Announcements
Hello members and guests! We have a few announcements here to make, first off; IK Reopens! After being closed for way too long, me and Luna have worked and brought IK back!
And we have a New Theme! I basically finished it, and just put it up last night. Let me know what you think.
We even got a new thing here, where you can help Build a Community, where you can make your own tavern or shop for In Character purposes, to give more depth to a character if they own a shop, then get your own forum for it.
There are also plenty of new forums! Welcome the Continents of Lebenna and Estahs!

That's all for now, but since we're getting back in action, plots will be started soon, where your characters can be a part of, and help the world either be destroyed, or saved.

The giant orb flickered to life as the sun’s last sliver slipped beneath the horizon. It lit up the entranceway to the temple with a steady glow making the need for torches non-existent. The marble on the floor and ceiling gave off the feeling of walking into a nighttime setting even though the sky was still light. The distant sound of water falling over the edge of the sky island reached into the temple and gave it a serenity that Lumina most loved. Even now she was moving about the hall preparing it for the flocks of faithful who would come to worship once the moon finally glowed deeply in the sky.

Lumina rubbed her hands together against the chill of autumn. She would have to make the heat the orb gave off a little higher tonight it seemed. Winter was gaining on the land and, though she was loath to admit it, the chill would soon be upon them as snow floated down. Not tonight, she prayed, not tonight. Lumina tied back her long brown hair and brushed some dust off the blue dress she had chosen for tonight. A few people wandered in already and Lumina blessed them with a quiet word before they moved to their own private places on the floor to pray.

Lumina walked over to the orb and whispered a quiet word. The heat coming off it increased and Lumina stood for a moment soaking it in before she crossed her arms and made her way to the entrance. She stood looking out over the scenery and up into the night sky. She could see the dots of air ships moving towards the temple but for the moment she could enjoy the night. One day she would have to have an open-sky sanctuary build. Maybe to the east?

She hummed that over as she watched the moon grow in intensity. It would be the last day of the full moon and people would come in great numbers before the waning. She wanted to catch a moment along to gather herself for the long night ahead.

Lumina leaned on a pillar and smiled up at the sky.

((ooc: crap post is crap. x.x ))

---

Maksimilian had returned to his home for a week, deciding it best that he take a break from the academy. As far as he was concerned, his kingdom needed him more than that school did. His obligation to the throne and his future leadership was far more important, and his display of loyalty was hopefully something his people would take to heart. Instead of running straight back to the palace, Maks decided to visit the Moon Temple. It was rare that he visited it, for it being located in the Azure Province, mostly because of his lack of need to express religion. There were far more important things in life.

Already people had arrived, beating him to the temple, and others were coming up in small airships. A brow perked at the sight of people praying, for even outside the temple he could see them through the open pillars. Maks stopped in his tracks, folding his arms over his chest, cocking his head to the side in amusement. It wasn’t often he got the opportunity to watch others express their beliefs, and since he didn’t do such a thing himself... well, it was interesting, to say the least.

After a few moments of merely standing there as the quiet observer, Maksimilian made his way closer, noticing the priestess leaning against one of the various pillars the temple possessed. His path immediately turned to her and he dropped his arms, hands finding his pockets as he looked directly at her. Once he was nearer, he turned his gaze from her, allowing his dark eyes to scan over the visage of what must have been her pride and joy.

“So this is all yours, neh?” he inquired. Technically, it belonged to him, what with it being in his land... but he would grant her the pride of having it be hers, even if only such a right was granted for just the moment. “I’d say this is an interesting thing you’ve got going here, but then again I wouldn’t say I’m well versed in religion...” he mused, and a smirk played at his lips. “You’re not going to make me pray, are you, oh High and Mighty Priestess?”

Lumina’s eye slid over to the prince that had come to stand next to her. And here she was hoping for a minute or two alone. Oh well. She dipped her head ever so slightly, he would still be king, but it fell short of the usual respect royalty demanded. Her first and foremost loyalty would always be to the Goddess. Her eyes moved back over to the outside of the island and the ships moving in and she listened as the prince spoke.

She spread her arms in a pious act. “I cannot claim to own the temple of the Goddess. It is hers and hers alone, I am merely the keeper who will watch over it until the day she returns to our earth.” Lumina tried to put a little smugness into her voice. “I’m not surprised.” She remarked to him lacking on his religious studies.

