It's A Surprise!
|
The winds picked up as four silhouettes were seen slipping beneath the shadowy cover of the main gate. The cold bite of the mountain winds attacked whatever flesh showed beneath their heavy clothing as they crept. Large boxes were strapped to their backs and were being carried either by physical strength or magic. The smallest of the group followed behind, covering their prints in the snow. The clouds were getting darker overhead, and the wind-chill was frigid, even for a night in the mountains. By morning, it was obvious that the winds would be practically intolerable. This high in altitude, the storm was going to be a strong one. It was going to be a very cold next few days for all. “Is this all the last of the rope, harnesses, and blankets?” a female voice whispered through the silence, glancing from side to side as she searched for the animal trail that would lead her to the caves. “Yes, it’s all we’ve found in the storage area,” a soft male voice whispered. Following behind the woman, he was by far the largest of the group of renegades. Behind them, the small faery woman looked at their trail and with a wave of her hand, the snow upon the ground tossed and turned, masking their getaway completely. “Let’s get to the mountain caves and keep only what we need, and burn the rest. They’ll learn their lesson,” she whispered as she raced upwards. Judging by the clouds overhead, they had a day, maybe two, before the storm hit. It wasn’t going to be a lovely one. |
