Scottish English to American English

a dinnieken - I don't know

aff - off, or from, depending on the usage

ah'ament - I'm not

ah'mno - I am not

amur - I am

amurny - I am not

arab - mild nuisance, trouble maker

auld - old

awfy peely-wally - sick, ill "Yer lookin' awfy peely-wally, son."

aye - yes or always

baffies - slippers, house shoes

bahookie freezer - a jacket that's too short

bairn - child

bajin - bad one

balloon - one with an exaggerated opinion of their own importance.

baltic - freezing, really really cold.

bampot - a mildy unhinged person, an idiot

barnie - a scuffle

barry - splendid, good, wonderful

bauchle - a small plump wife

bawbag - a useless preson

beedy - sharp or citrus like taste

beelin - a boil, boiling, or very angry look, angry

beid - to stay

ben - in or through (has been)

bint - fanciable woman

birl - to twirl or spin particularly to the point of dizziness

bits - boots or shoes

blether - gossip, chat extensively

bletherer - chatterbox, talkative person

bletherskite - someone talking rubbish, in the listener's opinion

boak - to throw up, be sick

bog - toilet, bathroom

boggin - useless, no good, smelly

bowfin - smelly, dirlty

brammer - excellence, usually associated with an individual

brassic - broke (to be without money)

breeks - pants

bubbly jock - turkey

bumpin yer gums - talking too much

bunker - the counter (as in: kitchen counter)

bunnet - a hat