Her large eyes moved back to him and she raised an eyebrow. She scanned over the boy, everything about him was haughty and arrogant. The kingdom might be dark indeed the day he took over the throne.

“I am not a prince or king to demand my subjects kneel.” She stared at him for a moment. “These people come here because they choose to. Not because it was chosen for them. So no I will not make you pray oh High and Mighty Prince.”

Maksimilian felt his nose wrinkle when she only dipped her head. Who did she think she was, to spare him such minimal respect or regard? He was the crowned prince; once he became king, he would be higher than the gods she worshipped so frivolously, if indeed they existed. Everyone would tremble once he took the throne of the Azure Province, whether mortal or immortal, and those who did not obey him would suffer. He hoped this woman would come to understand that.

“And what if she never returns, what will you do then?” Maks responded, his eyebrows lifting. “You may very well die before she even thinks about coming back to the earth, if she exists.” He shrugged, as if he wasn’t trying to start some sort of argument when he really was. It was so interesting, how some of these peasants lived.

Anger flashed in his brown eyes at her tone and her words. “What’s that supposed to mean, woman?” he asked, narrowing his dark eyes and scanning the length of her figure. What a disrespectful wench... maybe he would have to deal with her, when the time came.

Ha, disrespectful and spirited, what a wretched combination. “I am high and mighty, thank you, and it might do you well to remember that, woman,” he snapped. “In case you’ve forgotten, you’re below me in social rank; I’d watch that pretty tongue you’ve got if you plan on keeping it.” Maks offered a condescending smile. “At least you know you can’t make me pray. I’m just interested in seeing how people actually do it.”

Lumina gave him a knowing smirk. “She will return.” Lumina’s eyes lit up with a knowing light and her trust and faith would make her believe she would even if someone had proof she would not. Which no one did. Lumina was as close to the goddess’ avatar as anyone would get and she knew, deep in her soul that one day Lysithea would come to see the temple for herself. “Your unwavering faith is inspiring.”

Lumina crossed her arms and stared at him. “It means that you have no love but for yourself, prince.” She pulled herself up a little straighter, and it added to her height. Even though he was taller than her Lumina still managed to look down on the prince.

Lumina fought down laughter when he spoke of high and mighty and social status. She didn’t fully succeed and a small giggle escaped her lips before she caught the rest and choked it down. She looked at Maks and lowered her lashes, batting them flirtatiously. “Why how flattered am I , a mere peasant to be so called ‘pretty’ by my prince. Shall I fall to my knees now my lord? Or do you prefer the view of my chest from here?”

Lumina moved her eyes away from the prince and glanced inside the temple. “Anyway they see fit. Some bring offerings of gold or scents, their finest crop or something they have made. Others like to prick themselves and offer a drop to the blood bowl. It is the month of the blood moon after all and it has filled up nicely.” She smiled at him and waved her arm inside the building.

“You may look around if you like but be wary people may not be bowing to you.”

Oh, blah. Wasn’t that what everyone said, only for it to not be true? “Don’t get your hopes up, lady,” Maks warned. “Lifted hopes are the ones that are crushed the hardest.” Lifting a hand, Maksimilian wriggled his index finger in her face, chastising her for being so foolish. “It’s better to be realistic than get involved in fantasies, you know. Tsk, tsk, did your mother teach you nothing?” Maks, of course, was in no position to ask something like that, considering his mother had died when he was but a child. Perhaps the lack of a woman’s gentleness had been a contributing factor to his rough personality.

What was it with people disregarding his status? First Christiana, although he had taught her a lesson, and next this woman. “Watch your mouth...” he snarled, lips peeling back to reveal his pearly whites. “As long as you live in the Azure Province, you are under my leadership and you’d best treat it as such. I don’t care how faithful to your goddess you intend to be, but here in the real world I’m the most powerful. Got it?”

It didn’t take long before he decided he thoroughly disliked her.

“You should be flattered, woman,” Maks replied swiftly. At the mention of her bosom, Maksimilian’s eyes traveled somewhat lower from her face and he smirked, chuckling lowly to himself. “Oh I’m sorry - was I not supposed to look? You’re dressed like a common whore, if you don’t want to be ogled like one maybe you should dress in more clothes. Easy fix, isn’t it?” Maks grinned, eyes returning to lock with her own.

