[size0]Please Note: At the present time, this only works for 32-bit versions of Windows Vista. However, 'VDos32' hopes to expand to 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, in the near future.

I have written this guide for the people out there who have just upgraded to Vista, and find they cannot play Tomb Raider 1 (hereafter TR1). You may be suprsied to know that installing TR1 on Vista is actually easier than it is on XP! Here's how to do it!

[size0]Without 'Glidos':

1. Uninstall TR1 from your hardrive if it is currently installed.
2. Go to http://www.vdos32.com/.
3. Scroll down and find: 'Tomb Raider I preconfigured for use with VDos32' (Software rendering).
4. Follow the link and download the program. Run the program. This will install: 'Tomb Raider I preconfigured for use with VDos32' (Software rendering).
5. Go back to http://www.vdos32.com/.
6. Download and install the latest version of 'VDos32'.
7. Open 'VDos32' and click 'Unlock'.
8. Unlock 'VDos32' and return to the main screen.
9. Select 'Load Program' and find 'TOMB' in 'C:/TOMBRAID' (by default).
10. Tomb Raider 1 will run!!

[size0]With 'Glidos':

1. Uninstall TR1 from your hardrive if it is currently installed.
2. Go to http://www.vdos32.com/.
3. Scroll down and find: 'Tomb Raider I preconfigured for use with VDos32 (Glide rendering) - requires Glidos'.
4. Follow the link and download the program. Run the program. This will install: 'Tomb Raider I preconfigured for use with VDos32 (Glide rendering) - requires Glidos'.
5. Go back to http://www.vdos32.com/.
6. Download and install the latest version of 'VDos32'.
7. Go to http://www.glidos.net/.
8. Download and install the lastest version of 'Glidos'.
9. Open 'VDos32' and click 'Unlock'.
10. Unlock 'VDos32' and close the program.
11. Move the 'VDos32' executable to 'C:/Programs Files/Glidos' (by default).
12. Open 'Glidos' and make sure 'Tomb Raider' is selected from the drop-down list of games.
13. Click the 'adjust' button and find the tab named 'DOS'. Select: 'Use 'VDos32''.
14. Take this oppurtunity to configure any additional settings for the game in the 'adjust' dialog box.
15. Click: 'Start Game'.
16. Tomb Raider 1 will run!!

[size0]'JoyToKey'

'JoyToKey' is a handy tool that lets you play TR1 with a USB game controller.

1. Go to http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the download button.
3. Follow the link and download the program.
4. Unzip the entire contents to a folder on your desktop and run the executable named 'JoyToKey.exe'.
5. Select the 'Create' button and name the new configuration: 'Tomb Raider 1'
6. Delete the configuration called 'First Configuration'.
7. Make sure you know which button number the buttons on your gamepad correspond to.
8. The picture belows shows the default keys for Tomb Raider 1, which will need to be entered into 'JoyToKey' later.

9. Using 'JoyToKey', input the key that you want to correspond to a button on your gamepad. For example: If you wanted to use 'Button 1' on your joypad for the command: 'Jump', you would map the keyboard key in 'JoyToKey' as 'ALT', as shown below.

10. Do this for all buttons and keys.
11. Just make sure that 'JoyToKey' is running while playing TR1, and your USB controller will work perfectly.

[size0]Click here for additional help on how to configure your gamepad so that the directional arrows work as movement keys. This only applies to gamepads with an analog stick/s (thumb stick/s).

[size0]Comments are appreciated. :)

For Tomb Raider: 1 on Windows Vista? I don't think that would work.

I've got Vista and I followed the first guide, (Without 'Glidos'). Everything worked perfectly untill I was done installing the game and was about to open it. Then a message came up saying:

"TombVDM
This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

So I have no choise but to click on the 'Close' button and then TR1 didn't start :-/
Does anybody have any idea about what I can do?

EDIT:
Now I tried to click on the 'Load Program' button and go to 'TOMB' in 'C:/TOMBRAID' (step 8. in the "Without 'Glidos'"-guide) once again. This time the game started but the screen was very little. I took a 'print screen' showing how little it is:

I can play the game now, but it's pretty annoying that the screen is so small :( Is there anything I can do to make it bigger??

Pressing the Alt+Enter keys together makes windowed games fullscreen. :)
Ah, thank you! I will try that right now ^_^

Edit:
Hmm.. It doesn't seem to work. When am I supposed to press them? 'Cause if I do it while I'm in the menu, it just enters whatever it's on (Lara's home, passport and so on..) and if I do it in the game, Lara jumps, because alt is the jump key :-/ And I press them at the same time - not after each other. So what could I be doing wrong?

Hmm. Did a bit of reading and it would appear that full screen is a Glidos exclusive. :(

Glidos is only $10 though, and you can buy it through Paypal so it will convert to your currency. I think I'm right that you're Danish :D , so here's the price in Kroner! :P

47.6133 DKK

Haha.. Yeah, we use 'kroner' :D But in danish, when you write it that way, it'll be 47,6133 DKK! Hehe :)
But anyway.. I don't think I'll buy it. I don't play Tomb Raider that much anyway.. only on my PS2 ;) But here, not so long time ago, I found a 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider Collection'-pack with TR 1-6. So I bought it 'cause it was very cheap, and the only games I already had was Chronicles and AoD (and Legend and Anniversary, but they weren't a part of the pack, so..)
So I began to install the games except AoD and Chronicles, but both TR1 and Last Revelation didn't work. And now TR1 works, but only with the small screen :-/
