Christiana chose to ignore everything he said about sickness. She was quite confused by now, anyway. Besides, she barely had a chance to speak before he was stalking over to her and glaring down at her, which was really very imposing. He was a great deal taller and larger than her. Over a foot taller, she guessed. Still she tried to look undaunted. "Are you sure? I would think that's not at all princely...being able to carry me like a sack of anything, I mean." Christiana said sweetly. "And I wouldn't want you to get hurt trying. That would be perfectly horrible." Guilt was beginning to creep in. She was being so very mean. But she couldn't help it. He was so very infuriating. |

All right. This was officially a challenge. Without so much as a word to warn her, Maksimilian bent his knees somewhat, scooping one arm behind her knees and the other around her waist. In one smooth, fluid motion he heaved her up head-first over his right shoulder, bending his neck and maneuvering his arms so that he was comfortable. One arm stayed on the small of her back on top of his shoulder and the other moved to hold her behind the knees, not only to secure her but to ensure she wouldn’t kick him. He couldn’t do anything about her arms punching him, unfortunately. “Hm, I think we should go for a walk,” Maks mused, setting off at a pace that was probably not going to be gentle for the woman bent over his shoulder. “As future husband and wife, I mean, we ought to get to know each other better, now shouldn’t we? We should do something... fun.” Though she couldn’t see his eyes, the fact that he had just gotten a dark idea was probably more than obvious just by the way he said the last word. Within moments Maks came upon a pond, deep enough to throw her in without hurting her but small enough that getting caught wouldn’t be an issue. “Why, now look at this, Goldilocks!” he gasped, feigning surprise. “I found a pond! Hehe... would you like to go swimming? the weather’s nice enough for it, I do believe...” But without waiting for an answer, Maks tossed her into the water like a rag-doll, smirking in utter satisfaction. As the Prince scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder, Christiana felt smaller than she ever had in her whole life. She was so busy feeling uncomfortable by the way he was holding her that it didn't occur to her that she could be hitting him. Even if it had occurred to her to do so, she probably wouldn't have. She wasn't the sort to resort to violence at any cost. "Don't you dare!" She shrieked at him, clutching at the fabric of his shirt. "Don't you dare throw me in!" But of course he paid no attention to her and he threw her in anyway. Her nose and mouth filled with water and she floundered around, trying to push herself above the water line, but her heavy dress held her under. She finally made it above water and drew in a huge breath. |

He could only grin at her futile efforts to keep herself from being thrown in. “Awww, Goldilocks is holding onto me, should I be honored?” He snickered, and as she flailed about in the water merely watched. It was sick, twisted, and sadistic - but that was a good portion of Maks’ personality anyway. It gave him a deep contentment to know he could make her suffer like this, to watch her barely make it to the surface because of the heavy dress weighing her down. “I really do not understand why you women insist on wearing such dangerous clothes,” he admonished. “Look at you, you’re gasping like a fish pulled out of the water. What, did I almost drown you, lady?” At this revelation, his features hardened. “You better toughen up if you ever want to rule with me, or any kingdom for that matter... you won’t have someone around to save your sorry, worthless behind every time.” He put his boot into the water and kicked some at her with his toe. “Now get up and get out of there, you’re soaked and you look absolutely stupid.” |

Tears began rolling down Christiana's cheeks. She really just couldn't take it any more. It would have been all right if it was just some random bully, but it was her future husband. She gathered up her skirt with one arm and pushed at the water with the other until she could throw herself up on the bank. Somehow she managed to stand and she marched over to him, though her knees were trembling, and she pulled herself up to her full height, which was a great, great deal smaller than him. "You are a horrible, horrible man!" Christiana said, in as angry a tone as she possibly could, considering her disposition and the fact that she was crying. "And I don't like you!" She wrapped her arms around herself, but whether it was to ward off the cold or him was unknown. |

