that is both really calming and interesting and also brings about thoughts of antiquity its almost nostalgic, even despite the fact that his music is pretty new to me it practically embodies the "simplistic" charm of the DQ games as far as favorites go, in no particular order: Heavenly Flight (DQ III, SNES; i actually like this version better) Memories of an Ocean (DQVIII, PS2) Battle for the Glory (DQIV, PS1) |

he's also a historical revisionist (asshole alert) it's kinda funny that that idealism translates over to his music, though very reminiscent of plucky scores for mid-1900s american cinema podcast regarding sugiyama |

no, no thats thats a myth, right and besides historical revisionism isn't always bad... i mean... new facts can change the context of old facts and and right right he is also honorary chairman of the Japanese Backgammon Society, so thats uh something. |

revisionism usually doesn't refer to "logically changing our recordings of history as new facts come in" you probably already knew that but i just wanted to make sure it's okay though a lot of great artists were assholes in some way |

Not DeBussy. Debussy didn't believe in God. He didn't believe in the establishment. He didn't believe in bourgeoisie convention. He didn't believe in beethoven or wagner. He believed in DeBussy. Debussy understood that a work of art or an effort to create beauty was always by some people as a personal attack. He hated to appear in public. Hated to conduct. Hated to play hte piano at concerts. He preferred Cats to People. Edited by J. Beaumont, Jan 9 2010, 12:55 PM.

Dragon Quest III Reprise- Night Castle theme I found this song particularly interesting b/c it's probably one of the few (if only) times I've heard a Harpsichord replicated via the SNES |