“That’s disgusting,” he near choked. “Sacrificing blood, are they mad? Do they actually think something will happen with it? What, does your goddess come down from the heavens to grace your little island and drink it?” He laughed openly, not hiding it back.

“I’m not concerned with them bowing to me,” Maks said quickly. “So long as they don’t disrespect me such as one of my own subjects has.”

“Or they are celebrated the loudest. Just because you have hollowed out your heart and filled it with stone because of your childhood dreams being crushed does mean everyone else will Maksimillian,” Lumina raised an eyebrow and looked at Maks. “So sad you had no mother to teach you in belief.”

I’m the most powerful. Got it?”

“Right under the King, right Prince?” Oh but wasn’t Azure just doomed when he took the throne. Somewhere in Lumina’s mind a little person screamed at her to stop, that she was only throwing herself into a pit, that Maks would always remember this day and come back for her. But she drowned out the voice. She would not be put down like the dog Maks thought the people were. She shook her head slightly, a mourning gesture for the people when Maks took the throne. Hopefully some woman would tame him before that day came.

“About as easy as pretending to be an all-powerful ruler I would say,” She stared at him for a long moment before she walked briskly into the temple. A few people reached out to her and touched the hem of her skirt. She whispered a brief word and made the sign of the moon over them before moving on. Finally she reached a pure white bowl.

“Something like that.” Lumina picked up a medium sized knife with an extremely sharp cutting edge. She placed the cutting edge in her hand and folded her fingers around it before she drew it across in one swift motion. She placed the knife back and held her hand over the bowl, filling it up with her blood.

“I am not you subject yet,” Lumina whispered. In a slightly stronger voice she turned and addressed the prince. “This is why I know she is real. She is with me every moment, and loves all her subjects,” Lumina held out her hand to Maks, palm up, and let him watch as the slash knit neatly back together. Not even a scar remained. Then she reached over and picked up the bowl. “Watch,” She whispered and looked into the bowl filled with her own blood. Slowly the level started going down until the last drop had disappeared. “Anything people can give, She will take.”

Where was she even getting these accusations? Childhood dreams crushed? What could she possibly speak of? He was a crowned prince; everything he desired, he attained. There was nothing he could have wanted for, nothing that he’d ever truly wanted that had not somehow come to be in his possession...

But then she mentioned his mother.

“Shut your damn mouth,” he growled, each word sounding in the back of his throat. His mother had died, that was the end of the story. He had grown up without her, and clearly he hadn’t needed her since he had come this far. A mother wasn’t a necessary factor in a child’s life. End of story. “And watch what you say about the late queen of this kingdom.”

Rolling his upper lip into his mouth, Maksimilian simply listened to her retort, absorbing it and allowing it to sink deep into the recesses of his memory. This woman was not one to be forgotten - as soon as he took the throne she would have to be dealt with properly, lest she conspire some treacherous plot against him. “Not for long,” he assured her, lifting his right index finger and wriggling it threateningly. “I’ll be king soon enough and then my word will be law... and you’ll just have to deal with that, now won’t you?”

This woman truly had no idea how to hold her tongue, did she? Maks was flabbergasted; how could this priestess think so highly of herself not to bow down to him, the prince, the soon to be ruler of this country? “You fail to realize that I will be all powerful,” he said dryly, narrowing his eyes as he followed her into the temple.

“You became my subject as soon as I was born,” Maks spat. “I’m part of the royal family - what don’t you understand about this?” Exasperated, Maks sighed, rolling his dark eyes.

The wound on her hand stitched back together, causing Maks’ eyebrows to furrow. Then the blood in the bowl disappeared, sucked away as if it had never existed to begin with. For a few moments the prince was speechless, until he was able to utter a few words with a snort. “Nice magic trick, woman. Where’d you learn that one?”

“I would watch what I say if I were the prince. It is still treasonous to even speak of the death of the King,” Again she gave Maks a measured stare. “To your own advantage.” Lumina smiled at him and lowered her eyes. “Forgive me oh great one! For I have truly sinned in believing a mere mortal cannot obtain the powers of a god… Oh wait…” Lumina raised her eyes and stared at him. “You can’t.”