... He’d made her cry? For just a moment Maksimilian felt something that could only be described as numbness, but it quickly melted away into something akin to deep, profound, smug satisfaction. There was nothing more rewarding than this. Weakening others, making them appear so vulnerable before him - if he could do it with individual people, he was going to be a force to be reckoned with as a ruler. Maks pitied anyone or any kingdom that decided to somehow wrong him. As she walked toward him, Maksimilian looked at her with only cool indifference, allowing her to see his smirk. There was no point in attempting to hide it, not now. “Oh, I’m horrible, am I?” he reiterated, leaning over her a bit in the hopes of making her feel trapped. “I think I could get used to you saying that, especially if you’re going to cry every time. Sure, it may become repetitive after a while, but for now it’s amusing... the fact that I can beat you up this easily is absolutely thrilling...” He chuckled, bouncing back on his heels. “Maybe I could get used to you, if you’re this predictable and I can get you to react like this.” Lifting his hand suddenly, Maks cupped her chin roughly, forcing her to look at him. “You may not like me, but you’ve got me intrigued, Little Lady. So I guess you’re going to have to get used to your cruel fate.” |

Christiana felt trapped. Not just by his nearness, but by everything. She couldn't marry him. She just couldn't. She couldn't spend her life being taunted and abused by him. Yet how was she to get out of it? She was scared, honestly scared. But she was determined to not let it show; she wouldn't... Her thoughts were cut off as he cupped her chin, and her gaze returned to his face. It was such a lie, his face. It was a handsome mask for an ugly inside. And that was terrifying, too. Everything about him was, she thought. "You're hurting me. Please, stop." Christiana pleaded, her hand going to his arm in a feeble attempt to push him away. |

She was doing a very good job at hiding her fear, he would give her that - but fear was one of those strange emotions that a person could feel. It was tangible, real, instinctual, and Maks could feel her fear tingling up his spine and leaving a soft, feathery feeling in his stomach. The smirk only widened, but considering how much effort she was putting forth, he wouldn’t call her out. Not yet. Her pretty eyes focused on him then, and at long last his pearly whites showed in an expression that was absolutely condescending. “Hurting you?” Maksimilian squeezed tighter for a moment, wanting to make sure his fingerprints would last. It didn’t matter if he left bruises - he actually didn’t want to go that far - but as long as the ache was there, then that was okay. “How awful of me, how downright wicked. You dainty thing, being abused by your predetermined lover... it’s almost tragic.” He laughed, but before he relinquished his hold on her, he used his thumb to wipe away a single tear, still mocking her with feigned care. He finally allowed his hand to fall back to his side. “It’s not what either of us want, Doll Face. But at least I’m trying, which is more than can be said for you. I absolutely intend on making the best of our ordeal, and you’d best do so too. And you’d best learn quickly what makes me angry, so you don’t have to face my wrath again...” |

His fingers dug deeper into her skin, and Christiana had to bit the inside of her lip to keep from crying out. She couldn't give him the satisfaction -- wouldn't give him the satisfaction. But even as he created a feeling of fear within her, he gave her hope. Surely her parents could not hold her to an engagement in which she'd be abused constantly. This thought made her tilt her chin upward defiantly. "I'm not afraid of you," She told him, her voice gentle as always. "I pity you. I pity you that you will never know how it feels to love or be loved in return." She half expected him to strike out and hit her and she flinched involuntarily. But at the same time, she pulled from his grasp and turned to leave. |

Even after all he had done, she still wasn’t afraid. It was so obvious though! He could tell he had gotten to her, after all, tears had cascaded down her cheeks and it had all been his doing. He had gotten her to cry, show weakness, vulnerability... wasn’t that the epitome of some sort of fear? “You never make any sense, woman,” he sighed. But the mention of pity? The anger returned, boiling into white fury inside of him. Maks stared at her, eyes wide and hands balling into fists. Even now, she dared to turn her back on him! “Pity me?” he repeated, half growing and half genuinely shocked. “You pity me?! Love is not a necessity of life, you idiotic idealist. A person doesn’t need love to survive. This is the real world, not whatever fantasies filled your head as a child.” Maks reached out and grabbed her arm, yanking her back against his chest. “You don’t need to be in love to be wed,” he whispered against her ear. “You belong to me, and I hope you know that. Whether I like you or not, whether I love you or not, it doesn’t matter. You’re mine, that much was promised to me, and if you think I’m going to let you turn your back on me just because it doesn’t suit your fancy then you’re wrong. Turning your back on your soon-to-be King... think about it before you go through with it, think about the repercussions.” He released her finally and stood straightly, pulling away from her entirely. |