“As soon as your king please come into my temple and show me how you are all powerful. Bring the rains from the heavens! Create a feast out of thin air! Strike me down with your heavenly fury!” Lumina smirked at him. “You cannot do it now and you won’t be able to if you take the throne. The true king would be wise to see what his son truly is and dispose of him before he drives Azure into the ground. Quite a feat to accomplish with a floating province, but somehow I can see you managing to do it quite easily.”

She turned away from him for a moment when a girl came up and touched the hem of her dress. Lumina leaned down and touched the woman’s head and whispered a blessing before her eyes moved back to Maks.

“Where’d you learn that one?”

“My mother,” Lumina smiled. “Mothers are wonderful for so many things.” Her eyes took on a look of pity. “How sad,” She didn’t elaborate but turned her eyes from him and looked out over the gathered people. The night had darkened and the temple was buzzing with whispered prayers and blessings.

“One day Maksimilian,” Lumina left out his title, “You will realize that kings do very little for the people.”

Treason? Treason? It was treason now to be excited to take the throne, or to even speak the truth about the health of his father? As soon as Maks was old enough, or as soon as the man died, he would be king - whichever event came first. He and Christiana would be wed and the kingdom would be faced with two new leaders. “You’re the one committing treason here, my dear. Mocking your prince... do you think I forget things easily?”

Maks’ fists clench, and as if he hadn’t had enough provocation before, he finally had reason to seal her fate. Driving the Azure Province into the ground, having his father dispose of him... did she even realize what she was saying? A deep laugh erupted from his throat and his eyes glared daggers at her. Lumina had just sealed her fate; Maks knew exactly what he was to do with her. “Oh trust me, Priestess,” he hissed. “I’ll come back once I am king... and you’ll see the true strength of my power at that time. And you’ll have no one to blame for your destiny but yourself.”

At the mention of her mother, Maks began to grind his teeth. Something worse than death, that was what this woman deserved. To jeer at him and act innocent, to assume he would ruin this kingdom - he would do a better job than his father was doing, that much was certain. Nothing would happen to this kingdom so long as he ruled it. “I may have grown up without a mother,” he hissed, “but that does not make me an invalid. I can assure you my children won’t go without a mother or a father, now isn’t that such a great relief to you?”

Again he laughed, but it was soft, although that did nothing to make it weaker. “Kings do nothing but decide how the people live, kings do nothing but rule their lives - if that’s what you meant by ‘very little’ then I suppose I’m inclined to agree with you.”

“Why I wouldn’t be surprised if things just sort of … fell out of your head. It seems you’ve forgotten your manners easily enough.” Lumina crossed her arms and looked out over the gathered people, drinking them all in. How sad they would one day be faced with Maks.

Lumina held her chin high and turned her head to Maks. “You will find your power means little compared to mine. You send away a people’s hope and you get revolt and death and suffering. I am that hope. And if you decide the wrong fate for me then your people will lose all hope and faith in you and we will all watch Azure crumble.” Her eyes burned. “Choose wisely.”

“It would be a greater a relief to me to know that you will never spawn because it seems as though you can never love. Besides one of you in the world is enough.” Lumina thought about it for a minute before she shook her head and whispered. “Your poor wife,”

Lumina smiled wickedly at Maks, “So Kings and Slavers are no different after all. The people will be so relieved to know they were right all along.”

“I’m not the only one who’s forgotten my manners,” Maks mumbled, eyeing her with disdain. “For as great as you say your mother was, it seems she never taught you how to address your superiors.” Satisfied with himself, Maks grunted softly, averting his gaze from her.

But then her threat came, forcing Maksimilian to stare at her, eyes burning with hatred and malice. So she really thought she was more powerful than him. That would be put an end to as soon as he was king... and if the people so much as thought about rallying against him he would just have to crush them. Fear was the best method of control. “You should choose your words wisely...” he hissed venomously, the words falling off his tongue as if he were a snake. “You’re not as important as you think, woman. The people will rejoice when they hear I rid them of the danger you pose to them.”

Biting his lower lip, Maks really, honestly, had no idea what he was supposed to say. All he knew was that he wanted this woman to suffer. He wanted her to suffer, he wanted her to mourn, he wanted her to panic - he wanted her dead, rotted from the inside out. “I wonder if you would be so venerated by your people if they ever saw this side of you.”

He couldn’t wait until the day he became king; Lumina would be the first matter he addressed. “Call me a slaver again, see what happens, wench,” he barked. “You’re digging your own grave, woman. Would you care to stop while you’re ahead?”