Christiana would have ignored him. Maybe she was an idealist, maybe she was foolish. Maybe love didn't matter. But she didn't care. It mattered to her and she knew she couldn't go through life with someone she disliked so much, someone she simply didn't love, someone she hated. But she couldn't ignore him; he grabbed her arm roughly and pulled her to him, much to closely for comfort. "I am not your possession!" She cried weakly, feeling like she couldn't fight any more. She wasn't used to it, after all, and she didn't like it one bit. "I...I..." her mouth worked, but words quite coming out. What was she to do? She didn't doubt that he would do something to hurt her or her family. He let go of her finally, and Christiana hugged her arms to herself, as though they would protect her from him. She was convinced that nothing could protect her from him. "You can't control me." She said softly, though she knew he could. He was bigger, stronger, more powerful than she. Christiana could do nothing against him. |

“But aren’t you?” Maksimilian shot back, his tone smooth and deep. Christiana Paschal was his. His, his, his - no one else’s. No one else would ever have her, so long as she lived. In all honesty, Maks was only partly doing it out of amusement, by the fact that he found her interesting. The larger part of his soul knew that, in keeping her with him, she would be miserable. And there was nothing more delicious than knowing he could create such sorrow within another, shatter their ideals and break their hearts. He took a step back. Although this had been frustrating at first, Maks really believed this had been better than training. Far more rewarding, at least. “Think what you like, dear,” he said in an almost sing-song tone. “Anything you like to help you sleep at night. When will we get to see each other again? I do hope it will be soon.” |

Christiana wondered if he would let her leave. She so desperately wanted to, yet she was afraid that if she did, he would yank her back to him. She'd hated the feeling of her body pressed against his, the feel of his breath against her skin, and she didn't want to experience again, not if she didn't have to. She ran her hand up and down her arm, already knowing that ugly bruises were forming where he'd grabbed her. "Never, if I have anything to say about it," She whispered. She couldn't make her voice come out any louder and she couldn't make her eyes look at him. "Just leave me alone...please." Why she thought that asking him that would do any good, wouldn't make things worse, she didn't know. But she felt so helpless, she had to do something, and that was all she knew to do. She turned to leave, praying that he would just let her go. |

“Aw, that hurts, Goldie,” Maksimilian pouted. This situation was all too delicious - she was stuck in something that she couldn’t get out of, something that he wouldn’t allow her to get out of. “You never want to see your future husband ever again? I have to say, that really stings. Ouchies.” He couldn’t stop himself; laughter poured out from his lips, thick and acidic in its tone and deliverance. Maks stepped back at her request, but the malevolence in his eyes never wavered. “Go ahead and leave, Christiana,” he allowed, saying her name as if he planned on somehow using it against her. “But you can’t be alone forever. You’re going to need someone to keep you company, won’t you? I wouldn’t want my lovely little wife to be lonely...” |

His laughter grated at her and made her want to cover her ears or run away, but Christiana did neither. She did, however, stop walking and listened until he'd finished speaking. When she did speak, her words were as gentle as they ever were. "I'd be lonelier with you than without you." It was the strangest feeling that he gave her, really. She was afraid of what he could do to her, though she wasn't afraid of him. And she didn't like him at all, but she didn't hate him. She pitied him, but she didn't hate him. Mostly, Christiana just wanted him to leave her alone. She started walking back towards the school. |
